You really would make me the happiest guy in the world if someone could get me on a decent trophy to mount on my wall, Please somebody help me out.

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Ideal traits of big game hound

Just throwing this out there but has anyone heard of using Great Danes, I just got a 12 week old female And before i bought her i researched her breed some more and i found out they were created about 400 years ago in Germany, they were a cross between I believe An English mastiff and some hound dog breed, But there original use was as a boar hunter, And from the sounds of it european boars are no joke in size.
If you read about ww2 era you will find that Hitler had some Great Danes that he hunted big game with and I guess he hunted boars quite often.
I found a clip from an old movie where it takes place in a jungle and they send 2 danes on a bengal tiger and these dogs were absolutely vicious on this tiger.
Im just curious, Im pondering taking the dog out with me, think it would be cool to see what she would do with a piglet, I got a stuffed animal pig that she loves to tear up, wonder if it would work on the real thing.

i only go through a 50lb bag about every 3 weeks and thats with 2 labs (for duck season) and the great dane, you just got to be careful with there food when growing up cause there body can outgrow themselves and they would have skeletal problems so to fix that you feed them low protein food. But as far as size and getting to hogs, I find they work real good on bigger boars cause if you have one single dog there the pig will stick around and put up a fight instead of a bunch of dogs where the pig feels out numbered and runs away. But as you said you have noticed a 40 lbs pit have problems, well that just proves no matter what size the dog is you could always run into that problem, but as far as a catch dog there isnt musch hogs that will stand a chance.

hey, i wanted to get back at you real quick, let you know that if you read the history of the great dane they were created appx 400 years ago in germany, they were a cross between a danish hound and a mastiff, over the years they became there own breed as most breeds have become, but originally these dogs were breed for big game but speciffically boars, Im not making this up, just google it. Any way if you remember back Hitler had great danes as did many of the german higher-ups and there past time was hunting russian boars with there danes, plus if there not hunting they are a great family dog, very compatible with any other breed out there as well. I will get some pics on here asap, my camera battery died... Where are you located?
