1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Who is mr.mason on: February 08, 2016, 06:31:29 pm
Thank you young people for the Humbling replys.  I'm just an old fellow that likes helping people and love my dogs because they don't talk back to me.  Will be 74 years old this year and dogs and hogs keep me going.  I have been working dogs for other people and my self for over 56 years and have made a lot of mistakes but if you'll learn from them they weren't as costly as it seemed at the time.
Face book; Douglas Mason or Texas Mason Catahoulas.
Raise Catahoulas and Catdo's here out of Weimar and Black Mouths in Baton Rouge.
Have had the pleasure of sending dogs to Australia, China, New Zealand, and Sweden.  Have some good dogs across the USA also.
Mr. Sam Mason and I have each others dogs and my old stuff goes back to Buster.
Hoping for a few more years that I can keep up with my dogs.  Bless each and every one of you that are true dog men or Ladies, stay true, stand up for what you believe in because so many out there are wanting to take it away from us.  Be respectable obey the law, don't put your dogs out where they aren't supposed to be, treat all others the way you want to be treated.
Thanks again and I do watch and listen a lot just no use to brag on what is what.

Guys, I'm still right here in Texas fighting the fight for dog hunters rights.
Can be reached at anytime at 979-732-7116 or masonda@aol.com

If I was out of the country and asked for money it would be Millions so if they had dogs and hogs I could stay there.

But at my age I will be right here till I pass away and my ashes spred over the dog kennels or hog pen. lol
4  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: A few questions for the more experienced on: July 09, 2015, 08:13:40 am
You buy dogs or you buy a blood line.
Run up to three bay dogs and a lead in catch dog, just what I like, when have friends might get to four or 5 dogs but most times swap out.
Most people don't need pups they need to start with a good started dog because of price and expose to get a better dog.  JMO

We can't be sure that Texas HB 2562, the bill regulating ALL "outdoor
unattended" dogs (not only tethered dogs) is dead until the Texas
legislators leave the Capitol and return home June 1st! Rules can be
suspended to enable legislators to do most anything they wish at the last
minute and bills can be "attached" to similar bills still in the pipeline.
Daily activities must be monitored closely. But our success to date is the
result of a coalition of local, state and national animal organizations
working together to preserve our historic relationship with animals. The
U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance played a major role in our success to date and we
look forward to working together in the future.
We all know the "vegan, anti-hunting, anti-pet ownership vigilantes" will be
back next session, but we'll be ready for them!

Texas Sportsmen Defeat Dog Bill
Posted on May 18, 2015
Texas legislation proposing onerous new requirements on dogs left outdoors
failed to meet a House deadline to receive floor action by midnight
Thursday, May 14 and is now dead.

The legislation, House Bill 2562, sparked intense opposition from sportsmen
and dog owners across Texas.
"Texas sportsmen and dog owners did a great job of rallying opposition to
derail this legislation before it could be snuck through by the animal
rights lobby," said Adam Wright, USSA associate director of state services.
"While this is a great victory, it is important to continue to remain
vigilant and ensure that this proposal isn't added on to another bill as an
amendment at the last minute." The Texas legislature will adjourn for the
session on June 1.

It's Crunch Time At the Texas Legislature.
FORWARD FROM: TEXAS DOG COMMISSION

*HB 234: BAD BILL for Texas Animal Owners
NO to HB 234: Texans' Property Rights in their Animals at Stake:
Ever Been Accused of Something You Didn't Do?

(Bill Makes Appeal Bonds Too Expensive so No Appeals in Animal Seizures) The
Government Does not Always Get it Right. If animals are seized that does not
always mean the owner was cruel. These are property cases and can divest you
of your animals forever.
Hearing, Not a Trial & Not a Jury. In civil animal seizures an owner gets a
hearing before a judge that is oftentimes not even an attorney (JP Courts do
not require judge to be a lawyer).

Hearings are Stacked Against the Owner. The hearing occurs very quickly and
can be the next day after the animals are taken so the owner often does not
have an attorney. He alone facing a county attorney, investigators,
sometimes vets, peace officer who got the warrant, and all of them will
testify against the owner.
Appeal is the ONLY way to get a Trial & Jury. The ONLY way an owner gets a
trial and a jury is if he can appeal the order from the hearing.
Animal Control & Shelters Receiving Seized Animals Do NOT Want Appeals. They
do not want you to have an appeal because justice can be inconvenient and
diminishes their power to take animals.

