Heck yea you can't beat lixits, if your dogs won't drink out of them make sure you flush each lixit because the water tastes like glue until you flush it real good. When it freezes I just drain mine and go back to buckets, gets pretty cold here in the winter

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Good Hunt with video

Thanks Canyon it was a fun quick hunt. I have the go pro mounted to a cut collar. I drilled four holes through the collar and bolted on to the base of the camera. Then I drilled a tiny hole through the housing on both sides and used zip ties and secured it to a larger zip tie that is secured to the collar just in case the camera mount breaks. If you hunt near water you probably will want to use some silicone to cover the holes to the housing to keep it waterproof. Hope that helps you out.

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Good Hunt with video
|
on: March 10, 2014, 07:35:40 pm

Went out on a quick hunt where Ive been seeing hogs on the game camera. We went to the first waterhole that had alot of sign with no luck so we loaded the dogs up and headed to the next waterhole. My mother in law got me a go pro camera so I figured I would test it out. I put the camera on my loose baying dog Goose to see what kind of footage I could get. We were downwind from the next waterhole about two hundred yards and Goose and Thor were acting piggy so we dropped the dogs and had Rhino the catchdog on a lead for some backup. I could see some movement behind the waterhole so I ran up to the windmill and climbed up to get a better view. Sure enough Goose was hot on the trail opening up for the other dogs to join in. We were heading towards the bay and there were about ten big hogs and a bunch of little football sized hogs running straight towards us. The hogs got about thirty yards from us and I cut Rhino loose an I get down in my samarai stance with my sticking knife out ready for battle. The hogs went everywhere and the dogs singled one out and it was lights out for him. Goose takes off after the pack and herds the hogs right back toward the dogs for another catch. Night night for number two hog. Then the dogs singled another hog out by the waterhole and that was lights out for number three hog. The dogs did great and I was proud of Goose for rolling out working the hogs in the open country. This is the first video I have ever posted but I hope you enjoy it. http://youtu.be/GnEvNyQBekU

Yes sir, sounds like the crosses your doing are leaning towards the bull Arabs, I sure like the looks of the arabs. I was thinking of crossing a hot blooded greyhound to a pit and have a fast RCD to hunt the peanut circles but thinking and doing are two different things

I like the way your thinking on your breeding Buddylee, that should be a pretty unique dog when you get the breeding done. How do you like your Dane/Pit cross? I've been talking to a fella in Georgia about the bird/bulls sound like a good rough cross.

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Getting our dogs out there!!!

Here's my two cents! Start posting pictures of your hunts with pictures of your dogs with them. Tell how your dogs did during the hunt good or bad. How you hunt i.e. walk, road, etc..Once other members see that you are catching hogs then you will see interest in your dogs. Proof is in the pudding! This is just my personal opinion but I will look at members posts and if all there posts are in the dog trader then that's a red flag for me. Good luck with it!

I will throw in my two cents on the dog trader issue. I look at the dog trader section daily just to see what people have for sale. You can see a trend who have dogs for sale all the time. The dogs they have for sale may be legit or they may just be a dog peddler. What I like to do is look at the persons posts and see if all the post they have are in the dog trader, if that's the case I would stay clear of them or do some more homework on them. If the person selling the dog has some posts of caught hogs makes me not as Leary but still cautious. Proof is in the pudding.
