HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: RCD or CD?

we usually run 2-4 dogs and a catch dog. our strike dog will catch if it is a smaller hog or if another dog catches. the catch dog we will let him go when they are bayed. he will catch and everyone else will to. the only thing is sometimes by the time we let the catch dog loose the hog breaks loose.

that's a lot of hogs! we killed one once and when we butchered it the front shoulder was rotting. we didn't no what it was at first because from the outside you couldn't tell we found out later someone had shot it with a slug. we found the bullet later. we still ate the hog just got rid of that shoulder.

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / RCD or CD?
|
on: May 24, 2009, 02:07:04 pm
|
we use a CD that we lead by a horse or when we walk. but i have thought about getting a RCD. is it better? i think if we use a RCD the dogs might get to far off and bay then the dog would catch and by the time we get there the hog would tear up the dogs. it seems that a RCD would be good but you would have to stay with the dogs so they wouldn't get to far off. our strike dog will smell a hog and is 100% silent until bayed so he will just disappear and if he doesn't show up in 5 or less minutes then he is trailing and will bay way off and we have to go find them and sometimes it takes 10 minutes just to get there so i figured a RCD wouldn't be a good idea but only if we could keep close with the dogs. what do yall think?

i got some hillbilly mouth calls for turkey hunting from reality outdoors and tried them out. i didn't call one up but i don't think there is many turkeys where i hunt. the calls sound really good though. i also got a DVD with the calls and it was a good video. it had some good hunts on it and a really good instructional on it. i will try them out again this fall but i would recommend buying some.

well thanks that makes me feel better. i think she will turn on pretty soon. thanks for all the info. dad said he took her for a walk and the pot bellied pig followed and she barked but didn't act to interested. does a pig like that smell different or something that would make them not bay like a regular wild hog?

THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / Re: LOOKIN FOR A YBMC MALE AS STUD DOG!

i have a friend that has a YBMC male. he is like 14 years old and is a large frame dog. he is really good at finding hogs and will catch a little hog by himself. if he gets on a trail he will trail until he finds the hog so if your not careful you will have to search for him because he is silent on the trail. he is wanting to find a female to breed to that is also a big frame. i can talk to him and see what he says. where are you located?

well i think we are going to put her on a smaller hog and work her way up. my mom said that today while i was at school a neighbor's pet pot bellied pig came to the house and she was barking and so was my 3 month old dog so it might just take time. ![Smiley](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/smiley.gif)

is it ok to let a pup inside until they get older or would it ruin them? if so how long do you let them stay inside?
