Not for a dang hog dog. Hogs are caught in the brush I don't even like a big bull dog they can't move good enough when the dogs are big.

you gotta remember though, brush for me a may not be the same as brush for you......Texas terrain varies GREATLY, what works here (south east Texas) may not work great in West or South Texas and vice versa......its all about your individual needs

Ok I work with personal protection K9's but I frequently talk to hog hunters. Some of the same breeds are used in both faucets. I have a 105lb corso x pit that can move very well. I know two very well known breeders who breed dogs for both purposes. These dogs are around 140lbs. Now I'm not arguing or debating anything with you I'm just curious as to your thoughts you guys are the hog hunters I'm just hoping I can learn a little here and find what I'm after. I help run a facebook group called american bandogge mastiff and from time to time we go over hog stuff. I know this is what the dane was bred for and what about the dogo them are some big catch dogs right. Now I also understand that people hog hunt all over the states from Hawaii to Texas to the south to northern California. I know different terrain calls for different dogs but I figure big dog can get in the brush on Texas and the south?

Come to think of it I know a hog huntet with a dane x pit now and that's what many were saying up above.

4  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Working danes on: July 21, 2013, 05:20:14 am
Hello my name is Dustin I live in southern California about 8 miles north of the border. I am an active duty marine and I work with personal protection K9's outside of work. I have been searching for working danes for about a year now. I figure I'll find one in the hog comunity as a catch dog or rcd.  Who uses danes and if so healthy? Or who knows of a dane kennel that breeds for sentry, guard dog, or personal protection work?

What about European danes as most breeds are ruined in the us by the pet comunity and the AKC. I hear most dogs are kept in thier true form over yonder and also judged as such in a kennel club. Anyone import them from a great kennel for hog work? Also I hear there is a European breed called the boardog which is a recreated dane bred for true form. Anyone have any knowledge on this?

I've basically just come up empty handed in the last year. A dog that was bred for boar where the F*** are the good ones. Big ole tall lap dogs.

I dual posted this for discussion too

If you can't find a pure Dane that hunts well why would you want to cross it ?

This i agree with. I too think the pit x dane is amazing. Look at the two jaws coming together, head pieces, and builds. But i would only cross working stock to working stock.
