Just wondering how far everyone else can track with their alphas? I can't track over a mile with mine. My old 320 and 220 would pick up 2-3 miles.

13  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: HOUNDS! on: February 06, 2015, 05:51:24 pm
I've hunted several and all liked hogs better than treeing. If I was going to hunt a walker that's the ones I would want. They fast, have a good nose and gritty enough to stop one. Pretty easy on the eyes also and that always helps Smiley

15  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Garden-corn ???? on: June 09, 2014, 09:11:32 pm
After the rain and wind storm we had today about all that's still standing of my corn are the two rows of corn I topped to experiment with. Wishing I had topped it all now. I may have found something i may do from now on if it produces just to keep the wind from blowing it all down.
16  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Garden-corn ???? on: June 08, 2014, 04:57:32 pm
Went past a mans house last week and saw him cutting the tops off all of his corn stalks right above the ears. Just wondering if any of you folks ever seen this done? I been around folks growing corn my whole life and that's a first for me. I cut 2 out of 7 of my rows gonna see if the corn grows any bigger on the ones I cut.
17  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Newby question on using hounds. on: April 21, 2014, 09:19:02 pm
It's good to do if you don't have cold nose curs. Took me years to get curs with cold noses. I used to always keep a Plott to get a cold track going around here. Now I just hunt yellers Smiley

19  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Breaking a bad habit on: April 21, 2014, 09:05:43 pm
I clip my dogs k9s around here also if the dog doesn't have since enough to use them they loose them Smiley Hurts the hog a lot less than the dog.
20  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Breaking a bad habit on: April 21, 2014, 09:01:29 pm
A pair of side cutters work just fine.  Do it close to the other teeth to make em even, and it's just like about said, no damage.  It doesn't hurt em, but do it quick, cuz they don't like their mouth opened up for all that for long.  Dog feed will polish em on off and make em smooth, they'll be jagged when it first happens.
x2.          Sure hurts the hog worse than the dog. I would cut them. No k9s around my place if they don't have since enough to use them.
