the area i grew up and hunted in TN everybody has always bayed and shot them or shot them crossing the road even myself it was the way i was raised from a kid but a couple of us got started using a catch dog so we could turn them loose but the rest of the hunters excuse is a catch dog will make your hounds catch as well we catch quiet a few hogs and have the best luck with two or 3 hounds and a catch dog not the country we hunt is big steep terrain with very few roads and some times have to walk a mile into a bay
4  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / bull dogs making hounds to gritty? on: May 05, 2013, 09:25:43 pm
where i hunt very few people use a catch dog because they say it makes their hounds to gritty i have only been using a catch dog a little over a year now but have hunted hounds my whole life     I have found if a hound is catchy or gritty they are going to be bull dog or not  lets hear opinons

our small group is the only group in TN that catches them we figure every hog you tie and turn loose is another one left to run heck we dont have to kill them and rid them around on our dog box for them to count we still kill a few good boar hog but have been cutting them turning them loose as well hopefully in a few years we can catch some of them 400 plus pound barr hogs like i see on here
19  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Need advice please! on: March 07, 2013, 03:48:10 pm
Jay Waltz is a really respected plott man in wisconsin he told me one he didnt really start them on bear till they was 15 months old and did not want them on a mean bear till they was atleast to if she acts good and gamey just give her time you never know when she will flip a switch just my opinion
20  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Tennessee boys learning new ways of hunting on: March 07, 2013, 03:42:05 pm
to me there is alot more sport in it them shooting them only time i shoot one now is if i hunt alone and bay a tush hog i dont take a bulldog when i hunt by myself but will still catch and tie one if my hounds can hold it
