When you say hard nose dogs, are you talking about where they catch and hold?
No not at all TheRednose, They just hard running catch dogs who will wind scent and trail ground sent. Medium range, any more than that would be an issue to back up these dogs in the terrain we hunt.

Cheers
Dom

Thanks for the explanation I thought hard nose dog might have meant where on the hog the dog will hold the pig when caught.

You have some really nice dogs, and based on those pics seems like they are really getting the job done for you. You take care.
He did say "one out dog" meaning a dog will track, chase down and hold, its own pig. Or picking the mob will mean each will pick its own pig if more than one and usually they will go for the biggest ones.

There's an Australian guy who crossed his with a stag. (StagRussells) Catches foxes with them and says he'll be trying them on pigs.

When McGregor stops bullying little featherweight boys and goes up to lightweight, where he belongs,he wont look so good.Absolutely zero chance against Dos Anjos,Cowboy Cerrone ,Pettis and co. Mcgregor can actually fight as a welterweight without looking out of shape so there is definitely a huge weight and power advantage when he rehydrates and carbs up after they weigh ins which I think is the main reason he barrels through opponents.

I'd maybe use this breed for a protection dog but not for hunting. The Bully Kutta was used for hunting then they were replaced and used for dog fighting.  I doubt you would be able to find one that wasn't dog aggressive, and they are almost always over 100lbs...which in my opinion is to large for a dog at working weight.  I don't think the pros out weigh the cons for this breed when compared to other hog dog breeds out there....but then again, I use Dogos  Grin

Dogos are pretty similiar. many dogos are well over 100 lbs, but hog doggers just pick smaller dogs out of the gene pool to breed and hunt. I really like dogos, but they are white, I wish they came in black or brindle.

If you could find a good Bulldog x Bandog.  Grin

Seasonal. I'm not sure but they could possibly have 2 litters a year in those parts of Africa that have 2 rainy seasons but as far as I know it's once a year. Much more chewy than pig meat.

Could possibly work in place of a dane in a cross.Don't know about their noses though.Would be interesting to see how a cross with something small and drivey like a whippet or smaller type Airedale would work.

I have yet to see or hear of anyone in the States running dogs of that size 150 - 200lbs .Theres a couple of Pakistani guys on facebook who have boar dogs that look more like greyhound crosses.
9  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: some thoughts on crosses and tinkering with non track breeds on: December 26, 2014, 06:10:14 am
I haven't kept any dogs for a long time so who am I to be asking  but out of interest I was thinking, we all know that the terrain, climate and of course the pigs are evolving rapidly. Hotter weather ,more open country etc and mostly the smartest ,fastest ,baddest pigs are the ones getting to breed which obviously means they bear and will teach their young all the tricks while the line bred or and or purebreds that are bred for set consistent traits stay the same. Doesn't the tinkering allow you to try and put in something that for example is more heat tolerant and or counters any advantages the pigs may have developed if you stick with it to produce the desired effect ?
