HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Hunting Alone

What in the hell did I just read ..... If you hunt to provide meat for your family , you must of failed economics class. It is far cheaper to buy it at the store. Farm raised pork loin can be bought .95-1.27 a pound. You spend more in gas getting to your hunting spot then you would on 3 lbs of pork. We all hunt because we like to. I kill things all the time that I don't eat. to criticize another hunter because they don't keep the meat or tie up hogs is absurd. I can not remember the last time I cleaned a hog to eat myself. Do to other obligations I no longer dog hunt much but i still shoot a few hogs every couple of weeks. They tend to mess up my feeders and root where they shouldn't be. Is that wrong ?

I got a friend that built a short barreled , suppressed 300 blackout with an IR scope, kills a ton o pork with it, but he set with his set up, 100 yds & that's it.
Anything shot sub sonic isn't very useful over 100 yards. I like the idea of a 30 Cal sub. The only reason I would get one is because it is in an ar platform. A 308 bolt shooting sub ammo with a can would be better for hunting in my opinion.

I see nothing wrong with it. People lead in cur dogs that are straight catch. If the dog finds hogs who cares ? A catch dog that bays is a cull. A bay dog that catches and not bays is a cull. How is a bay dog that bays a cull ?

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Oklahoma Hunting Lease

The main problem people have is allowing access to multiple people to their place. Cattle and the tax savings from them will trump hunting revenue. A good lease is really hard to find. Skip all the forums and pound the pavement. Knock on doors , just like finding new hog hunting places. Dress good and present yourself in a professional manner.

I am the sr blaster for an explosive company. I do mostly production shots in rock quarries but will do some construction blasting. I also run a ranch as the hunting manager and outfit hunts on a few other places for whitetail and exotics.

Doesn't sound like it. I have two of the guardian Titan vests that I really like. I think they are four layers thick. The first one is holding up great the second which is two years newer seems like the craft menship is lacking. But over all they have worked well for me.

The leg holes on my 4r vest were made too small for the bulldog i measured. I am having to run the vest on my smaller bulldog. The chin flap on the vest is too thin and flips down on the chest really easy. The leg flaps did not protect the front of the legs at all (this is where my dogs typically get hit).. I sent the vest back for some mods including adding a small leg flap over the front of the legs. When i got it back i was pretty disappointed, the new flaps didnt over lap like i had intended. So there is still a gap in the front of the leg that can get hit. Other than that the vest seems fine. Lmao...

Was it worth saving the money ?

I know of a few people who do this ,one being an old dogman most seem to rave about. Not feeding your dogs is ridiculous.
