HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: dang flies !!!
|

I just keep up with my flea and tick applications and this helps to prevent the flies as well. My inlaws have 2 German Shepherds that stay with us that are not up on all their meds and the flies are tearing up their ears. My dogs have never had any problems with flys and we have tons of flys around here. Fly sprays are a good temporary solution. We use The Advantage Multi and that is the answer. We never have any problems with flies, ticks or fleas. This might not work out for everybody but It sure works out for us on all 4 of our outside dogs.

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Dog Vests

What kind of vest do yall prefer to run on dogs? I will be hunting primarily in the winter and all 3 of my dogs will be mainly RCD's. Do u run a vest with a cut collar or do they have a vest with a cut collar built into them. All my dogs are pretty gritty and I would like to protect them foremost. I am new to the sport and need some help in where to look for the best type of vest. Thanks in advance.

Hey man. Why are u getting out of the RCD's ? I got one of her pups and she is awesome on a hog. She is just about 5 months old now and can wrestle a hog twice her size to the ground. She has a funny way of catching them. She runs them down and jumps on their back and grabs ahold of the ear. I wish I had room for her mama. She is extremely intelligent also. She has been trained around cattle and goats. She is the friendliest dog in the world until she sees or smells a hog. This is an outstanding price for a given producer. Hey man shoot me your email and I will send some pics out to u.

Yeah what Craig said should work. I have a 4 month old pup and she showed no interest in a hog until she heard it squeal and then she jumped in the pen and barked and bayed her head off. Now whenever I put a hog in the pen she cant wait to get in their and get after it.

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Name for male bmc????

How about Zeus, Tank, Mack, Dozer, Pike, Mako, Hodge, Shark, Tiger, or Boone. I get to name all of the male animals that we have and my wife gets to name all of the females. So of course most of our critters are female so I have a plentiful name bank in my head. Some of the names I have listed I have used but not all of them yet. Good luck.

THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / Re: What kind of dog is this?

After much deliberation I think it is Australian Shepherd/Lab mix. Maybe with something else thrown in there. The fully webbed feet come from the lab and the eyes and head structure from the Aussie. Has anyone ever used an Aussie mix for a bay dog. They are supposed to be fast and agile and good at tracking. Then again it is just wishful thinking on my part. This puppy is free to a good home so if anyone is interested it is in the Conroe area.

THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / What kind of dog is this?
|
on: March 29, 2009, 03:36:02 pm

This dog is up for adoption at the vet my wife works at and we are trying to figure out what kind it is? It has the body of a lab with strange black marks on its back. The blueish/green eyes are throwing me off. A couple people have said that they think it is a lab crossed with a catahoula or a husky because of the eye color. It has webbed feet and is probably around 8-12 weeks old. I thought that someone might have a better idea than myself of its breed. Thanks as always for everyones input.

on: March 02, 2009, 11:24:49 pm

I am trying to find places to hunt hogs with dogs. The National Forest is only open for dogs for 2 months. Does anyone know of any other public hunting area that u can use dogs on. Or do I need to just find a lease that will allow me to hunt year round.

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Dogs on hogs in the Sam Houston National Forest
|
on: February 26, 2009, 08:07:02 pm

Does anyone know if u can use dogs on hogs in the Sam Houston National Forest ? If so when is the season for this. Thanks in advance. I am new to this forum and this sport and I love all of the info I can find on this site. The stories of the best dogs and the meanest hogs are awesome. Any suggestions on what the best starter dog for a newbie would be? It would have to be a short range baying dog? Thanks again.
