3  NEWS AND UPDATES / TEXAS LAWS and BILLS / Insurance on: May 21, 2010, 09:34:08 am
This is FYI:

I am getting started in hog dogging and had knowledge beforehand about insurance co., and so called dangerous animals (dogs). This may not affect any of you but like I said FYI… In your homeowners policy (almost all if not all) it talks about dangerous breeds (dogs). The most common are pits and chows. It does not go into detail about the subject just that they are not allowed on the property. Therefore, I called my insurance company for more information on the subject and found that you can own a dangerous breed but you must sign a release of obligation with your insurance company. This takes the monkey off the insurances back if your dog bites someone. If you have a commercial policy forget about it – it will not happen. When asked what dogs are allowed – you give them the breed name and they will call you back. Dogo’s are allowed with my insurance.

I work with insurance companies all the time and have seen a no pay (House fire) due to the fact they had a dangerous animal (Pit) on the property. I have no clue how this would hold up in court but could take over a year to find out.

I 100% agree with you on more snakes this year…. As for what to do in the event you are bitten…. 1. Call 911 ASAP get an ambulance on the road to meet you so they can get a helicopter on the way (no joke)… 2. Do not elevate above level of heart… 3. No cutting or sucking… 4. Do not restrict blood flow… 5. You can ice the area of the bite… note pain level is going to be a 10… 6. You will need to know the type of snake…

Rattlesnakes being the worse type…

Snakebites are to be taken very serious life or death… I joke with the person I hunt with about him wearing shorts… Prevention is the best treatment…. Write down the location you are hunting and make sure everyone knows the location in the event of an emergence…

I am currently doing an article on the effects of feral hogs in Central Texas. In the article, I am highlighting hog dogging. I know that every sport has its rotten apples but it does not take long to notice that some hunters take the safety of the dogs to the next level. I feel that people who are not educated will look at this with negative ideas on the sport as a whole. I am not trying to belittle anyone - but people who dislike this type of hunting are looking for ammo.

Last year (Deer season), I shot a 75Ibs Boar… I told my dad I would cook the hog that night for supper thinking it would be good… My father informed me that the hog would stink and be no good… We all know how sons follow everything there fathers tell them… Put the hog on the pit and it looked good – 3 hours latter my god you could smell it a mile away (Skunk smell)… You would think as much corn they eat at feeders the meat would not be that bad – I was wrong… Now we kill them and leave them… However, buzzards seem to like them…