The Right to an Appeal & Jury Prevents Unbridled Government Power to Seize
Property: The "Fat" Horse Case. For a while in Texas, there were no appeals
and some far reaching seizures took place. A prime example of the abuse that
occurred was the case of the "fat" horse. The alleged "fat" horse was taken
from a man's property with NO notice when he was NOT there, NO seizure
warrant, and because the hearing was a couple of days later, he showed up in
court with NO attorney (could not find one), and faced all these witnesses
against him ALONE scared and embarrassed with NO witnesses for him. The
allegation was he was cruel because his mare was too fat. She was about to
deliver a foal. The owner tried to tell the judge to no avail so he lost his
registered, beautiful Quarter Horse forever.

How to Prevent Appeals: Make them too Expensive. HB 234 tacks on the
Government's attorney fees (unheard of) to appeal bonds so that they will be
too costly and no one can get an appeal.
Appeal Bonds in Seizures: NOT a % of the Bond. The owner has to pay the full
bond to appeal, not a percentage of it like in criminal cases. Murderers can
get a criminal bond easier that an animal owner in a civil property case.
Your Rights are at Stake. Call & Email the Texas Senate and tell them NO to
HB 234!! Make sure any emails state your opposition in the subject title!!

We're in crunch time at our Texas Legislative Session. Deadlines are set
for all bill movement and there is a frenzy among legislators to get their
bills passed.
So time is of the essence for today and tomorrow (Monday and Tuesday).
Bills must be out of Calendars Committee and set for a Floor Vote by Tuesday
we're told or they are officially dead. So if you haven't contacted the
Calendars Committee members below, please do so "for animals' sake!" OPPOSE
BOTH BILLS. Contact all below and your personal House representative who
can be found at www.capitol.state.tx.us with a search box in lower right
corner of home page. You can email your personal representative from their
home page.

PLACE "OPPOSE HB 234 (ANIMAL CRUELTY APPEAL COST) AND HB 2562 (OUTDOOR
DOGS)" IN THE SUBJECT LINE! Copy and paste all below as message:
HB 234 is written to make an appeal of animal cruelty cases even more cost
prohibitive than existing law. Not all animal cruelty cases are meritorious
and are reversed on appeal sometimes.

HB 2562, Care of all Outdoor Dogs in addition to Tethering Regulations:
Being promoted "dishonestly" as a "Tethering Law" when in truth it regulates
ALL outdoor dogs and will outlaw most existing dog houses, etc. This bill
is opposed by the following organizations and their Texas affiliated clubs:
American Kennel Club, United Kennel Club, US Sportsmen's Alliance,
Endangered Breed Association, American Dog Breeders Association, Texas Dog
Commission, Sportsmen's and Animal Owners Voting Alliance, and our
organization Responsible Pet Owners Alliance Texas Outreach. American
Kennel Club alone has 305 licensed kennel and breed clubs in Texas (with
even more UKC clubs), and RPOA is the AKC state federation for Texas,
representing 305 AKC clubs in Texas.

Since this case was highly publicized in local news media by animal "rights"
groups as a victory for "personhood" of animals, they may have to publish
this correction below from the judge. "Personhood for animals" is an effort
that originated with Steve Wise and Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) many
years ago. This national organization is at our Texas Legislature -- as we
speak -- pushing an Animal Abuser Registry Bill, similar to Sex Abuser
Registries. Wise appears to have organized this new legal effort in the
courts: the "Nonhuman Rights Project." ALDF and other animal vigilante
groups have been telling us for more than 20 years what their goals are ...
but few seem to take them seriously. RPOA has always believed them. Yes,
indeed. ALDF is here in our beloved Texas now and who is to stop them?
Does your legislator know about ALDF, HSUS, ASPCA and friends? If animals
are "people," could you "use" them for anything? Pet ownership would be
slavery which they say now!

