THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / Blood Tracking Jag For Sale - Update - REDUCED!

Catch Dog Online Posts: 119 Blood tracking Jag « on: February 11, 2014, 08:20:16 pm » Modify -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Against my better judgement, looks like I will be selling my blood trailing dog. This is not 100% a sure thing, but I am leaning to it. Pancho is a castrated Jagdterrier that is about 6-7 years old. He simply loves to hunt, and for that matter, can not be around a house with cats/chickens/pet squirrels or anything else that you do not want to see dead. He does not like bad weather, deep water, or loud noises. You can shoot over him if you have a wounded deer, but if you take him on a dove hunt or have a 4th of July firework celebration he will try to hide in a hole. He is kennel kept, very playful, and loves kids. He no longer hunts wild pigs becuase he tries to catch them and will get himself killed in the process (it's a bloody mess trust me). He is only kill aggressive with pigs and varmits, but will chase cats and such. I'm almost 100% positive if he has the chance, they will be pushing up daisies also! He works on a lead while on track, mostly to slow him down and we can keep up. Actually works better with kids tracking since they usually move faster. Will track off lead, but you may want to invest in a tracking collar if doing so. He will roll out on a wounded animal and you will not call him off. I have released him on mortally wounded deer that were trying to get to in view of us and he has caught everytime. Very easy keep dog, does not eat much and is just a fun little dog to be around. Kids use him to pull them on skateboards and bikes. I have to make room in my kennels for a new police K9, and he is my only option. Would be good addition to a bow hunting family with kids in the country. He has made lots of recoveries on wounded deer, and will catch. $500.00 I am open to discussion or questions and I have tried to represent the dog to the best of my ability. (By the way, he does do well inside the house also). I see him as a great dog for a ranch home or hunting family out in the country. Please email me at bfoti@bellsouth.net or text at 337-384-1578.

THE CLASSIFIEDS / CLASSIFIED ADS / Garmin Astro and 3 collars
|
on: March 07, 2012, 10:21:30 am
|
Up for sale is a Garmin Astro unit and 3 collars. The unit is like new and all collars function well and have been updated via the Garmin website. I am no longer running hog dogs and have no need for the unit. Two of the collars are the DC 30, and one is the old style DC 20 (orange box). The DC 20 functions great, just like the DC30's, and is mounted on a regular collar. I used this collar for the catch dog and attached the DC 20 to the top of the cut vest and it worked great. The unit is located in Crowley, LA (3 miles north of I-10) and I can ship via UPS at buyer's cost. I am asking $525 for everything and can send pics via text. Email me via bfoti@bellsouth.net with any questions. You can also text me at 337.384.1578, Thanks for looking! ********SOLD************** Didn't even think about checking with some of my local hog hunters and as luck would have it, one of them needs it.

Also, I had my dogs vaccinated on the snake bite vaccine, but the vaccine is designed for rattlers. However, my vet says it will give me some protection compared to having nothing. For $28, I got it and considered it a investment.

After having two bit last spring, I stocked up on Dex. Just remember guys, the Dex is not a cure for the snake bite, you still need to treat the underlying emergency of the venom. Give 25mg Benadryl and Cephalexin ASAP!!!! The Dex is great for helping break up the edema trapped in the soft tissue, but the benadryl will be the most useful when given as quickly as possible.
If the dog has any signs of airway constriction, haul A$$ to the vet's office! The dog can be saved if you get there in time. Most deaths on snake bites occure from airway constriction secondary to swelling, not the actual poision. Hope this helps and good topic guys!

i have heard of uncle earls for years and have always wanted to make the trip.. this year me and my clan will be headed there i have family in Manny Louisiana and i dont think it is too far from there? so we should have a place to stay. Cant wait it should be fun From Many, head east on Hwy 6 to Natchitoches, then from there, head east to Clarence, jump on Hwy 84 and that will take you all the way to Winnfield. Once in Winnfield, you will easily find Uncle Earls by following the signs and so on. I would venture to say it will be an hour one way from Many.

My deer lease is 12 miles outside of Winnfield. Uncle Earls is inside the city limits of Winnfield, and the hotels are very limited. RV park on site, but not much as for as service. They have several RV spots around town for people wanting to set up w/ power. Also, the citys of Pineville and Alexandria are not that far away if you absolutely need a hotel. Even if you are staying an hour away, it is not that big of a deal since once you get there, you have no reason to leave except to sleep!

