2  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Birthday hunt for andy (ancuegar) on: September 15, 2010, 04:49:54 pm
I meet up with andy (ancuegar) in cotulla for a afternoon hunt. On our first drop Jefe and Twister ran a small hog down and caught him in middle of the road. Good way to start off the hunt. On our second drop I let Tripp and Brisco out, and before we could get back in the truck Brisco spotted some more small hogs in the road. After a long race the hogs won, oh well! After we watered up the dogs we headed to another tank were we dropped Jefe, Tripp and Brisco. They cut out way from the tank and into the wind. Just after they hit the brush Tripp,Brisco, and Jefe opened up. Then the hog decided to head for his bed about 1000 yrds away in a white brush thicket. The road ended about 100yrds from the bay and we could tell it was a good hog. So i cut Duke lose from the truck and eased in behind him. To my surprise I never heard a squeal or grunt. So I knew we had a good one on our hands. Sure enough I finally got to the bay and saw we had a good boar with some good teeth. Once I legged the hog and sealed to deal, it was time start checking dogs.
Jefe took a few cuts and Duke's titan vest did its job, vest had a few good cuts but dog was fine.
All dogs are doing good this morning and can't wait to do it again.
Frist hog

4  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Any Ladner cur owners here? on: May 20, 2010, 05:31:48 pm
My dog is silent as can be. If he open he is face to face with a hog. As for being shy he is not. I guess I am going to keep him around. Atlease he has a job and is not a total potlicker. I might try to breed him back to a Ben female. He loves to go hunting but doesnt like to hunt. If that makes any sense. But once the strike dog finds a hog he is lights out.

6  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Any Ladner cur owners here? on: May 14, 2010, 02:10:40 pm
Thanks for the post. My male has never got out and hunted for me. But as soon as the strike dogs open up he is there and bays like a champ. He is fairly gritty and will stop a running hog. He is smart enough to back up and bay when he needs to. I not sure if I am going to breed him due to his nice muscle conformation and very hog smart. But the tought of sell him has aslo crossed my mind. His grand parents are right out of ladner yard. So he has the genitics in his blood.
Any advice?
Thanks

This feeder has produced two good boar hogs lately.
These hogs have never been ran by dogs before I started hunting on this place.

14  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / 7-31-07 (Lacy first strike) on: August 01, 2009, 03:55:47 pm
My tri color lacy "Tripp" struck this hog after a little rain in san marcos.
This boar hog couldn't resist coming into the feeder after we tested it to see if the batteries were good. We loop around the ranch and dropped Tripp and Cody at the  same feeder and they worked the ground pretty good and off Tripp went. After Tripp opened up I let my help dogs off and they had him bayed in his bed. He was in some nasty cedar thicket. I was super excited to see Tripp taking the lead. I lost my two strike dog a month ago so I had my doubts about my young dogs.