All Texas Legislature information can be found at www.rpoatexasoutreach.org
under our Home Page "2015 Texas Legislature" Link. There is a list of all
animal bills -- those we support, oppose, or offer as information only. The
links provide our analysis and positions, including a copy of the bill
itself. Also maps of all Capitol floors, restrooms, suggested dialog (if
you want it!), parking info, and Fact Sheets on each bill for your use. The
Fact Sheets can be faxed to your legislators and committee members holding
public hearings. We try to make it easy! ASPCA, Animal Legal Defense
Fund, Humane Society of the U.S. (HSUS), Texas Humane Legislation (the HSUS
arm in Texas), and many other anti-pet agencies are at the Legislature in
full force. If you're not "with" us, you're against us! It will take ALL
of us to preserve our historic relationships with animals in Texas and
elsewhere.

Multiple animal bills will have public hearings Tuesday, April 21st at the
Texas Legislature.
BUT FIRST THE GOOD NEWS ON BILLS WE SUPPORT!
HB 1436, by John Smithee (R), relating to dangerous dogs appeals, has been
voted favorably w/o amendments out of House Committee.
HB 593, by Nicole Collier (D), relating to animal encounter training for
peace officers, passed to third reading in the House.

OPPOSITION to the Animal Legal Defense Fund Bill (ALDF) HB 235 below.
(Texas Animal Law Section of our State Bar and Texas Humane Legislation
Network both include members of ALDF.) ALDF is the national organization
seeking "personhood" for animals in our courts and legal system, which would
eliminate all animal "use," their publicly stated goal!
HB 235, by Jessica Farrar (D), establishing an "Animal Abusers Registry" was
left pending in committee and we must keep it there. Hearing held and
substitute pulled. One member asked questions and wanted to work with
author ... because he wants to support the bill. BARK (Houston Animal
Control) and ALDF testified FOR the bill. Two committee members had
questions centering around the database itself -- protecting privacy,
access, and mentioned even if offenders are removed from list, the old list
will always exist because of technology. No state has passed this ... yet.
We don't want Texas to be the first to do so!

There are three bills RPOA OPPOSES being heard Tuesday, April 21, 2015:
HB 1800, by Amando Walle (D), ADDING public nuisance and aggressive dogs to
dangerous dog regulations.
House Urban Affairs Committee, set for 10:30 a.m. or ADJ., E2.028 (Barking
dogs are considered a public nuisance.)

HB 2562, by Kenneth Sheets (R), "Care" of ALL unattended outdoor dogs; Also
regulates tethered dogs separately.
House Public Health Committee, set for 8:00 a.m., E2.012.

HB 3963, by Jessica Farrar (D), Establishment and Functions of a state
Animal Welfare Commission.
House Urban Affairs Committee, set for 10:30 a.m. or ADJ., E2.028.
THIS IS A VERY BAD BILL! The "Animal Rights" Vigilantes are confident that
they are unstoppable in Texas after passage of the misnamed "Puppy Mill"
Bill in 2011. This is another "tool" for the radical extremists to grease
the track for their Anti-Pet Legislative Agenda.

We hope you care enough to stand up for your animals. If not you, who will?
Your legislators have web pages on the Legislature's website:
www.capitol.state.tx.us/ where you can make comments. Keep our pets out of
politics!

ASPCA, Humane Society of the US, Texas Humane Legislation Network (the HSUS
arm in Texas) are at our Austin Capitol this legislative session as usual;
regulating animal ownership out of existence in Texas -- if we let them.

Three public hearings are scheduled this week so far. You can't judge a
bill by its "subject" matter! Read the official bill yourself. For copies
of RPOA positions, bill texts, and our Fact Sheets with Analysis for each
bill: Go to www.rpoatexasoutreach.org , then select the "2015 Texas
Legislature Link," which includes instructions on how to find your personal
House Representative and Senator and other pertinent information.

The Texas Legislature website is: http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/ There
are "lists" that link to all members of the House and Senate and their
personal websites, where you can post a message. Let them know your opinion
as you're a very important person to them -- a vote! It is especially
important if they serve on any committees that are holding public hearings;
such as below. The RPOA Fact Sheets may be faxed or sent to them in a
variety of ways.

