1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Who works on Beep, Beep collars on: February 16, 2015, 11:29:07 am
As stated I need someone who works on tracking collars. These are Tracker brand collars. I've tried valley Creek, and Mike rivers.  Both folks don't work on these. I need to get several refurbished.
2  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Rough cow dogs on: January 20, 2015, 09:13:02 am
Judge My dogs are Bob owens, David Rigney, Ben jordan, clue Anderson, and chance ward bred.
I'd have to disagree with shadygrove.....Catching and gathering cows is better than hog hunting.

Where's the like button^^^^^^^^^
Here's a couple of videos from the other day.
First one they did nice. Not to much pressure and was able to get cows drove back where they came from.

This cow wanted to be hard headed, and she'd hunt you down. But she went back to the hole she came in with a little yella persuasion.
This is probably too rough for most, and normally I'd like em to just keep bayed till I get there.

The real bright shiny one is my pup out of Lisa.

Did momma kick you out and you have to dry them big boy britches on the dog box?

My Pup out of JoJo and Cowgirl. Half decent in several areas, but lacking in free cast as you may can tell by the picture. Lol  Cheesy

I sent ya 2.....I guess you culled the other alittle two early. He probably had all the free cast.  Evil Either that or you need to get a bigger stick. Grin

This is a dog out of Clue Andersons cowboy and a shives bred gyp. Nice dog, used on cattle...but don't let that fool will find and bay the hair off of a pig. Really nice nose, good hunt, only thing i don't like is if cattle bay real easy and nice he does get alittle bored, won't let them go...but not as solid with it as id like. I don't have as many "WILD feral" cows to play with and thats where his heart truely lies.

Allie out of a Ben Jordan male and Owens bred female. Starting out real nice. Has alot of want to. Figureing it out very quickly. Only thing is she and the other pups i have are ruff as a cob. haven't turned a catch dog loose this whole month, and haven't caught anything small. I can only hope they learn quick.

Aint his dogs, but i think a pic of Ben and Benie Jordon is due.
10  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Handling a Rally on: February 19, 2014, 08:59:56 pm
Monday afternoon my pups were on a solo hunt. Struck and bayed a group of 12. Couldn't have been more happier. I was by myself. Let them work for a good while then rode up there horseback as I had no catch dog. Decided I'd rope one. Rode around them hogs 5 or 6 times real tight, less than 5 yards. Drug out the rope, fixin to start my swing when the lead sow bolted. Them pups didn't give her nothing they caught her less than 75 yards. She did make it in the pond though. As she went under dogs came off, and when she came back up I roped her and drug her out. Flipped and tied by myself. I really wanted to rope, drag, and tie as many as I could. But I knew I had to get that one for the pups morale. I did watch the rest of the sounder as I rode over to the pond.....they just walked off like nothing ever happened.
11  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Alpha reviews on: December 12, 2013, 08:08:34 pm
I went from a 220/dc30's-long range antennea's on collars and handheld to the stock alpha.  It it neat in what it can do. I am using the regular antennea's it comes with which are suposed to be long range. I am not real happy with the range that i am getting. 1.2 is just about the best it will do, normally .8 is where it starts to really lose reception. If you can track the collar then the shock collar will work. The collars will beep. The shock and Beep part works fairly well for being an integrated unit. The collars do light up and you can see them very well. The Birds eye satillite image is pretty sweet. Easy to charge collars and unit. The only complaint i have is every now and then mine just turns itself off. When i turn it on it comes right back up and tracks collars. It is my fault for not calling garmin or sending unit back in, but it is very aggervating when i pull it out to correct a dog and its off. All in all a good unit. If your not going to use shock collar on a normal basis i say stick with the 220. I use the alpha beep on my cow dogs as a recall. It is very nice when their bayed on the wrong set of cattle in the wrong pasture
12  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Ranger or rhino? on: December 05, 2013, 03:56:39 pm
I can't say much for the rhinos. But tight fitting bucket seats ain't no good for a fat boy.
Rangers I personally like.
Quiet, you can fit 3 fat boys in the front seat, plenty of power( we ride around in low), wide, lots of room in bed, do need around 27 inch tires to help em out a little. Just a good workhorse.

14  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: smithville cow dog trials on: October 05, 2013, 07:57:49 pm
I am dissapointed. Was gonna compete this year. T-Bob i have been think about trying to put one on, but i do not have to facilities to acommodate everyone. 2 years ago they had one in Carthage i went to. It was done alittle different than smithville but might could use the place to host another one.

Keep after em.
16  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Garmin Alpha GPS collar on: August 20, 2013, 08:32:00 pm
I've been using the alpha now for a while. The shock collar works nicely. Well done. I do have trouble with loading dogs around 700 yards and I have to get back within 400 yards or so to pick them back up. I probably need to run a update but my computers so old it wont let me do it. To me the handheld and collars do eat a lot of battery. But overall a nice unit.
17  THE CLASSIFIEDS / CLASSIFIED ADS / Garmin Astro 220 and 3 DC30 collars on: June 14, 2013, 08:44:41 am
I bought the Alpha so i am going to sell my old system. Its a 220 with 3 DC30 collars. I have long range antennas on 2 collars, the handheld has a texas map card with it, 3 collar wall chargers. The collar on the left without long range antenna does not work....it needs to be sent into garmin and for $90 the send you a new one. Works Great....Package deal will NOT separate.....$450 Pick up only...Cash money....NO Trades.

Thinking I might make the plunge. My question is how strong is the shock collar. Is it like the old trashbreakers tuat would really light up a stubborn dog, or is it more like a cheaper brand like innotek....that won't phase a mule headed son of a gun.aka my blackmouths that, are supposed to be baying cows but instead are a mile over yonder baying a pig.
19  THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / Strike dogs. Sold thanks ETHD on: May 22, 2013, 04:30:50 pm
Selling 2 dogs. 1 is a 4yr old male, the other is a 3yr old female. Both are BMC's. The only reason I am selling is I am changing the way I hunt. I am not going to cast hunt anymore. I need shorter ranged dogs so I can hunt some of these smaller places. I have a whole bunch of pups that I am ready to really concentrate on and wont be hunting them with these two dogs. These are my only 2 dogs I use while hunting. Turn em out and they will find you hogs. Loose bay, very LONG range, will stick with one, bay sounders. These two hunt very well together, and will make every step with each other. They male will open up first 99% of the time, but they are right together. The female normal won't grab with CD and male will but won't lock down. These are my main and only "hog dogs". I have thought long and hard about this. Will not seperate. Please no tire kickers, and not a million text. If you want to know about these dogs call me. $3500 for the pair. Will not give a trail. Will gladly take you hunting with me.
