1  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: No need for a CD..... on: April 14, 2025, 01:26:35 pm
How much? How much did Cajun pay you to write this one? I have some good stories but mine are all true! I would never lie or stretch the truth. This almost sounds like a make up story out of guilt for taking the poor old fella to the palmetto thicket. It’s very creative though!

Lol, I’m picking of course. I have zero doubt that his dogs are everything you described. I’ve never seen one die like that but I have seen them get stiff in a matter of a minute or so after being stuck. I have to imagine that it’s a pretty proud moment for a person when his dogs do that well. It really speaks volumes about how their ability to trail as far as accuracy and speed.

I wouldnt charge him man for a story like that ...  Im afraid he would charge me and my son to hunt with him and I couldnt afford it..........LOL...
2  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / No need for a CD..... on: April 14, 2025, 07:43:03 am
Fellers...  I know there is plenty of guys on here that has seen more than me But I have to share this story with yall  Cause I aint never even heard of this ...

We invited Cajun and Mike the knife up to hunt with me and my son this past weekend..  You know you gonna learn something when you hunt with guys like that but I didnt think I would see what I seen..
It started off at daybreak when were  taking the dogs out of the dog box and putting collars on them..  Well Cajun has a very good handle on His magicians Is what I call em, but especially his 2 male dogs he brought.  These dogs are humans in a dogs hide cause they know what to do and when to do it.   He lets em out the dog box while we are loading others up and before you know it  we hear baying about 700 yards from us in the dark across crawfish fields ...  LOL>... I told him we didnt even have time to put our boots on and they left and went found hogs ...

But that aint the kicker for the day....   We caught a couple and turned the magicians out along with one of Cajuns gyps who is quite honestly prob the best gyp I have seen at 3 yrs old...They strike and start running ,,,
Well 2 1/2 hrs later and miles away across a big canal they finally bay..  So we can hear the hog being caught so me and my son just cross the canal without a cd since we thought the hog was handled by the 3 dogs pretty good and we would go take care of it...  WELL we when got to the briar patch we noticed the young dog was still baying but the male wasnt ,, he was just standing there so when we laid our eyes on the hog we both looked at each other and my son said   Daddy shes dead as a door knob....  There this 180 pd sow was dead and stiff legged with no visble signs of injury but on her ears..   We skinned this hog and she was not cut up at all so  All I can figure is them dogs run her until she had a HEART ATTACK and died.    Now I have said it before that the runners would just die tired when it comes to the bottom that Cajun's plotts have in em and it just prooved true Saturday morning....   I told my son Cajun is gonna have to start charging entry fees for the shows that his dogs put on   LOL  >>>>>

Cajun you mean that you took him and his boy to a nice easy place where he only had to deal with a little mud and water and he turns around takes you to a jungle? Man that just doesn’t seem right. Sounds like y’all made a good showing though.

I never could talk the sale barn into letting me bring em to hunt ..  LOL..  thats the only way I will ever be able to measure up to the spot that they have taken us...

There might be a hog behind every palmetto but I can promise you a dog better be ready to work for it ,, You cant see your feet when you walking thru that mess...
4  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: STARTED SOME MORE PUPS on: April 07, 2025, 08:47:23 am
but here if a dog requires discipline and can't stand it they are considered a cull.

Me and you think alike in this respect...
Hope them pups and the cd work out for you ,, they are in the right hands if they hold up their end of the bargain..

6  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: 3/8/25 and 8/9/25 on: March 10, 2025, 09:44:43 am
We sure enjoyed the round with yall...  I dont know what happen to the easy hogs up in North La..  they dont cooperate like they use too..
We tried everything in the book that day....  swimming for em,, chasin them down and running over them with the utv,, relaying dogs ,, thank god their was a old fence in the woods that the dogs ran the boar hog to and he had trouble crossing the fence so they bayed him right by it.... But after we lightened his load in the back end the fence it didnt stop him from putting us up a tree when he found a way under the fence ...LOL...
I did find out that a Honda Rancher with a full tank of gas gets rite at 34 miles to a tank...
7  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: 3/4/25 Mardi Gras Hunt on: March 05, 2025, 06:53:32 am
that boar hog didnt have a good game plan...lol     course it prob wouldnt have mattered anyway,,, bet the dogs said it felt good to them to have hard ground under them too,, they was prob movin like grease lightning after what they been moving thru...
8  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Last trip to Hog heaven on: March 03, 2025, 08:27:38 am
We were able to make one last trip with Cajun and his crew this past weekend..    If it would do any good I would cry about it being the last round there....  The lizards are coming out pretty good so I can understand why this would be the last round...    I kept seeing way too many of em as long as the gator tail boat we were in ....
It didnt take long for the dogs to start singing on the boats telling us where the hogs were at that morning,,,  Caught some fine boars with a couple dogs getting some love taps but nuthin too serious.. Had a couple young boys with us and they were able to stick their first so that made the trip... The last boar hog we caught made us work for it though,,, it aint suppose to be no briar thickets down in the marsh but I can tell you he found one and it was the kind me and my son had to crawl in on our hands and knees ... them nice green ones that are about as big around as a half dollar.. rip your clothes off by the time you come out ... it took me and him all night to dig em out our scalp.... lol

That month of Feb was a awesome month for me and my son to be able to hunt with Cajun and his folks...  learned alot from them and their dogs..

Highwater I don’t doubt a word you said. I don’t figure he could have the success or longevity he’s had without those caliber of dogs. If you think they are good now, just wait until he joins the club and adds some border collie to them.! I bet your right too about getting out there and not being able to find your way around.

