Title: Purty fair hunt Post by: t-dog on January 25, 2022, 03:17:06 pm Me and the oldest boy got a chance to make a run this morning. Turned my pair of pups out first to give them a chance. It’s a honey hole and easy as it gets when the hogs are there. They located pretty quick and then the hog or hogs broke. Gave them a little bit to put it back up and after they didn’t in a few minutes I sent the older dogs. They found it and it broke and tried to cross open ground to get to the creek. That didn’t work out too well for her. They stretched her, we stuck her, and the older dogs rolled over. Tex located again then it got quiet. These hogs only stay put if you make them. The pups had gone to him before he got quiet. All the dogs were spread out combing the woods and Outlaws (one of my pups) located. He was bayed for about a minute before everyone else got there. We stuck that one and loaded the dogs. Went to another spot and dumped again. This time the hogs scattered when the dogs found them. They of course went to killing pigs everywhere. Finally Sam and Ranger(my other puppy) showed bayed 800+ yards from us. We get there and they are baying a toad! Sent Loki and the hog gave him an aerial view of things. They ran about 100 yards if that and Loki was eared up. We came around the corner and there was another hog about 200 pounds standing within 2’ of the caught hog. I threw the caught hog and the other moved and got out on an island. We stuck the hog and sent Loki to the other dogs that were baying the 2nd hog. About the time him hit the water the hog hauled butt back to land and left like he stole something. We get over where they were working and Ranger and Shaymus caught another pig and Outlaw bayed again. Dogs head to him and it breaks before they get there. They all got together and would bay a second then it would break. They finally left and went down the creek .8 then doubled back. I guess they got brushed off on a group. Of course there were pigs crawling around like roaches. They killed a truck bed full of them I think. The big hog turn out to be a Barr. He weighed 310 on the scale.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220125/4eb5c2800c5c8688659513de2326f6b4.jpg)

Title: Re: Purty fair hunt Post by: HIGHWATER KENNELS on January 25, 2022, 05:31:03 pm Man that’s a fine hunt. You wasn’t bored that’s for sure. Fine set to have some pups on too. Won’t take too many of them to finish off the pups and they won’t be pups no more. Fine Barr too man

My boy is going to get him mounted. The taxidermist told him earlier that this hog was about ten inches bigger around the neck than the average hog this weight. I don’t how true that is but he for sure was round. I love watching young dogs when things start clicking. I went to this spot on purpose. I figured they had just enough idea about what we were doing to maybe find something on their own. They are still not rolling over real fast but it’s getting better. Outlaw bayed solo 3 different times today for a good bit before anything else got to him. Ranger was always busy and trying to find his own too. He just had older dogs looking for the same hog and beating him to it lol. We hunt the Milam, Burleson, and Lee county area.

When he saw that second good hog standing there and it was swatting at dogs he was like dad there’s another good hog right beside him. Dad went in and caught and threw ole big boy, lol. If y’all knew this boy of mine it would’ve surprised you. He has always been fearless to a fault. It was funny to me.

Title: Re: Purty fair hunt Post by: Shotgun66 on January 26, 2022, 06:50:14 am Heck of a day in the woods. Hard to beat catchin a trophy hog with your son and dogs you bred, raised, & trained. Happy for you man.
- I don’t blame Jr for “assessing the situation “. He was just testing Ol Dad to make sure you are still game! Title: Re: Purty fair hunt Post by: Shotgun66 on January 26, 2022, 06:57:25 am Outlaw pup sounds like a nice young dog. I appreciate independence and he seems to have it at a young age.
- Loki being able to gather up and get caught after getting tossed is impressive as well. I know we all want them to connect on the first shot but if a dog can keep his head in the game the bay dogs, or the hog, will give em another shot within a “reasonable distance” a lot of times. I don’t know which of these two pups I like better. They both have qualities that I really like. The difference in them is very minimal. I think I’m gonna start a line if they work out and call them Bayou Cajun Collies. They look like slick collies and sound like plott hounds lol.

Title: Re: Purty fair hunt Post by: l.h.cracker on January 26, 2022, 08:32:02 pm Yessir T-dog that was a heck of hunt and a dang stud of a barr hog.I have a empty chain down here for ol Outlaw if you ever get tired of chasing him from hog to hog Bubba lol.
Title: Re: Purty fair hunt Post by: t-dog on January 26, 2022, 10:15:11 pm Lol this youngest boy of mine might be ready to fight if I got rid of ole outlaw. He spent a good bit of time with him hiding weenies from him around the yard and making him sit and all. He’s supposed to find hogs around here. I know he’s inexperienced but the hog numbers are ridiculous around here. It’s good to get the seed planted in their young brains but if you aren’t really careful they will get spoiled.
