Post by: Reuben on May 10, 2019, 08:01:10 am My choice would be the Kabar USMC survival knife...before 4 wheelers I could trim and cut a 2” sapling and tie a hog to it and we could walk it out of the woods...and not have to sharpen the blade for a long while...it has a carbon steel blade so it needs to be cleaned of blood and oiled...it gives me great satisfaction knowing I take good care of this knife... I oil the sheath once in a while as well...and old retired hog Dogger built the sheath for me years ago...I still use the same one...the knife is of the perfect size...I’ve given quite a few of them as gifts...the only thing I don’t like about it is that the backbone of the knife is too thick for slicing a ham...but if I could only have one knife this one is it...

I took a grinding wheel and then a knife sharpener and gave it a dual edge for the first 2” past the tip. It works really well. Normally I carry a Schrade F21 survival knife. It’s my favorite. Very small and compact, very sharp with a needle point. My only complaint is that it can be a little small for killing a big boar with a thick shield.

So I just started carrying Excalibur but I be dammed if ol Guinevere kept showing up. So I found my self at Walmart getting a Winchester Bowie for 23 bucks

My only complaints are that it sits a little high when wearing it, and on big pigs it can be a little too short and take longer to kill them. I like not having a huge knife flopping around slapping my leg though. I think this one has a 5.5” blade.

For pure functionality at a lower cost due to me being extremely hard on them and losing them I have not found any knife I like better than the Cold Steel OSS. Post by: Mike on May 15, 2019, 07:51:52 pm I’m with Rednose... I love the OSS. I’ve stuck them, gutted them, skinned them and barred them with it... even use it as a machete sometimes haha. I have a bad habit of laying mine down in the woods... I think I’m on my fourth one.
