HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Hog dog lingo?!

Roll out means they left from a hog that they were baying, soon as the cd hits or shortly after to go find and bay hogs that left when the cd hit or some long range dogs will just leave the bay a get gone to find another hog somewhere. Most rough dogs just want to stand around a caught hog and chew it up. I can't stand for a dog to do that. If they don't roll out they better get somewhere And shut up.

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Best way to start young pups?!

I just let mine run loose and run what ever they want. Rather it be deer rabbits hogs etc etc. Every now and then I'll let them bay in a pen with an older loose baying dog but I don't put them in a pen much. When they get bout 8 months old I'll start hunting them with a older dog that's going good. After bout two or three good hog hunting trips I start breaking them off of trash. Prolly not the best way but i think it makes the pups more independent because I'm not always around when they are hunting...

No offense taking. Didn't mean to get off topic just saw something close to home... I don't post much just get on here and read And look. Have y'all caught a three legged spotted Barr out of there? I cut him last day of the season when they stopped the dogs not far from the theatre. He was a good sob with dam good teeth. Glad he didn't have four legs cuz he probably would have put me out of commission. He's got a c cut out of both ears on the out side of them close to the top.

Easy on that younger feller stuff. I'm only 24. Lol. I've never killed a boar hog. Cut every one I catch unless he got alot of good blood and most of the time I'll cut him too. Every now and then ill take a guilt out for the pit but mostly only take out barrs. It's not how old you are it's how you were raised. I've seen older folks just as sorry as the younger generation.

I know exactly what you mean. I had a spot on low water bridge I hunted for years. It was small but I never had a problem cuz I walked every time my dogs got off it and never cut any fences. The ol man knew I got on his property several times but he just told me not to cut the fence and to cut every boar hog I could. Lil while later a lot of people found out how many hogs were there and started slipping in there and cuttin fences cuz their too lazy to walk. I went told the old man what was gong on and I never went back over there. People like that F up alot of stuff for honest people.

When the government was open for dogs I wound up in the theatre more times than I can count. I guess your the only person happy that they stopped the dogs in the government.

I have some pics of my dogs but hardly any with them baying or catching hogs. I can't seem to get any pics of my cur dogs baying with out breaking the hog and after I send my catch dog im making sure my dogs roll out and trying to get my bull dogs off and forget to take pics. My hats off to all you that get action pics. Most of my pics are only barrs hanging or getting them out. I don't take any hogs out of the woods besides barrs or maybe a fat sow if I need the meat.

We have alot of barrs around where I live. Some of them have no run or fight in them, some of them have alot of fight and very lil run, and some of them have both. I think most of them that run and fight have been caught with dogs before and Remember what happened the first time they were caught with dogs. It just depends on the hog. I bayed a Barr last year that would not run at all. He was standing in the middle of a road and the dogs were in the thicket. Every time a dog would come out he'd just run over them. He broke every rib in my old gyp and killed her. And bars don't have boar hog smell they smell like sows.

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: What was your oldest dog?

I had a male cat. that died at 14 but not from old age. He was straight catch, would not hunt at all and would not go to a bay till he saw the hog. It was great not having to lead a catch dog. I bayed a boar hog right behind the house and he followed me out there and went to baying. I was thinking dam it took 14 years for him to learn how to bay and then he saw me and tried to catch with no teeth. He didn't make it threw it but at least that old fart died doing what he loved. RIP. DJ
