Due to the loss of my 2 best dogs, Im looking to buy a good strike dog or two. Must be silent, hunt out 300-500yds and have plenty of bottom. Must be able to consistently find hogs alone. Definitely has to be trash broke. If u cant show the dog hunt, dont waste my time or yours. I have to see the the dog work (and not in your baypen in the backyard either). I have cash in hand for the right dog or dogs. Call or text 573-701-6789. email- danwadlow@yahoo.com

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: tweety/bennet bmc pups here

My dogs are from Tweedy X Buck cross . They dont bay long before they grab an ear . They're catchy just smart enough to do do it from the side instead of head on.
My Bennett cur is staight no fear grab an ear and never let go kind of dog. Latches on like a bulldog. Shorter range ,extremely fast and good nose.
But in my opinion dogs will lean towards the direction they are trained and alot of times learn things from other dogs they're being run with and thats how I trained my dogs. The pups I have raised off of these bloodlines have been natural hogdogs and dont need much training ,just an opportunity.

Thats a good cross for your huntin style Monty. I have a few of those Bennett x Tweedy pups of my own. Extremely intelligent pups. Quick learners and rougher than a bulldog. Lol Dont let the way them Looong range Tweedy bred dogs hunt fool ya, them dogs can hood with the best of em and still get it done on the ground as well. I have one gyp that will strike off the hood and range out to 800 on the ground. Hope they turn out just like ya want.

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: R.I.P Leddy

Thanks guys. Justincorbell, I hear ya man. Leddy was no family pet by no means, just a awesome hunting machine that lead my pack and myself for that matter. She was the backbone to my hog hunting adventures and showed me the real deal of what a hog dog should be.Like a tool for hunting, she stayed put up until time to hit the woods and get to work. No affection and petting till her job was done. I know its the life of a hog dog and the chance we take but its a hard thing to swallow when it does go bad. number 2ty part is , I just started running a vest on her. It was only a bay vest and I kick myself in the butt for not getting her a better vest but its what I had at the time and she has only been cut once out of hundreds of hogs. I just cant get the thought of all the things I could have done different out of my head. I have had a lot of dogs thinking at the time they were the real deal and were great dogs, and I have hunted with a lot of people that had good dogs, but Leddy changed my opinion of what a good dog really was. I got Leddy from CircleC as a pup and trained her myself....well I put her in the woods and she figured it out pretty much on her own. I didn't hunt her behind other dogs to train her or hold her back while other dogs showed her the ropes. She didn't hunt well behind other dogs because other dogs around here just couldn't keep up. She would flat burn the woods up lookin for a hog and usually ranged out to 800yds in no time, making big loops and covering everything in between and would take a hog as far as needed to get it bayed and caught. Totally silent on track and only trashed once and it was on a deer that jumped up rt in front of her. I yelled at her and she tucked tail and went on and found a hog minutes later . Gritty as she needed to be to stop a hog and would catch only when other dogs caught. She was smart about catching when she did. Come in from behind, grab an ear and stay to the hogs side. She was the kind of dog that seemed like she knew what ya was saying to her and always tried to please u. The biggest thing of all , she did this consistently. I have only had two dry runs in the last two years and that is really something for where I hunt here in Missouri where there's not many hogs and plenty of mountains. The only dog I've ever had that could out do her was a pup I raised out of her littermate sister. He was a natural and found a hog first time to the woods and consistently every time after. He was basically the same as Leddy with more grit but I lost him on the last hunt this spring before it got to hot for me to hunt. Mike, I really appreciate your offer and may have to come to Texas for one. I do still have Vega and although she has more GO than I do she has produced some great dogs. My main dogs now are a pup from Vega and a pup from Leddy. I'm also keeping four pups I have out of Vega and a male BMC I got from Monty Bennet as a pup from his line. They should be a lil shorter range and lil more gritty but I'm sure they'll be great dogs either way.

I lost the heart and soul of my pack yesterday. We dropped the dogs yesterday morning and it didn't take 5 minutes till Leddy was working a track rolling out over 800 yds to the west then circling back . Garmin started beepin ,showing dogs treed almost 900 to the east so we head to them.Half way there I noticed Leddy was over 500yds to the north showing treed as well. I continued on to the first bay and the dogs have a lil shoat caught. The dogs roll out another 800 yds to the east and I headed back to Leddy. I could hear her baying when I started the Rhino to go to her. I drove up to within 100 yds ,shut off the Rhino and couldn't hear her baying. I knew something was bad wrong as I walk in closer. I walked up the hill and found her cut down. My heart stopped as tears boiled up and my gut started knotting up. As a hog hunter ,I KNOW that it happens all the time and I have lost several dogs this way. I always tell my kids not to get attached to the dogs because it could happen anytime we go, but its hard to not love a dog like Leddy. She had a personality of her own and was always trying to please. As a hog hunter I'm nothing without her. One of the best dogs I've ever hunted behind. Im to the point I'm ready to quit hog hunting because I know Ill never be able to replace her. BUT.....I wont quit till I get the hog that got her. Im sure gonna miss my long legged Leddy dog. R.I.P Leddy

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Young pups on pigs...

I pen my pups up at weaning time ,letting them out daily for exercise, then turn em out after a couple of weeks to roam freely. It changes my outlook on certain pups everytime. Lol I feel it makes them more dependant on there nose and natural instinct ,plus it builds there endurance and stamina. I also have a couple pigs in a pen which the pups usually spend alot of time baying. Usually there are a couple that really stand out and shine but I dont really rely on when deciding which ones make the grade and which ones make the cull list. From three to six months I will work with them on penned pigs just to let them know what I want from them. Ok now this part may sound crazy to most but from 7 months I take whichever pups load up when I go on a hunt. No particular reason for letting them decide if they go its just how I've always done it. Ive had pups find there own first time out on a couple of occasions ,but usually they just stick with the old dogs. I had one last year that was very independent and ran his own way everytime ,but found hogs consistently. He was that once in a lifetime kinda dog. By the time they get to be one year of age I start hunting them solo. They will either make it on their own or get culled unless they are just a damn good help dog but everyone has plenty help dogs. Lol Pups very seldom out strike the old dogs so they need a chance to prove themselves on their own. I always try to drop em in fresh sign or someplace I'm sure there are hogs.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: I need help guys or gals! Check out the picture!

I had a young dog do the same thing a month or so . He struck a sounder and caught two smaller sows and showed no signs of being injured. A few days later he had a knot on his side the size of a softball. wasn't eating much and wasn't moving around as usual. I drained it and gave him antibiotics and had to leave for a week for work while my son looked after him. I returned home to discover another knot lower on his side and his condition getting worse. again I drained the knot and gave him antibiotics twice daily for another week. he seemed to be doing better and was moving around better and was starting to eat more. After the second week I was making my rounds through the yard checking my dogs and found him dead. I raised him on my yard out of my dogs and he was a natural hog dog. He found a hog his first time out and almost everytime after. He figured it all out on his own, I never had to show him anything or put him behind another dog to show him. He was the best dog I have ever owned or even hunted behind . I am sure I will never be able to replace him and I gotta say he would probably still be the heart of my pack if I would have just taken him to the vet and got a positive diagnoses of what was wrong with him.
Anyways sorry to ramble on ,but I would have the vet check it out.
