Justin, I sure hope that he pulls through and works out for you. Sometimes the dog you save is the best dog ever. One of our best catch dogs was a stray that wandered up our driveway with a bullet hole right in front of back leg. Thats how he got his name Ammo. He was the sire to Bullet, the catch dog that we have now. Our best guess is that he was dumped and one of our neighbors who had chickens or goats saw a stray pit and shot him. He was the most well manored, sweet dog that we ever hunted.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Looking for someone to tan a hide

Does anyone know of someone in the Houston or Beaumont area who can tan a deer hide with the hair on at a reasonable price? I have an Axis hide that I would like to use as a rug or a wall hanging. I was going to do it myself but im afraid that I will just mess up a pretty hide.

Thanks to everyone for the heads up on the low lake level. I think thats why we got a good deal because this place is very nice. But since we are getting such a late start planning this deal and funds are limited, most of the places we found were either already booked or out of our price range. So I think that we will stick with this place for this year and look for something different for next year.

I think that we found a place that has four lake lodges on Lake Buchanan. We are trying to rent the whole property for the weekend. Pretty nice place. Sleeps 28 people and to rent the whole property for the whole weekend, after taxes and cleaning fees it was $2940. Not bad at all after we split the cost up with everyone.

Does anyone have any suggestions or know of a place in Texas where we can have a family reunion that has accommodations for at least 30 to 40 people for a weekend in June? One that isnt too pricey.....

Dang it Justin I sure hate to hear about Smoke. I just now found out. I dont get on here as much as I used to. I know that it was a hard loss for you. Old Smoke was family and one bad ass dog. There is some comfort knowing that he went out doing what he lived for. I know that he would have been so broken hearted it you would have left him at home. Lol, he sure did love his job. RIP Smoke. You will be missed by many.

We eat both boar and sow. What I do is buy fat timmings from our local grocery store and add it to the wild pork before making pan sausage. It also makes great hamburger meat. The main thing to remember when eating wild game is once its taken off of ice to make sausage or whatever, let it freeze solid for a few weeks and then when you cook it be sure its done. No pink in the middle. This is important to kill any parasites that may be in the muscle tissue.

Ive sprayed them down with a water hose that has a good spray nozzle before and it worked pretty good. I sprayed them in the face. Its hard to fight when you cant breath.

The heck with the locals. If I paid that much for a hunt, I would be having rhino ribeye for supper. Im fine with people who disagree with hunting.......but only if they are vegan, do not own leather products, do not drive a car, do not slap moquitos, do not poison ants, and only eat what they forage from the forrest foliage. Otherwise they are just mouthy, obnoxious, hypocrites.

Heck. I would love to findnout where he was caught and barred so we can get an idea of how far these barrs travel. Nothing caught on this farm is cut or marked. Except for the cut under the front leg. Lol

Justin, I hope that Camo is doing ok. We had a fun group of people last night. We enjoyed the company. Catching a big barr hog was a bonus. I know that the curs had him by the ears but my hat is off to Artie for legging that big sucker without a catchdog on him. He was bucking and spinning with the dogs on him when we got in there.
Ol' Smoke always has liked to go find his own hog. Lol .....and he has figured out how to turn those tracking collars off. Lol