When yall make that cross man,,, save me one,,,  or two atleast....  LOL...
12  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Hog Heaven on: February 24, 2025, 08:02:24 am
When Cajun tells you that hes gonna take you to "Hog Paradise",,,,   HE means it...  Im just getting the chance to write this up on ETHD from the hunt with him and his crew.  For some reason I cant write it up or post pics no more on my tapatalk app...
I thought he was gonna blind fold me and my son when we left Saturday morning to a spot he called Hog Paradise.. LOL...   Dont matter if he did or didnt ,, I couldnt find my way back there again anyway,, Talk about the end of the world he took us too...  But when we got there it was well worth the trip.  Hunting a spot like this was like taking  a NFL team to play against a  AA highschool team....
If anyone has never hunted with the caliber dogs that he took that morning ,, a feller aint never seen what a hog dog is   ..  We had a hard time keeping up with the relays and how quick the bays were produced...
Me and my son talked about how dogs like that dont come around in every litter,, those dogs that know what you want em to do and you aint got to say a word..   The kind you just got to take to the woods and they will do the rest..   All around it was a great experience for us to see that kind of hunt,, those you can mark down as a great memory that you wont forget....

Now I got to try and find a spot to take him and his crew that matches that spot,,,,   I guess I will have to see if the Sale barn will let us make a hunt one day.... LOL>...

Toby, I hope you and Wesley dont come down with the Nutria Itch. That is some bad stuff.

Well it aint hit us yet so we might dodge it,,,   I told my wife about what you said,, LOL... We aint never heard of nuthin like that and dont want no part of it..
14  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Something to think about on: February 11, 2025, 01:00:44 pm
Last month , me and my son were hunting along the Red River and put the dogs thru a pop cane patch where they jumped ....  It wasnt a surprise on where the hog ran since we had hunted there before and they tend to do the same thing.    They swim a big ditch about 400 yards from this spot and get on the other side of it nearly every time unless the dogs stop them before.
Well this time they dont stop them til there about .6 from us on the other side of the ditch and they are showing bayed on the river bank.  I wish I could show the picture of where this boar hog was set up and it would prove to some folks that a hog AINT a dumb animal..
This boar hog knew where this log was off the bank of the Red River where he had to go down a 30ft bank and position himself where he had the log on his back side , which was the river on the other side of this log ,, but the water was only 3 ft deep in the wedge where he could stand a face the dogs up the bank of the river..   Ive got a video of it when I first hit the bank of the river up 30 ft and I thought to myself  HOW in the world did that hog know to get right there,,, He aint feeding down there so how did he know it even existed for him to get there...Huh?  Make a feller think twice to hog hunt if the hog had a gun,, we wouldnt make it..  LOL..
15  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Veteran Hunt w/Cajun and more on: February 11, 2025, 12:49:30 pm
I appreciate what you guys do for the veterans, congrats on a good hunt for a good cause. I can absolutely testify to the fact that even though sitting in the boat and looking at the terrain it looks like a cake walk, the marsh can be extremely difficult. When you step through the upper crust it literally grabs hold of you and sometimes you might not be able to get out alone. You do get better at where to and not to step. It was a totally different terrain than I'd ever hunted in, I'm more of a hills and hollers guy haha. I wouldn't be able to ride my mule there, she'd wind up gator bait.  Glad it went well for everyone.

Yessir,,,  That area aint nuthin like a pine thicket we use too..LOL...   I wish I could show the pics of me and my son waist deep in the ditches ,, you step in the wrong spot and you cant find bottom.... My son had to literally lay on his belly and me drag him out with dog leads ....   I can tell you after hunting down there for two days straight  ,,,  me and the dogs didnt have no problem sleeping at night...hehehe
16  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Veteran Hunt w/Cajun and more on: February 10, 2025, 01:12:26 pm
Tapatalk wont let me post pics from this past weekends hunt so it takes the fun out of what this hunt really was..  We were invited to Join Cajun, his crew and some Veterans on this trip across some of the toughest country a feller could bay a hog in..   If anyone thinks that hunting out of a boat down there is nuthin to it,, well it will probably prove you wrong like it did me.  That ground down there aint ground ,,,its floating mud that makes a feller sink to his knees every other step ..  How them dogs of Cajuns run for hours in that is really a testament of what is bred in those dogs.
It was truly a honor to meet and hunt with guys that deserved more than I could give em to pay em back for the dedication that they have shown to our country.  Freedom aint Free
I wish that I could share the pics that we were able to take of them taking their first hogs by way of dogs,, some said they had never experienced such a rush.  One feller had it easy and we was able to drive the boat rite to the hog and dog   LOL.. put the live hog rite up in the boat with him ..
We had took one guy out with us on a bay and had to cross a ditch that was naturally between us and the hog,, that poor feller tried to jump it and it sunk up to his waist like quick sand,, LOL..  Me and my son had to use our dog leads to pull him out...
Me and my son are honored to be able to hunt with Cajun and his crew,,,, they are dog men the way its suppose to be.  We were also honored to be a part of that weekend hunt with these veterans,,, and hope to set up more of them in the future.

20  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: 9/2/24 hunt on: September 03, 2024, 07:06:19 am
Look like he had plenty to give up on the back end,,,   Heck of a run for dogs in this heat..  that is to say the least,,,   I might have had to say a few choice words after the second miss but some of em know where to get to make it almost impossible to give the cd a sporting chance to do his job...
