Well here we go... A little known fact... Basset Hounds are perfect hog dogs for a fat, old, tired fellow like me. They're close range and I never have to worry about getting out run by my dogs. Heck, Ryan I told you not to tell everyone that I've traded my good dogs the the Hound breed:)

Happy New Year to all!!!

That's just too cute!!! Krystal, Kristy, Julie will smoke her in the tying contest! You better get Chance as a tying coach, he can tie hogs, steers and rouge cows.... The girls may never catch up? But then again, I think they smoked the guys last contest???

Excuses are excuses.... You have been warned, keep them good dogs off of that place or you will be posting another good dog gone post!

Merry Christmas,

Glad you could get the dogs out... That Lexi is sexy, she looks like she is built for speed, she's definitely ready to go hunting judging from the picture, lol. You and your dogs always seem to put it together. Take care brother...
16  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Razorback hogs, are there any left in the wild or are they extinct?? on: November 25, 2011, 10:43:11 pm
I don't know for certain if we are talking about the same type of hog but 25 years ago we seemed to catch the no butt at all, deep chested, four plus inches of hair on their back, no run at all, two plus inches of teeth, one hog wreck a good pack of dogs type of hog (we called them marsh hogs). I think attrition has taking that type of hog from the gene pool due to the fact they had zero fear/run to them.
17  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: chain setup on: November 25, 2011, 07:09:36 pm
I don't see Mr Mason's setup and I am certain it's first class , I don't recall seeing a dog chained when I was at his place. I weld a chain to the end of a two inch pipe what ever length you need the chain, the pipe length should be around two foot. I will get pics tomorrow, if I remember, lol....

Remember the chain can kink no matter which way you choose to go with!!!
18  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: culling ? on: November 25, 2011, 07:00:41 pm
I would seperate the two littermates. Keep them away from each other and don't let them out together. I would give them a little break and try again.

I am not one to cull early... I am also not one to hunt or train pups together. I hope this helps, pups bring out pups in pups. Peewee, I know you have some good dogs, be patient!!!
19  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Male vs. femal on: November 25, 2011, 06:55:00 pm
Ok, females are smarter... They mature sooner, hunt harder, are tougher, and they're better looking! Don't believe me ask my wife, lol!!!

They're great ones from both gender!!! They're culls from both sides? Friends are enjoying both genders from my last litter.

Fixed dogs hunt the same all of the time, good or bad... Heaven only knows I wish I had not fixed my dog!!!
20  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Male vs. femal on: November 22, 2011, 10:26:11 pm
a dominant dog does not necessarily mean the bravest against a big bad boar...sometimes the meek and weaker dog can be as courageous as a good catch dog.

I am not doubting your statement at all, but in my 30 plus years (like you) of dog training and horse training most of the time the dominant animal has the most drive.  I've had dominant bitches that I've culled due to the fact that they would try to fight to the death. So I'm not disputing you at all but like you I've been doing this a while and this has been my experience.
