2  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Garmin problem. on: March 03, 2014, 01:44:50 pm
I had that problem a time or two.......wound up being the antenna was bad. I bought some long range ones from Conkey's and that solved it. You might also go into where the antenna attaches to the collar and clean all that really well....down to bare metal.....reattach and see is that helps.
3  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Trashing dog on: March 03, 2014, 01:39:46 pm
Don't understand why someone would rather hit a dog than shock him.... Takes way less effort... And you don't haveta get mad to do it. On top of that the biggest point is the dog doesn't lose trust in you because you beat em. U do it right it truly thinks the diller is shocking it. People that beat the hell outta there dogs without at least trying to shock first irk me. Only heard of one dog that literally didn't get the point with a shock and had to resort to beating it. If you use it right it's a wayyyy better solution. I think some people just like hitting dogs. I love my dogs. Rather not hit em
im with you

I'm with you both on this. And then folks wonder why their dogs won't come to them when they call them. Just don't understand it.
4  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Field 90 G3 EXP or the Pro 100 G3 EXP or the ??? on: September 09, 2013, 09:56:23 pm
Tri-Tronics Classic 70 G3 EXP...I think this is going to be it...found it pretty cheap...$267.00...but by time I get the holster and another collar it will be hurting my back pocket...  Shocked

I bought this unit with 2 collars back some months ago and really like it Reuben. It works very well for me, but I haven't had to try the range on it, says a mile and I don't doubt it. Tri-Tronics stuff is tough or has been for me. They have lithium-ion batteries now and last a long time, plus charge up in no time. I think you've made a wise decision....good luck with it.

Man that nest is huge,....no wonder they 'bout put you out of it. There's no telling how many were on it. Glad you survived and made it out alive......I hate yellow jackets!

9  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: garmin question on: August 18, 2013, 02:58:04 pm
.85 miles is pretty good range. I don't think you said but have you updated everything lately? I've had 40s since they first came out and I've only gotten 2 miles out of mine one time that I remember. Usually 700 to 800 yards is about it without using the long range antenna. I did however, get one of the telescoping/folding antennas and when extended it works almost as well as the long range one. Be sure to keep the connection clean where the antenna contacts the collar.
10  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Lost a Great Great Friend today ! on: August 08, 2013, 05:25:39 pm
Jimmy,....it's painful to lose such a close friend.....I was there about a year and a half ago. I don't have any magical words to make you feel better,....only know that I'll be praying for you and for his family.
11  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: I smell a RAT !!!! on: August 04, 2013, 05:12:11 pm
Glad he enjoyed it....just wait until you go on a rat killing and get over a hundred in all......he'll be REALLY excited then!
12  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: My First Mount on: August 04, 2013, 10:52:40 am
You might soak it in Acetone for awhile and get some of the yellowing out of it. You're right though,.....boiling is NOT the best way to remove the flesh from a skull. If you boil it too long the bone gets chalky and will flake off with you. Letting the bugs do it is better to me. Then soak it on Acetone to degrease it.
13  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: I smell a RAT !!!! on: August 04, 2013, 10:30:40 am
Very little in the outdoor world compares to a good 'rat killin'. Looks like y'all did a good job too.
14  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: VHF radio on: August 04, 2013, 10:28:42 am
We've used VHF radios for years,.....don't see how you can hunt with several people without them. Saves time, gas and makes it easier to keep track of your dogs. You can use some of the 'colored' channels if you wish, there's blue and red and another one or two. Most of us use Midland radios, they're not too expensive and seem to be pretty tough and you can get one for under $100. I strongly recommend that you get a 5 watt, which is the most you can get in a handheld. These claims they make about getting 5 miles out of a 1 watt radio are just that.....claims, it ain't gonna happen in real life. We used CB radios years ago, but by mid morning they were useless the 'skip' from wherever was so bad. If you do get radios and use them a bit, you'll wonder how you ever made it without them.......good luck.

That's funny Slim,....bet that hushes them up quick! I really like that idea you had Dinah,.....somebody needs to do that...really. Might cause quite a stir......you never know!
16  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Done lost my mind on: July 27, 2013, 03:10:39 pm
Hope she turns out to make you a good one dodgegirl, and I'd say there's a good chance she will. You'll hear all sorts of joking about hounds but they can and will still get the job done. I've had some Redbones way back when I coon hunted.....mighty good dogs too. One of my good hog hunting buddies has had some stem-winder redbones over the years. They were mouthy for sure but a hog had better get in gear the second that he heard them open the first time, because they would sure run him down and catch him if given half a chance. Good luck with her and keep us posted....she's a dang good lookin' little dog for sure.
17  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: ad i saw on craigslist... on: July 27, 2013, 02:43:16 pm
She said that the dog was wearing a 'hog collar'....soooooo if it was a hog collar, what was it doing on a dog? I guess she might have meant 'hog dog' collar, but that's not what the ad said. A lot of the 'people' call every dog that's not too old to walk a 'puppy'. I've also found it funny that the first thing they ask about a dog or cat or monkey, for that matter,......is "Oh... what's it's name?" I have hunted with folks for months before I knew their dog's names.....it's just not a big deal seems like to me, but the 'bark eaters' just have to know what your 'puppy's' name is. Weird people they are, just plain weird!
18  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Why don't.... on: July 27, 2013, 02:29:28 pm

19  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Personal on: July 27, 2013, 02:27:05 pm
Shame y'all didn't get on ole' biggun,......but maybe next time. He should be back around you would think. I trust that you're carrying something to give him a dose of lead if need be. I think you're smart enough to know that though. Good luck.
20  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Finally....FINALLY! Something worth posting on: July 17, 2013, 06:52:45 pm
Well y'all just showed out Dinah! I'm glad somebody is getting to hunt....not much of it going on here. I guess we could go at night but neither Alan or me like hunting hogs at night so we just have to wait on a cool morning. Glad y'all got a goodun and had some fun too. It sounds like your young dog has it figured out!
