|
Hello everyone, its been a while since I have been on here!
I was wondering if anyone knew anything about when the cow dog trail was and where it was in oklahoma. Usually in october I believe, was just curious about an exact date and who all was going, and an exact location.
Thanks

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Gordon BENEFIT tournament.

Two years In a row you have advertised a polygraph and failed to deliver... Let me guess, I bet a guy from right in your neck of the woods won the tournament too.
I also bet that whoever had the second biggest boar through a fit about the "rules".
Just my opinion. The rules don't matter a whole lot when you advertise a polygraph and fail to deliver two consecutive times in a row.
Glad I wasn't able to hunt this thing.

Lookin good Marvin. Started takin deuce back out, he is all healed up. Sent him and my soco daughter to his first bay in almost a year and they each caught their own hog about 175 lbs each. Let him hold his boar in the wash out for a few min while we handled the other and it couldn't shake him.
I'll try and get some pictures of him up soon.

HOG & DOGS / HOG HUNTING CONTESTS / Re: Hunting Opportunities
|
on: August 06, 2013, 10:03:39 pm
|
The easiest way to get opportunities is to tag along with people. Your going to need a network of huntin buddies to hunt and share places with. One place isnt going to last you very long, especially if you dog it. You have to manage your hogs just as people manage deer, dont over pressure them ect.
Where are you located?
How old are you?
Do you have dogs? What kind/style of dogs do you have?
What is your experience level? Try to find someone with more experience than you so you can learn something. If you have been doing this a long time, maybe find someone who hunts a little different than you so you can learn something. You can get on here and read all you want, but you aint going to learn anything compared to being in the woods.

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Good Boar with Pups

Havent posted in a while and wanted to do a little braggin on my pups. Went huntin with a buddy and dropped my two pups with two of his grown dogs. Dropped the dogs down near a few forks off the river, my buddies dogs worked off across the field down in one of the fork and my two pups worked down near some hog wollers on another fork. The catahoula pup I got from Paul Teegardin, named Shiner (10 months), took of with Bobbi (8 months) my yella pup I got from Craig Baker, right behind her. The moved off towards a yote down in the bottom and I heard Shiner start baying about 250 yards. I was thinking she was chasing the yote but Bobbie came bayed right behind her and the garmin showed treed. We marched my buddies bulldog in and sent him from about 100 yards. Hog broke on the bull dog with my buddies dogs joining in on the chase. The stopped him in a fifty yard open field before he made it to the next brush line, about 150 yards from the first bay. When we got there the bull dog was on one ear and Bobbie was one the other, gettin tossed like a rag doll. Got the dogs off and the hog tied and in the trailer. I was real happy to see my young dogs gettin the job done. Boar was around 170 lbs. Big thanks to Paul Teegardin and Craig Baker for these two well bred dogs! This is Shiner, the 10 month old pup from Paul that struck this boar. Boar Hog

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Suspicious CD up for sell....?
|
on: July 16, 2013, 02:25:12 am

The question is why?
Why risk getting your strike dogs getting hurt or killed?
Some folks have to learn the hard way before they step back and think about. I know I did... and I'll never send a catch dog from a distance again.
I got some dogs that won't catch even after the catch dog gets there. Those are the ones I send cd from distances. Now that I'm out of school, I have started to gather some rougher dogs as well, I send a 15 lbs paterdale to them from as close as I can get. Sending a cd from a distance is a good way to cull the week and dumb, no matter the conditions of the property. I have had dogs caught for a long long time in some bad stuff. Hands and knees, swimming in ice water, ect Do I do it all the time? No, especially now that I am able to keep a bigger yard of dogs. But when I was in school and had less dogs, I couldn't afford to have anything so un-versatile as a lead in cd only. But let me tell you, now that I can afford to have more dogs, the only cd that has come off the chain all summer has been my pat

Me and a buddy will be breeding my deuce dog to a 1/8 hot blood 7/8 cold blood greyhound. She is a head dog on yotes and is working good on pigs running with the cur dogs. Handling the briars and stuff real well.
This cross will be used pretty much strictly for open country hunting.