RPOA OPPOSES SB 1781 by Menendez: Relating to Euthanasia as Last Resort in
City/County Animal Shelters.
Intergovernmental Relations Committee; Public Hearing Monday, April 13th
(TODAY). Bill was left pending in committee with a substitute in the works
following testimony for and against the bill.
Committee Chair Eddie Lucio, Jr; Vice Chair Paul Bettencourt; and members
Donna Campbell, Sylvia Garcia, Jose Menendez, Robert Nichols, and Larry
Taylor.

RPOA SUPPORTS HB 1436 by Smithee: Relating to Appeals regarding Dangerous
Dogs.
Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence Committee; Public Hearing Tuesday, April
14th at 2:00 P.M. or ADJ., E2.026
Committee Chair John T. Smithee; Vice Chair Jessica Farrar; and members
Travis Clardy, Ana Hernandez, Jodie Laubenberg, Richard Pena Raymond, Mike
Schofield, Kenneth Sheets, Senfronia Thompson.

RPOA OPPOSES HB 235 by Farrar: Establishes a Pet Abuser Registry, similar
to Sex Abuser Registries.
Criminal Jurisprudence Committee; Public Hearing Wednesday, April 15th at
10:30 A.M. or ADJ, E2.030.
Committee Chair Abel Herrero; Vice Chair Joe Moody; members Terry Canales,
Todd Hunter, Jeff Leach, Matt Shaheen, David Simpson.

We OPPOSED HB 234 by Farrar at the recent Public Hearing, relating to costs
with proceedings regarding cruelty treated animals. A committee substitute
passed out of committee (which RPOA still opposes) and sent to the Local &
Consent Calendar -- chaired by Rep. Senfronia Thompson. This is not a local
bill and has opposition, but unless a representative requests the bill be
"pulled" for a full House Vote, it will be passed uncontested with a group
of other bills.
RPOA Texas Outreach is the "reasonable" voice regarding animal issues.
Animal "Welfare" and not Animal "Rights!"

Responsible Pet Owners Alliance Texas Outreach has a great new logo with a
Texas theme -- a cowboy juggling a dog, cat, bird and ferret! Our logo
artist is Chris Maroney, who did the "collectible" River City Cluster of Dog
Shows t-shirts each year in the past. You may remember! You'll see it when
you check out our website: www.rpoatexasoutreach.org for the 2015 Texas
Legislature information below. Gib Lewis, former House Speaker, is our
lobbyist once again this session. The Legislature adjourns June 1st, with
the governor having until June 22nd to sign or veto bills. Unfortunately
Rep. Senfronia Thompson has blocked our efforts for a bill to move the
misnamed 2011 "Puppy Mill" Bill administration under Texas Department of
Agriculture instead of Licensing & Regulation with her usual threats to
legislators. (More later on this.)

March 13th was the last day to file bills and we've had 25 animal bills to
analyze for positions. Thirteen bills are posted "For Information Only" if
you wish to read them, but we will "only" be monitoring a separate list of
12 Bills, including House and Senate. Four bills to support and eight bills
to oppose. Those bills link to a PDF file for printouts, with our position,
analysis, and bill text. You can send them to media and your personal
legislators easily. There is a very bad bill to establish a state "Animal
Welfare Commission" which would undoubtedly be an "Animal Rights Commission"
-- judging from past experience with the HSUS/Texas Humane Legislation
Network Dog and Cat Breeder Law.

You can find everything you ever wanted to know about the Capitol in Austin
on our website and we'll cover the bills in Action Alerts along the way.
RPOA has a very diverse membership of animal owners and I wish to thank all
of you who replied to my request for feedback on the bills! None of us is
as good as all of us! We'll send out action alerts for all committee
hearings but it's usually very short notice, so be prepared. Primarily RPOA
covers pet issues, not exotics, simply because of time constraints. But all
Texas animal ownership is under attack. There will be no official "RPOA
Lobby Day" at the Capitol this session because so many of our members are
employed and can't attend weekdays. However every day is "Lobby Day" for
RPOA! (More info on the website.)

