Doodle may not win a beauty pageant but her shear athletic talent and determination in the woods make her a hard one to beat!!!
Pickle is doing good and still catching hogs as good as ever but I think she is 9
The way you layed everything out looks very good and I bet your pups will be Jam up! Good job

I have been running 3 p&P vests for 9years! Thevests have NEVER NEVER been cut through and only 2-3 even break a thread on the inside layer. They are the best built vest for the money! All 3 of my vests look like they will handle 9more years of heavy catching! only draw backs I see are gap between collar and they soak up water and get heavy but not much water in the rocks over here

Hold them out of the woods until they are 6-7months old. They will do the job at 4months but their mouth will write some checks their bodies cant cash. They will also chase a pig through water and wont quit, young jagds have a tendency to drown while trying to bay pigs in water. That is another reason to hold them till they are over 6mo. It gives their body time to catch up in physical ability to their "kill, kill" mental abilty!
In a training pen never put them on a hog that is smaller than 4X their size(they dont need a lot of pen work).

Peach is a medium size Jagd just over 15in tall with mustache and chaps but smooth coat on back. She is a very track driven dog prefering to trail over winding. Peach is a easy handling sweet dog but certainly has the jagd mentality when working game! She has been easy to break off trash and only used on hogs. SOLD3week pics    These Dogs are out of my Gyp Pickle (3\4ABX1\4Dogo) and OD (3\4dogoX1\4Ab)(this is the dog Mark Terry had) Both these dogs are from the Captian and Lucy line of Dogs From UGLYDOG. Thomas is getting a male out of this litter to come up behind Cotton if that tells you anything. PIckle is a well built 80lb female and has thrown large pups in the past. These pups have large bully heads and I look for them to be bold stout dogs! Pickle has been my main CD for several years and proven to be a tuff smart CD! Bryant,
I agree with everything you just said. I too have lost some good ones before they needed to go; for reasons from other than a hog.
10years ago I only hunted for the thrill of the kill. That thrill is over and I am no longer blood thirsty. I love to eat fresh meat but it would be cheaper to buy it from the market.
I find myself also searching for "why I do it"
the only thing I have is the magical moment when the relationship of man and dog come together to produce a hog in a bush that once seemed empty to human eyes and now is alive with our prey. THE STRIKE! Unfortunatly that too has lost it's luster after a few thousand times.
If anyone has any good words of wisdom, I AM ALL EARS

i was just looking thought all my old pics and I dont have many with big boars and Poco, Back when I took a lot of pics I believe he was normally being stapled and in the box while the camera was out for hero pics.....LOL

Poco was a very salty dog and tough as they came. I got him as a puppy from Everett Crainer He was 1\4cur 1\4pit 1\2plott. He had to be put down yesterday just before his 8th birthday. Which is amazing becuase I didnt expect him to live more than 2-3 as rough as he was on a hog! He was bit by a large rattle snake, gored, cut up, cut down and gutted all by the age of 3! Also around 3-4 he went on a hunt in BayCity with Mike and Matt at Thunderbird and contracted some type of bacterial infection which baffled vets and would eventually lead to his death almost 4yrs later! At 4 he learned his groove and really made a nice dog! He was a dog anyone would have been proud to own before he had to retire for health issues around 6yrs old. started out solo at my friend Georges Ranch in Harper Tx. He coon hunted it the night before until 1am and I was there at 6:30am for hogs. Whitetail, Blackbuck and Elk were everywhere just like normal and didnt care that the dogs were around (and had been all night). I was thrilled to have to use my coat and gloves it was a cool 51deg when I opened the box. Ginger and Dolly winded a group in some open country about 400yards off the road and we singled out a small sow around 40-50lbs. I turned Twinkle into the bay and after a min they caught out. Picked George up at 8am and we made a quick look behind his house. Ginger slipped off a few hundred yards on her own and set up bayed. Dolly and Twinkle joined in and we knew it was a good boar when all 3 dogs gave him plenty of space! I sent Pickle and Doodle from the mule at 150yards out and listned for the catch. As soon as I heard the war break out; I floored the mule and drove in. I could see one of the white dogs holding a ear and being pitched around like a cowboy stuck in his bull rigging! The other was stuck solid on the opposite ear with feet on the ground. I took 1 step off the mule and legged the hog! Here is a happy George:  Nice Hill Country boar:  Longshot |
