2  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / 3-17 & 3-18 hunts. Rough day. on: March 18, 2013, 10:39:18 pm
I havent posted any hunts on here in a good while. Thought this one deserved sharing since so many folks know my D-man dog.
Yesterday Levi came out to the ranch to help with a hunt. Hogs are getting scarce around the ranch with all the pressure we have put on them. Hollywood and Dman did what they do, and produced 4 hogs, the guests had a blast.

We called it quits early due to warm weather, but I told them Id take them out this morning for a quick round. Levi had to work, but let me use his bulldog. I just carried Dman and turned him loose close to a cane thicket Id seen some sign by a while back. He worked about 10 minutes and bayed in the canes. Turned bulldogs loose and they caught the boar in his bed. After the hog was dispatched by the guests, I saw Dman was treed at 80 yds but all was quiet. I knew what that meant. Got to him and he wasnt doing very well. Got him to vet, told him to do whatever it took. He called an hour later to say Dman would be fine. My joy was short lived, he called back a few hours later to say the dog didnt make it.
Dman was what a hog dog should be. No interest in be handled or doing anything but hunting hogs. Ive hunted behind A LOT of dogs. A ton of culls, a few good ones, and a handful of great dogs. Dman was one of the greats.  I believe the only dog Ive seen that would top Him was his mama, Stoli. Thats high praise, but anyone thats hunted with him knows what he was. My only regret was not collecting a few straws. That line of dogs produces some sure enough good ones.

9  GENERAL CATEGORY / HUNTING AND FISHING / Texas Big Nasty Hog Contest on: January 09, 2012, 03:18:08 pm
I'm sure some of you have heard of this contest, but for those who haven't it's worth a look.  It's bow only, 2 man teams, all shots must be on camera.  Can hunt anywhere in US this year, not just Tx.  Some really good prizes, last year we won new Bowtech Invasions rigged out plus lots of other stuff.  Like their page on facebook for more info and rules.

Heres a little clip of a few of our kills last year:     http://youtu.be/nV0tA_-BhNo

SUPER NICE buck there. Once in a liftime for sure. I bet your heart was about to thump outta your chest . .

His body was so big, i thought his rack was a lot smaller. After the shot, i texted seceral buddies that Id just shot a 140" 8 or 9 pt. I really wasnt nervous until after the shot, hoping we'd find him at the end of the blood trail.  Even in the pics, his body is so big, his rack doesnt look 179", but to hold it in your hands, there's no doubt!  Shocked  Grin Grin

17  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: New Hog Doggin Show on: August 08, 2011, 09:33:52 pm
yeah, but I still never heard of them  Huh? To me legendary means they're known pretty much statewide(at least by folks whove been around awhile)not just locally...I dont care one way or the other, I know hollywood has to do what they do to make it sound interesting. Hope its better than the last hog doggin show!
18  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: New Hog Doggin Show on: August 08, 2011, 09:24:06 pm
WHY are so many of the hog hunting women named Crystal/Krystal ?

Why if they are legendary has no one in the hog hunting community heard of them?

x2...I thought the same thing....
19  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Build your perfect Yeller dog! on: August 07, 2011, 09:22:14 pm
I'm not a real big fan of a large frame dog, or one that looks and catches like a half pit. But one the other hand, I'm not crazy about a slender headed, long nosed yellow dog either...I like them somewhere in the middle. Built stout enough to handle themselves, but not too big so it makes them less athletic...
