5  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Poison on: February 03, 2024, 02:18:13 pm
https://www.agriculture.arkansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/FPFS4_poisoning_New_South___Whales.pdf

from an article on poison use in feral hog populations in Australia, where the use of poisons has been in place for decades.

"Other toxins, such as CSSP or SAP (yellow phosphorus) and warfarin,
are being phased out nationally due to animal welfare and non-target concerns."

 https://www.agriculture.arkansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/The_Wildlife_Professional_Is_Kaput_Kaput_September_2017.pdf

The government attempted to fast track Warafin Poison in Texas before, and this seems to be more of the same.

6  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: New poison on: September 07, 2023, 07:10:12 pm
Section 34 part B of the Texas constitutional Hunting & Fishing Rights amendment reads

"(b) Hunting and fishing are PREFERRED methods of managing and controlling wildlife

But we as citizens have to hold our government accountable or they will simply do as they choose.

If hunting is the preferred method what if any consideration was given to this constitutional directive?

If I remember correctly this poison was almost backdoored before until it was discovered an independent study AS PER STATE LAWS was not done on the product.

Full version of the amendment can be found here.

8  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / I gave a HogDogging Q & A for kids on: August 02, 2022, 08:35:38 pm
Met a teacher while roading my catchdog with my bicycle and was privileged enough to be asked to give a talk to kids in summer camp about hunting dogs and hog dogs in particular.
After passing a brief screening process for me and Hoss I put together a little script and brought some things I thought the kids would like to see like a cut vest and boar skull.
I feel privileged to be offered an opportunity to do this and I am considering an attempt to organize something to do more outreach.
These kids gave me a such a good feeling about the future, it was a great experience for everyone involved including me:
After my speech and some very thoughtful questions, there wasn’t a single one who thought that hunting hogs with dogs was “cruel” and every single one wanted to interact with Hoss after knowing what he does for a job!
We are blessed to have “traditional” hunting methods protected by the Texas constitution, but without knowledge of our rights they are easily abused or taken away.
We have to educate our citizens, young & old, so that we can not only preserve our rights but expand our ability to practice and pursue these traditional means.

9  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Hog hunting operation - would like any thoughts or opinions. on: July 16, 2022, 07:48:09 am
Been working on this from scratch for the past ten months. Finally going live. I know none of you are going to pay to shoot a hog, but there are many who don’t have the opportunities that we do. Perfect place for filling a freezer, tuning up your bow or introducing a kid to hunting.  If any of you are in the area and would like to check it out, contact me and we will work something out.

Looks like you are putting them on the pork!

Just a thought but you could throw up a tree stand and let them try to spear one Tim Wells style...
10  THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / Red Guthrie’s Texas Terrier pups available on: July 10, 2022, 10:34:03 am
We have several litters on the ground now that will be ready at the end of August.

We only have Females available at this time price is $600 we have a co-ownership breeders program for people in Texas willing to work the dogs and document their progress.

The co-ownership program price if accepted is $300.

These are the perfect dog for the rancher, farmer or landowner.

They are as smart as they are gritty and were considered by their creator to be the ultimate all purpose lightweight dog.

They are just a bit too large to go to ground, but are able to work in any terrain alone or with any finished pack on any game.

They highly heat tolerant and are great swimmers to boot.

We are currently testing breeding stock with Embark canine DNA health panel.

The results from the first stud were very exciting as he is negative for all 218 health conditions Embark screens for.

 Test results available upon request.

A genetically sound dog bred to make a hand at almost any task, this could be your last chance to own a Guthrie and join the effort to preserve Texas’
own working terrier line at these prices.

The photo is from the breeder
Red Guthrie’s personal scrap book, this gyp ran through a string yard of gamecocks to catch this red Fox and had to be carried back to the house before she let go!

Various game, Combination dogs haha, still don't understand how in the world they caught a Coyote within 60 seconds of having a hog bayed.

I have heard of coyotes honoring bays more than a few times, sounds like he showed up to the wrong party!

