That is really a neat old picture. To me it looks like those two dogs were pit bull terriers , the good ones.

The pup I got from Stacy off this cross is doing really well, she has a lot of personality and no fear of anything. She reminds me of ol Tank in many ways. I am sure she is going to make a hand when she gets old enough to go. The Tank X Jenna cross has been exceptional every time it has been made. Most start early and have that burning desire to hunt. I also have Lippy who is a sister to Midas (the pups) sire. She has been a good producer and is a pretty fair cow dog.

The Rathkes Reno dogs that I have had the pleasure to have, all want to work at a fairly young age. Many of Tanks pups have a hound like nose and an very independent nature. I have been very pleased with them and I am positive this cross will produce the same type.

They type of yellow dogs you are referring to are out there, but most of the men and ladies who have these dogs are not much into selling puppies or dogs. One of the biggest reasons you do not see their names much or their dogs/puppies for sale is that it is to much trouble. I cant and wont garuntee you that if you get a pup from me he will be a hog finding/cattle working fool at a year old. I have no idea how you might raise and treat that pup for the year that you had him. Most people who are just getting into hunting/working these yellow dogs do not really understand their personality or the "cur dog wierdness "of many lines and expect them to be like hounds, who genarally will work for anyone who will take them out. If a person is not willing to learn about the breed and understand them then I would recommend you chose something else to hunt.

For the people who have the type of dogs you are lookig for it's not about how many hogs they can catch in a weekend, it's about the breed and preserving their working ability and style; in my opinion. Good luck with your quest for finding the dogs your are looking for.
7  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Clue's Cowboy offspring on: October 02, 2012, 08:25:01 pm
I have a male off Cowboy and Clues Sue gyp who is making a dog, his name is Tyson a black and tan. He is 16 months old and making a hand for sure. I also bred the last gyp to Cowboy before he passed, clue has a pair and the rest are with myself and close friends. They just turned a year old and seem to be headed down the right path. Ol Cowboy was not only a class act as a cattle dog but was very prepotent .
8  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Made a trip to Ben's on: August 27, 2012, 12:23:18 pm
Clue had emailed me the other day about you and Skoal going up to breed to the Big John dog. Last fall when Doc and I went to visit Ben we looked at that dog and were mighty impressed. Doc and I both said we hoped to either get the chance to breed something to him or that someone we knew would take a gyp to him. I will bet you and David get some stem winders out of that cross.

That sure is a fine looking gyp that Ben has up there off Cowboy X Sarah. He told me this when I asked about her "Son thats way to much dog for an old man" for him to say that she has to be something special.

I know the ones Makemsqueel on the board has are top notch, and super easy to handle. I have been watching them for about a year and was impressed enough to try one of their pups. They are import dogs from PPC .

12  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Mike, Lion and Boar Hunter, Cward, Bigo, Bryant, Kevin Adkins... on: July 21, 2012, 12:08:17 pm
I have to say Big O's Dot was the best I have ever followed, his son Jim Bob  had a little gyp named Ellie that was pretty awesome in her own right. I believe she was Bennie Cowart, and some of the same dogs Dot was out of.
13  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Game bred pits on: March 21, 2012, 07:34:03 pm
The difference to me is that you are talking about a dog that was bred to have natural air,and is an athlete out of the box vs. dogs many people have come up with based on color, head size ect.... When I am talking about game bred I am talking about a dog that was at least out of parents that were used and proven not the ones that have one proven dog three or four generations back.

This is just my opinion, but I spent alot of my life around the type of dogs I am referring to. So to answer your question I believe even though you are considering crossing two seperate breeds I would look for the best specimans that I could find in each breed.
14  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: BMC info on: March 02, 2012, 04:55:47 pm
I do not know Mark personally, but he has a young dog out of one of my gyps and Bob Cox's Sam dog. I do know he hunts his dogs and has some good ones. That Slick dog is the real deal according to Bob Cox.
15  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Another linebreeding question... on: January 13, 2012, 05:29:32 pm
I would have to look at what Ben and Molly were before I made the cross back to them with either Pluto or Missy. If the original two dogs were complete out crosses MAYBE, I would not breed Pluto to Missy that would be to tight for my taste. THis is just my opinion; which that and a dollar might get you a cup of coffee.

Sure nuff a good hog , I hate to hear about Ben's loss, but I sure enjoy  hearing how well those young dogs did. You have to be proud of them.

Good looking rascals, I am sure they will do a good job for you when they grow up.
20  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: BMC ? on: December 22, 2011, 06:02:28 pm
Doc I agree with what you are saying as well as BJ. When we make a breeding I first look for that natural desire to work/hunt,second I want one to work stock the way a BMC should, third I want a dog to have natural wind and be naturally tough, fourth a good nose, fifth a mouth that carries and is nice to hear, then maybe I will get around to thinking about color.Bottom line though is a man/woman should feed what they like.