12  NEWS AND UPDATES / TEXAS LAWS and BILLS / HB 2562 will effect all dog owners. on: April 07, 2015, 07:56:41 am
Need to get the word out on this and try to get it killed. OPPOSE HB 2562 By Sheets, Laubenberg, Farrar
Relating to “Care,” and Sheltering for ALL dogs
THIS IS NOT A TETHERING LAW AS CLAIMED,
BUT A “BACK DOOR” ATTEMPT TO AMEND OUR TEXAS ANIMAL CRUELTY LAW
By Humane Society of U.S. and Texas Humane Legislation Network (their Texas partner)
Who held a joint “Texas Lobby Day” with ASPCA at the Capitol! HB 2562 amends existing law regarding tethering and adds provisions for ALL “unattended” outside dogs, including those that are not tethered. “Unattended” is not defined by any length of time. This bill goes far beyond any reasonable requirements for proper care of dogs and shows a lack of animal expertise.
Texas Penal Code 42.092 Cruelty to Nonlivestock Animals, Section (a) (7) already defines “Necessary food, water, care, or shelter:” as including food, water, care, or shelter provided to the extent required to maintain the animal in a state of good health. This is a very reasonable definition instead of the onerous regulations proposed below in HB 2562:
Unfortunately many times laws are written from the urban dog owner’s perspective without taking into consideration low income dog owners and many working dog breeds or farm dogs. HB 2562 is full of room for abusive enforcement and harassment by “animal rights” extremists, whose goal is to end all use of animals.
IN THIS HB 2562 FURTHER MANDATES NO PLASTIC OR METAL BARRELS IN SECTION 1 CHAPTER D
NO DOGS LEFT OUT SIDE UNATTENDED YOU MUST ABTAIN A STATE LICENSE TO TRAIN YOUR OWN DOG FOR ANY ACTIVITY. THIS IS JUST FEW PIT FALLS IN THIS HB 2562 DO NOT HAVE TIME TO COVER THE ENTIRE BILL THIS IS A VERY BAD BILL IF YOU LIVE IN THE STATE OF TEXAS PLEASE CALL YOUR HOUSE OF REPRESEATIVES TODAY AND ASK HIM TO VOTE NO TO HB2562 DO IT TODAY THIS BILL HAS BEEN PUT ON THE FAST TRACK THEY ARE TRYING TO RUN IT THROUGH FAST

IF THIS IS PASSED IT WILL TAKE EFFECT SEPTEMBER 1 2015.

So right, we just don't have dog owners that stand together.

Once again I guess I stand alone, Over 600 have viewed and no one has replied, par for the course.

I'll stand for what the TDHA was formed for untill I can't.  Just wish other dog owners and dog hunters felt the same way.  Sad that this is the beginning of the end, might not see it in my life time but it'll happen because we want stand together for our right to hunt with dogs.

This is the kind of people that vote to change our laws, gun, hunting, and free speach.
18  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Puppy selling educate? on: June 26, 2014, 07:20:46 am
This is like asking for a 6 month trial on pup to see if I like it.
Bottom line can we guantee we will be here tomorrow?
Do what's right because it's right.

But some people buy a 8' trailer and expect it to haul 4 fourwheelers and 27 dogs.

Mr. Sam and I have swapped dogs over the years and he had some good working dogs.  I still have some of the blood back to my Happy dog who goes back to Mr. Sams Buster dog.  Mr. Sam is LA. Mason and I'm TX Mason in the NALC

The art of a strong defence is a great offence.  Most all are just too busy and things like deer season, dove season, fishing, and summer fun takes first place.
I'm disappointed that can't even get support from members of the officers in charge of these working and hunting dog groups.

Most discourageing when I can't even get the dog owners or dog hunters to stand and support. This is comeing to a head that the anti's want to take away all pets and we just stand by and let them protest and untill we loose it we just aren't showing a strong front.

If you own an animal in Texas, you should be informed and on guard when the
Texas Legislature is in Session! If the radical Animal Rights Brigade
hasn't targeted you yet, it's only a matter of time until they do.

Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN), the Texas arm of Humane Society of
the U.S., announces their slate (below) for the upcoming Texas Legislative
Session, which convenes mid-January. These organizations are not "animal
advocacy" groups as the title of their article below indicates; but are
actually vegan animal "rights" extremists with a national anti-pet,
anti-meat, anti-hunting, anti-rodeo, anti-Sea World, anti-circus, etc.
legislative agenda.
