Title: High fence hunt... Post by: Mike on September 18, 2019, 07:08:33 pm I had a fella contact us a while back that did depredation work using thermals. There was 5 hogs in this high fence that he had been after for a couple of months and only killed one. The few times they were able to see the hogs, all the deer and exotics would blow and run them off.
The first time I went out, I hunted until 2:30 the day before in 100 degree heat... dang dogs could barely walk. I figured what the heck, these hogs have been fenced all their lives and never seen a dog before... oughta bay right up. Boy was I wrong... first bark and off to the races. After getting smoked, I told them I’d come back when the dogs are fresh... the following week he was able to shoot one more hog. The second time out we killed two sows. Four of the five were barren sows, the last hog was a boar... we assumed he was sterile because they have been under high fence for 4 years. Saturday morning we went after the last hog. We put Riley, the landowner and his son on a right of way about 40 yards to shoot the hog if he crossed. Dogs found him pretty quick, two barks and off to the races. They put over 5 miles on him in 200 acres... round and round and round. He finally got the four dogs scattered out and slipped out in front of the shooters way ahead of the dogs... the lead went to flying hahaha! It was a fun hunt and a happy landowner. Post by: t-dog on September 18, 2019, 07:38:20 pm Man those hogs had the gear to run for sure. Glad you caught those track stars. When they grow up and live day in and day out in the same 200 acres, they have the upper hand. I think.it might actually be harder in those places. So cuddos to you and the dogs!

I've had hogs I've run that I wished someone would shoot them. lol Rbz boys and I have hunted in a foxpen and it is fun hunting, especially during Turkey season or Deer season when finding places to hunt are hard to come by.

Post by: Slim9797 on September 23, 2019, 11:49:13 am I got a big Barr hog In our highfence place down In beeville. He's a ghost. 8 months I’ve known about him and can’t pattern him well enough to try with dogs. 2 other times I’ve hunted high fences it’s been a dang nightmare.

Most the time it’s about 4-5 race if they do bay. People that don’t hunt them assume it’s easy or cheating but I can assure you the high fences I hunt are anything but easy lol

Post by: Goose87 on September 24, 2019, 04:51:13 am At one time there was 19 high fence operations in pearl river county alone, and nearly that many in Marion county, I’m 5 minutes west of PR county and 10 min south of Marion county, I’ve hunted them countless times and have had my butt kicked countless times until after a time or two and I can start patterning their routes and actions, nowhere near as easy as shooting fish in a barrel lol
