5  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Cut Vest for Dog Attacks on: July 15, 2014, 09:36:48 am
Are the neighborhood dogs loose ?
Also how old is your dog ?
I'm not seeing a dog just flat out going to tear your dog up if its a mastiff cross

Also if the other dogs are on leashes walking too , then go to the other side of road
6  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Replacing a good bulldog on: July 09, 2014, 09:47:41 pm
You will always hear people say bulldogs are a dime a dozen ...... Ya there are but good bulldogs are few an far between ,
I got lucky an got a pretty good one from a lady that Said he was to hyper for her

But I raised a pup that I just started out of some good bred APBT an I have had her on 3 hogs in the woods so far an she is doing great

I let mine see a little pig around 6 months then don't worry about them seeing a hog till they are a year , I get there handling riding in the box , all the noise, vest an everything eles they need to know about done before I take them to woods , that way when you get to woods an they hear dogs that they been playing with oh the yard an stuff barking they are going to go see what the heck they barking at an they are not worried about briars or vest or nothing they have seen it already they run right in an see the hog an go to work
I usually send them the first time about 5 seconds behind a grown catch dog just to make sure they will be able to follow an the hog should be getting caught right as the pup is getting there
Not saying this is right or wrong just the way I do it ,

Also a good bred bulldog is worth it's weight in gold , one that you can depend on hot cold rain or shine that has been bred to work for generations , it will prolly cost you but it will be worth it to have a durable hard working catch dog that will be ready to go to work in any conditions
7  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Stopping a running hog? on: July 02, 2014, 12:14:08 pm
I agree with texas hog dogger you got to have the right dog that's willing to get hammered on over and over and not quit. your dogs can hold and fight a big hog from the start because they have the energy and the strenghth but if you run that hog until his lungs are about to explode don't you think your dogs lung are in the same shape that's why I hunt rough dogs that everybody  says are suicidle  that's why i don't hane many runners when i do ive already had my but handed to me.

No I don't think my dogs lungs are same way as the hogs ...... Seen it to many times get on a runner run him forever bay him
Up catch him an my dog rolls out an jumps on another , so if he was just plum wore out then he dang sure wouldn't of been able to run another hog right ??

The thought that a dog barking will scare game off is a lack of knowledge and experience.

15  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Bulldogs on: May 07, 2014, 07:34:33 am
Most missed catches I have seen are result of Briars , water , cliffs things like that that the catch dog gets almost to hog an gets hung up for a second or 2 then the hog knows there is another dog coming , also it depends on how far away you turn your bulldog loose
Closer is better most hogs I have noticed that break have been on long turn outs
If you get up close 20-40 yards they tend not to break as much

Unless your bay dogs hear you coming an start getting rough because they know catch dog coming , this will break bays,

I run open dogs so I don't like bay breaking at all , because my catch dog will follow them or go catch his own so not good in summer ,
I would say the guys I hunt with catch 75% or better on the first attempt
Also I run loose bay dogs too ,

17  THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / Tater blood gyp an plottX english male dog on: April 15, 2014, 09:02:54 pm
I am selling lightly started  tater blood gyp she was a year in February I believe ,
She was a slow starter been on about 8 in the woods so lightly started ,
Getting the idea what a bay is an bays tight good looking dog , if you don't know what tater blood is use the search an look it up
Asking $350
Not really wanting to give trail on this dog because she has only been to woods like twice but she knows what hog is an if you got one I will show you her on it

Plott male dog year an half or so old , OPEN on track so don't ask me if he silent
He will catch small hogs but bays big ones , can't say for sure if he struck his own because he is hunted with some sure enough strike dogs , but he will trail with them an go to bay ,
He stays busy in woods not real trashy but if another dog trash I'm sure he will join them , haven't hunted him with trashy dogs so he hasn't had much chance to trash
He has mostly been hunted in the daylight I noticed the other day when it got dark he didn't range out as far ,
He is short range till they get on one , we road an hood hunt so that's what he use too he's been roaded mostly

He is a good started dog I had him up for sale before no one bought him so I hunted him more so price went up because the light clicked an he knows he supposed to be hunting hogs now

$650

The plott can go on trial or I can bring him an show him hunt ,
If on trial an get him cut up you bought him , I have has to staple him up

Only reason I'm selling these dogs , is I have new baby an working 6 days a week an not going to get them the time they need , I am only keeping my main strike dog an catch dogs

NO I WILL NOT MEET YOU AN NO I DO NOT WANT TO TRADE FOR ANYTHIHG