Well, I'll take him and his yella dogs anytime! Funny $hit, when I walked up to introduce myself and asked him how many padlocks he had. Looked at me kind of crazy, so I told him he better go padlock them kennel doors.
Seems good people always enjoy the company of other good people!

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Lamesa Ranch - Eagle Pass, Tx
|
on: January 31, 2011, 10:43:01 am

Guys, I am always the first to call out a bad trip or a junk outfit when I see one. I also like reporting the good outfits and hunting trips I get to take. I have got to say that the people of the Lamesa Ranch are some of the best!!!! Got to make a cull buck hunt w/ my wife and two other couples this past weekend and I can honestly say I am looking forward to staying in touch w/ these people. After all, the first thing I notice when I pull up is a kennel full of awesome hog dogs!!!!!
I love going to south Texas for the scenery and the animals, in which you can actually see deer unlike La. where they come out 5 minutes before dark (not always, but you know what I mean). I have been on some places where the guides and ranch hands are there for a "job" and don't make the trip that enjoyable. This trip was special as it was a weekend getaway with my wife who just loves the outdoors, and loves hunting, but has only had the chance to harvest one deer in her short career. Thankfully, we were both able to get cull bucks and she saw a ton of deer. HeII, I even got my hands on live hog while I was there, which was a bonus!
Special thanks to David Perkins and his soon to be wife Tammi (even though she is still waiting on the wedding), Kagan, Pete, and Kurt. You guys rock and are welcome at my place anytime. The hospitality was awesome, the ranch was great, and hopefully we made some friends for a lifetime! Can't wait to get you guys down here for a fishing trip, just make sure to bring me one of those yella dogs when you come!
Anyone looking for a great hunt needs to check them out! David can fix you up!

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Hogs gone wild. Now playing on discovery channel. Starring former board member

After episode #1, I wasn't sure it could get any worse. Then, episode #2 came out, and I needed prescription Rx to make it through the day from laughing so hard at these dumbarses. Now, after the 3rd episode, I have come to realize that the L3 Outdoors team should be arrested for false advertisement. How many ranch owners have been charged removal fees for a one hog outing? I mean really! - 4 people, 2 trucks, UTV's, dogs - that stuff cost money so you know he is charging for his services, but I am not impressed w/ the results.
Florida guys were doing well in my book until this episode. Not sure why they call Cajun a catch dog, becuse those yella dogs sure got the job done. That scene, made me think that pig was raised on that farm and released for the TV camera. The pig being used to the farm just stood there until the dogs got in his face.
Funny stuff!

I can tell you this hand - they can edit the dog out of a one mile run, but they can't edit out Josh!!!!!! That big ole' boy would have needed the sunrise to make his camera shot before catching his breath! LMAO!!!!!! You can take up for the L3 crew all you want, they make hog dogging look bad. She is all hyped up over the dog getting cut, then they play it down. PETA is going to love this!!!!

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: threat to kill dogs

Being a former deputy sheriff, I always try to use the "cooler head" approach. Obviously, this game came onto his property univited and left a note. I would surely make sometype of phone call to the sheriff department so a report is on file that this man has threatened your dogs w/ death. Then, and only then would I pursue anytype of conversation with the man.
I am a hot headed dago/coonass all in one. Some man come on my property and leave a note that he is going to kill my dogs...........uhm- Houston we have a problem! Just saying, make a report in case it escalates you have it documented and save the note!

Amen to that! A co-worker here has one and it was in my office yesterday. I was showing him how to use my e-collar he needs to borrow. The dog is 7 mos, weighs 117#, and lives inside. His wife is 4'7" and weighs 94#. The dog won't lead, so now they are looking at me to help "fix" him.

As stated by me in other post, as well as last week - absolutely HORRIBLE! This second episode is even worse for team L3 and I hope they save some grace and have the DC pull them from any further episodes. I mean, they drive their dog to the hog, and have to re-hab him with water so he doesn't croke on TV. The dog is big, but he is useless in my humble opinion. If I have to drive him, hold the spotlight, then "hope and pray" he doesn't have a heart attack, I just as soon ride around on my farm all night with a spotlight, rifle, and drink beer.
I understand they have to make it "entertaining" for TV, but they could have done the right thing for their sport and either turned down the Discovery Channel or insisted it air honestly. I think the young men in Florida are better for the sport than L3, because that crew makes us look bad. Maybe they need more "bling" in her outfit or reflective striping on their cute little shirts!

