1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Dog box for trailer on: January 18, 2014, 04:12:42 pm
I bought a new 2014 Teryx to hunt out of and it is wider than my rhino so I had to build a new box.  I was thinking about putting one door on the end and putting all my dogs together. Has anyone ever done this and if so how did it work.

I was also thinking about running some rolled stock across the box about 4" of the bottom so each dog( 4 )would be forced to their own area.

I am wanting to unload my dogs without having to unload the Teryx when I get home.

If I do put dividers in it I am going to 4"by4" weld panel.  Any issues with that.

Any advice would be appreciated.

2  THE CLASSIFIEDS / CLASSIFIED ADS / 6 hole Polaris ranger dog box. on: May 07, 2013, 01:14:46 pm
A well built 6 hole dog box.  This box was custom built just for a polaris ranger.  Asking $800.  Box is located in northwest arkansas.  If interested text me at 479-640-8702 and I will text you some pictures.
3  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Need Info on GoPro! on: April 08, 2013, 01:35:00 pm
I have one and used it a few times over the course of a year. I don't like it at all for hog hunting videos. Yes, it shoots with great clarity but everything looks a lot farther away (has no zoom feature). For instance say your watching a bay at 50 yards away and you can see it clear as day with your eyes but you get home and watch your video and you can't see crap because it looks like it was 150 yards away. It is good for up close videos in the woods. The sound sucks even with the open case. Everything shot looks like its shot through a bubble. I personally feel like I wasted my money on it. I am still trying to find another camera with similar hands free mounting options that shoots better video or should I say shoots better video in the woods.

This is a very accurate review.  Same issues with mine.  Get one of the others for just recording while hog hunting.
4  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Tracking collar attached to cut collar on: February 18, 2013, 06:33:07 pm
I got you on the loops. I've got five and they all go through the loops and I try to leave them in there when I remove the collars.

What frustrates me is the fact that the buckles in the cut collar are always in the way when trying to tighten the tracker.  The tracker is hard to get tight in the cut collar because you have to compress the cut collar to the tracking collar tight.

I don't know how I'm going to do it yet but I'll have a DC 40 mount to wild boar cut collar shortly.

Do any of you guys attach your garmin collars directly to your cut collars. I was thinking it would be a lot easier if it was a packet deal.

I'm thinking about riveting a short section of nylon collar with tracker to the cut collar.

What are you thoughts? If you've done it how did you do it.  Thanks for the help

Happy huntin

I run the Swamp Dog Bay Bikini.  It is thin, flexible and light.  I thought it was too weak when I got it also but It has held up and never rubbed my dog.  I think I like it.

I forgot to add this.  It wouldn't worry me too much but it has a rough texture to it.  Not dry or scabby.  Just swollen kinda.

10  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / BMC Pup with Black spot on tail on: January 11, 2013, 12:42:44 pm
I have a 3 month old pup with a black spot on her tail about half way down it.  It is a little rough.  It was very faint when she was younger but is getting for noticeable.   I'll post a picture.

Is this normal or is some wrong?

Thanks

[This country has too much whining in it now. Listen we don't care if you don't Barr hogs. We understand why and actually support it, but it is un-American to be upset about a tradition we have been carrying on that is older than dirt. Don't be mad because we catch and cut hogs, accept the fact that it's something that was going on long before most of y'all even knew what a hog was.]

Good point.  It does not effect me one way or another what yall do with your hogs.  I will kill hogs because that is what the landowner wants me to do. I will drag them out regardless if I know someone that wants them or needs one.  I will not break my back on a hog if I don't have somewhere to go with it. I've been burnt on that too many times.

Your in woods doing what you love so do whatever makes you happy.

Full blood.  Short range hunts hard and good nose. Good personality and gets along with every dog he's met.   Downfalls for me- he is large and hyper.  He is straight catch no bark.  Hard headed

Ive got one dog that runs back to the truck, one that goes just out of sight, and another that immediately catches.   I always try to start calling them in as soon as you shoot.   Let them know everything is alright.
20  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Gritty dog needs to back up on: October 30, 2012, 12:23:31 pm
I have a three year old BMC male dog that wants to catch. He is real gritty but can't hold one or fight real well because he only has 3 legs.  He lost one to nerve damage from a big boar.  I don't have any rough dogs and dont intend to.  I guess the problem is its my wife's favorite dog and he is not going anywhere.  No that your have the back ground so every reply isn't " Send him to my house".

I have a large sow in the pen.   I have tried putting him on a long line and giving him enough rope to get close but not catch. It seemed to work for a while.   Can I use that technique in conjunction with shock therapy.  Has anyone tried this?

I am open to any idea.  I know he won't last long the way he is acting now.   Remember this is a 3 legged tripod of my wife's.

Thanks for the help.
