HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Starting over---Careers

The fact is 90% of people going to work don't like the job. Remember the saying find something you really like and will never have to go to work a day in your life. I'm sure you've heard a number of rag to riches story but 1 that come to mind is Myer -Robinson. The man started this company when he was 62 and was a millionare by 67. He used the Ross Perot motto " find a void and fill it" I was in sales my entire career and I got tired of depending on the back office for support. I mean I could bring the business in but we would lose it out the backdoor. I decided to head into a entire diffrent industry "transportation" or some call logistics . They took a look at my resume and said I would be great at sales. I told them no more traveling, knocking on doors, cold calling what else do you have? Dispatcher which pays 1/3 of what they were offering as a sales rmgr. I took the pay cut with 4 days on 3 off. Within six months 2 promotions and a nice raise. It was'nt all me I just happen to take a chance at the right time. Let me add you're still a young man with plenty of upside so take a chance and don't look back. My 2 Good Luck

It's hard to say how many hogs to use but I don't think it helps the dog use it's nose. When I pull up the dogs can see the hogs from the truck. One time I got a pup ran over by a bunch hogs which could have ended up bad. It's great on teaching a dog the correct way to catch.

I'm using a guys land for the same thing. He's charging me .65 per pound if I tear the hog up. One big downside is that he has to many hogs. They all run to a corner and face the dogs as group. It's great work for a CD but that's about it IMO

I had something similar like that happen to me. I ran up on 6 Jamaicans that were into some voodoo stuff. These guys were sacrificing a cow and drinking blood. All I could do was put a dip in my mouth and give them the Clint Eastwood stare. Its a scary situation to be in.

Tmatt, I'm not doubting the fact that you can show me pits that can perform in the heat. When I say the dogo is much more I'm speaking of overall temperment the ablity to turn off the switch and to be able to hunt in silence with the pack. The ablity to come into The house and be socialable with family, and friends. The Dogo is a laid back dog which doesn't bark often and hardliy runs to the door when it rings. I say this b/c it all depends on what you're looking for out of your dog. I will give up not hunting in the heat to have something that the family feels safe around. I'm not bashing Pitts or any other breed.
Big Chris, There are some guys in the states that breed and hunt the dogo and they do a good job at it. As far as the price well there some people that are just willing to pay big money for a all white exotic dog. The bad thing is that they will breed them not having clue on what there doing and more people will buy.

I'm 100% die hard dogo man. That being said the dogo is more then just dog jmo. The only reason to cross a dogo would be to cut down on the health issues that Dogos are known for due the pigmentation or lack of. Dogos cull just like APBT do. It's just a more expensive cull. IMO you have to get a dogo from working parents and owners. The APBT has more energy/stamina then the Dogo and takes longer to get turned on to hogs then the APBT. My2

I only deal with papers. It helps keep my options open. If the dog want hunt send him to the show ring. Can't show them or reg. them without papers. If you're selling dogs the first thing a buyer ask you for is papers just to get a lower price. At least that's how it is up north. Jmo

Once upon a time, a Prince asked a beautiful Princess Will you marry me? The Princess said NO And the Prince lived happily ever after and he rode horses and dated skinny girls and hunted hogs and rasied dogs and went to bars and dated women half his age and drank wiskey, beer and Captain Morgan and never heard complaining and never paid child support or alimony and ate steaks and kept his house and guns and never got cheated on while he was at work and all his friends and family thought he was cool and he had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up ..... The end

Sounds like you got some good advice. I would take a look at silverton post about hauling one of the horses away and taking a ride. Get the horse out of it's comfy zone so it has to depend on you. My .02