After the first episode, I was not real sure how the L3 crew could get much worse. I mean, I already made my comments about little Miss and her bling & pink knife, which I thought was tacky to say the least.
However, after Sunday's episode - I have reconsidered and realize that it is getting worse, everytime they put the cameras on L3 my whole family cringes - like, "what are they going to do/say now"! These people are so in to making their 15 minutes of fame, that they are not doing themselves or their dog any favors. Anyone else but me think that big old great dane is one hog away from a heart attack? That has got to be the worst shape I have seen a dog in after catching a hog in a long time. And he sure didn't have to run him far, they drove him right to the hog in the Mule! LMAO!!!! These people are a joke!!!!! I wish they had a blog on their website so we can tell them to pull the next episodes and save some face!
Also, did anyone else notice that the Aussie guy was in the pen tying a hog, while someone was poking the sow with a stick to make her move. It was only a split second, but we had it on DVR and it is clear as day. Just like I stated last week - staged for TV viewing.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Neighbors get an eyefull!
|
on: January 24, 2011, 10:19:12 am
|
Just have to share this w/ you guys, as its pretty funny! I live in southwest La, 80 miles from the Texas state line. We are flat, rice country, nothing more, nothing less. Our people are great, and I live in a neighborhood that was once rice fields, just 30 years ago. We are surrounded on 3 sides by at huge farming operation, that are friends of mine. Each homestead in on approximatley 1 acre and it is comprised of brickhomes, with a nice family environment. Now, that I have painted that picture for you, you can imagine that I am the only hog hunter in the neighborhood. But people love my cooking, and now that at anytime you can see me skinning a hog/deer, or cleaning fish.
Well, this past week I set a big trap on the farm and caught 11, 3 going over 100#'s, and 8 shoats. I roped and removed the big ones on Saturday w/ the help of my 2 boys, and left the 8 shoats in the trap to get them on Sunday when my two step sons would be able to help. I went home and cleaned 2, giving one to a friend I had promised one. The next morning we had a big breakfast and then loaded everyone up for the trip to the trap. We even had my little 3 y/o nephew in tow. It was great watching the kids catch the little ones, and quite comical, had a blast! We loaded all 8 into a large dog box I had and returned home to begin processing. The whole time we are heading home, the 3 y/o is saying he wanted to catch one. So, we get home, get a 25 lb shoat out the box and put the smallest pair of hobbles I had on the pig for him to chase it in the yard and grab it. That's where the plan went to crap!
We no sooner cut the pig loose and I see a hobble has slipped off one leg, then another, then another, then the chase was on! I hollered at my boys to cut the Jags loose as I sprinted around the front of my house. At this time, I need to let you guys know that I like to eat, and as much as I would like to sprint, I am not sure you can call my running a true "sprint". Anyway, luckily the dogs either saw me or the pig running and made quick work passing me on the way to stop the pig. We crossed two blacktop streets in the neighborhood and I can see clearly that this pig is heading for a large brick home with lots of cars parked there. It also had a huge group of people attending a family cookout complete with little kids on a trampoline!
You guessed it - the dogs stop the pig under the trampoline complete w/ 20 spectators. So now I have a squealing pig, and two dogs that look like they have rabies on some man's yard in broad daylight. All I could do was - "Excuse me,......sorry....excuse me.....I will be outta here in a minute sir...sorry!" type conversations while his guest screamed, thought it was going to be bad, but they laughed and they were all city slickers who thought it was cool seeing the little dogs catch the pig. Thought the law was going to come for a second, then realized they liked the show.
I immediaely went home and cleaned that little booger last night and he was so tender in that black iron pot!

After re reading my previous post, it read like I was saying Cward was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. I hope it isn't taken that way. The Cwards are good honest people who work hard for a living just like the rest of us. I didn't mean for them to seem like they are rich snots or something. I apologize if it came out wrong.
Cheers M
I didn't take it that way and have never met the people, so I think you are good! But, with the internet police on out patrol - better be safe than sorry!