Here is a video clip with audio of a coyote honoring a bay

From what I have seen in online pedigrees you would have to go back a hundred years to find any game family of blue colored dogs.

The only documented example is in the ped of Tudor's Black Tige who was sired by a dog named Blue Mike that went back to a line of blue dogs.

  https://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/modules.php?name=Public&file=printPedigree&dog_id=15093

A very good dog historian (IMHO) in the U.K. who goes by Jackal's Old Country blood has researched in and found the last mention of the line was a pure Blue Paul shown in 1880's.

 https://jackalsoldcountryblood.com/the-history-of-blue-dogs-in-apbts-and-amstaffs/

This world is all long gone and can only be verified to a point and I don't promote dog fighting or fighting about it online!

hows that white dog bed with the pointy ears? pit or ..?

That is a female bull terrier named Pira.   She is inbred on a very coveted line of bull terriers in France.   It was told to me that she is inbred on the best dogs of that line.     She was born in France and carries her kennel name Vanelle Kennels Piranha.  Pira for short.    She was imported to the USA by a collaborative effort  by Mr. Florence Vanelle of France and Jacob Miranda of Miranda bullz working bull terriers USA.      Pira stayed in Florida for about 4 years and then was gifted to me  after her securing a lineage there.    I was chosen to receive Pira for 3 primary reasons.  One to secure a friendship and working relationship with Miranda bullz.  Two  to further solidify this line of bull terriers as the best in Fance and to help establish the line as a top performing bull terrier here in America as well.     All her pictures are shared in France by Mr Vanelle to the huge following he and his line of terriers have.    Thirdly to combine this bull terrier blood into the Form for Function pig dog so that not only does the legacy of these bull terriers live on in the bullies themselves but is hopefully solidified in the Form for Function dogs I breed.    The excitement the people of France seem to have when they see this dog in shared pictures is amazing, men and women alike.    Pira has prominent name recognition in France do to her heritage, the sire and dame by which she comes from and the achievement of getting this line to the USA to working people has bolstered the line even more.  I'm very pleased and honored to now be however remotely associated with the Vanelle Kennels and Miranda Bullz and the pleasure it brings them all to see Pira representing her line in such spectacular fashion.       This is all done on Facebook and specific groups and Instagram plus any other platforms they may be using in addition to what I use.      This dog means very little to most people, even to me in the beginning but I'm now starting to grasp the honor in which comes with owning this dog because of her inherited fame and prestige.          I don't mean to say hey look at me by disclosing all of this.  Just sharing because some might think the background and story of this dog is pretty neat.

From what I read on Instagram, she winded and then caught that big boar and held it until the back up arrived!

No doubt she has some very impressive genetics.

Yessir that is very generous of you giving her such an opportunity.

I follow you and two of the young dog hunters (Riverline and Christian) you have taken on hunts on Instagram as well as your account.

We will be lost as a community without people willing to help the next generation.

Awww thank you.     I hope I'm following you as well on the Instagram.     Come make a hunt with me after deer season ends in late January.   I had Jacab Miranda and his wife fly in from Miami Florida to hunt with me for 3 days during the heat of summer lol.    His then pregnant wife Ana got a big toothy boar as well.   I love taking new people.  I get to meeting new people like Chistian and River as I affectionately call her, and Jacob, and I hope they make it back to hunt with me often.  I'm meeting with and talking with several people a week it seems.    River was here with me for 2 days and I think she was pretty surprised with the number of people that contacted me I'd never spoke to before just in the time she was here.  I love talking to people or consulting with them 1 on 1.   Hopefully I'll start doing some hunts for the veterans starting in February in conjunction with a gentleman I met on her and went and met in person, very fine fellow!    Both of us have had not so great experiences with the foundations but he is doing it the good ol boy style now which is how I wanted to do it after my disappointments with the foundations and how they are run.    Hopefully I'll have a weekend a month to so such hints but still continue to take the youth out as well that are finding me.
Don't be a stranger and thank you again for your kind words.
I appreciate the offer and will get back to you after deer season ends!
