Agteach is on the money. It's a hygroma (false bursa (fluid filled sac) that occurs over bony prominences and pressure points). It is caused by trauma to the joint. Each time the pup lays down on the concrete it contributes to the problem. These are more likely to develop when it is hot since dogs on concrete are more likely to try to lay out flat to get cool. If you get it off the concrete it should resolve itself within 2 weeks-1 month.

The guy I got my best plott from hunted hog and bear for many years. He told me that if he was going to hunt only hogs he would use cur dogs.

All I ever have in the old brown chevy truck is a bunch of culls...actually 23 and counting. I'm about ready to empty the truck and go back to a hobby I am more successful at.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Finding bigfoot

I don't think there is a bigfoot. Agteach11 and I were on a hunt one night and kept hearing some unnatural howling and growling noises. About an hour later while we were tracking to our dogs we found out what the noises were. It was bigfoot hunters playing recordings of what they think bigfoot sounds like. There were at least 6 of the hunters. They had a lease road lined with motion sensors and cameras. They were serious. I thought it was pretty dang funny!

The black barr hog in the photo was much meaner than the average hog. He pretty well wrecked house.

Will the breeder of your pup not replace it? Did the mother dog accidentally get bred? It is very irresponsible to breed a dog that is known to have a condition like this. I had two pups that developed this condition. Neither parent ever showed signs of it, but seemingly unaffected dogs can be carriers. After a brief battle, I went ahead and culled. The negatives greatly outweighed the positives for me. I don't want any high maintenance dogs.

10 months old yesterday, 100% pocahontas straight off of Eugene Walker's yard, maltese brindle, will bay the hair off a hog, will go to a bay, will not find his own hog, not open yet but I would expect that may happen. $300. Michael Walker 903-431-0800, walkerm14slayer@yahoo.com

It's great having good friends like ETHHunters and agteach11...ungrateful daddy didn't marry mommys! Hey I'm kidding. Tiny Tim and Rambo are great guys. I know that because they continue to take me hunting with them even though over the past 4 years I have continued to bring an array of aggrevating dogs and puppys, none of which have ever really contributed. These guys are fun to hunt with and are first class smartasses, just like me. Their dogs aren't bad either! I know the video is shakey and spotty. My old ass had ran about 250 yards to get to the bay and I did start thinking about self preservation (brought out the hot lead) when the hog casually threw a couple dogs up and over the 7 foot enbankment I was standing on.

Plott hound brood gyp. She is out of Mike Cauley's breeding (30+ years hunting and breeding plott hog dogs in south Lousiana). She was retired very early and made a brood gyp due to her catchy gritty attitude. I bought her last June and have raised 2 litters off of her. Currently she has 4 week old pups. I will have them off of her in a week and a half then she will be ready to go. She had 5 the first litter and 7 the second litter for me and has raised all of them. She will come in again middle of June. Good opportunity for someone who would like to add grit to their plotts. 8 years old as of yesterday. $500. Michael Walker 903-431-0800.

The two guys I got my hounds from advised me to not let them get roughed up until they were over 8 months old. They said it would set a puppy way back to make that mistake. Allegedly hounds on average start later than cur type dogs. I have been raising my own puppies. It is costly and a crap shoot as to whether I will even end up with a good one. If you are really wanting to get into hunting soon, it may be best to go ahead and spend the money it takes to buy a good one then try to build around it. By the time you figure in everything that goes into hog hunting, $800 is a drop in the bucket. I have no doubt you can buy a dog that finds pigs on its own for that or less. If I didn't hunt with guys that have good dogs and I wasn't neck deep in what I've started with these puppies I have now, that's what I would do. There is a real good chance that there are people on here that would be willing to sell you a good dog pretty cheap that just has some tendancy that pisses off the dog's current owner
