I wish I had a dog are two that would run with my strike dogs and be there when he or she found. Would'nt take long and they'd be strike dogs too. My strike dogs will leave the wanta be's behind and go find hogs like there suppost to. My old uncle that ran leopards on bad cattle would tie a young dog collar to collar with a finished dog and turnem loose! Don't really remember alot about how that worked out for him but remember seeing him do it!

I agree with crackerc. I raised three littermates at the same exact time, worked all three together and got them on hogs together. Two turned out real good, rolled out on there on and became independent on there on. The other one, I kept taking and putting on hogs and she just (so far) aint making what I like to see in a dog. Don't get me wrong I don't think you can turn a dog out and set on the tail gate and drink a beer and make a dog (until after they make) the hunter in my opion has got to get down in the woods, creeks etc. and get a dog started in the right way, but whether the dog is going to pick up on the game and run with it is up to the dog.

I got a idea that might be good to teach one to wind or at least get them started. Does anyone know where you can get hog sent for training? Without having a caught hog.

I bred my Sally gyp once upon a time to a full blooded german short hair that came out of Kansas. I kept one solid black female named Nig and she was one of the best I'd seen. I sold her to some guys for 2K gave um a trial for two weeks. They called me in about 4 days and said go ahead and cash the check. She did get rough as she got alittle older. (wished I'd kept her)

Just an update for ya'll. I was invited to hunt with some guys from Grande Saline area(Dusty,Justin,Bowdrie). We did some pretty serious hunting for three hunts together starting Friday evening. Anyways I would'nt be postin this update for any other reason but to say we won! We had the heavy top 5. We had a big time and thanks to the guys that put it on. We dog caught 18 all together and weighted our top five. A gun hunter won the biggest hog.

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / R.I.P. Happy

Got the sad news this morning from the vets assistant. My Parker gyp Happy got a poke in the rib area last Saturday when we got on the last hog. Pretty good boar and did some damage to some others as well. I did'nt think it was that bad but took her to the vet Monday morning and he had to do some surgery and almost lost her on the table. She seemed to be on the comeback but just didn't make it. Tusk went to far inside and did some damage I guess. This dog just turned two in January and was just a out of this world hog dog. Maybe tied with the best I've ever seen. No quit in her and find hogs all day long if you'd let her. She will be missed by me and others that hunted with her. If anybody has a good contact on some Parker dogs let me know.

I breed a half blackmouth half plott gype to a full blooded german shorthair sure enough bird dog one time, and ended up raising a sold black gyp out of that breeding that was a hog dog. I ended up selling her for 2K and kicked myself ever since. Mike that was that Sally dog that was the momma, that was at the BDO years ago. I think I could have bred her to just about anything and got some good dogs. I retired her and she started hanging out up at my mothers house, and momma took her and had her fixed.LOL

If i had to pick one cur dog to have in my yard it would be a Parker Cur, I like them they are breed to do one thing and that is hunt.
agree with Ellis on that
25 in three hunt this month behind two parker dogs. The biggest problem is getting them to quit.
