HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Mr Bennett...... And other people that hood hunt. Got a ?

Best to dump a young dog from the box to several hogs so it knows what a hog is and what they are looking for before putting them on the hood. I also like to have the pups a little bit trash broke before I ever introduce to the hood. To many critters cross the roads to have a pup that wants to run everything in site on the hood. Plus I believe it can set a pup back drastically if he comes off the hood on trash and is corrected for the trash. Seems like he associates the correction with the hood. Once my pups have an idea of what they are hunting I will start putting them on the hood. I will not over do it though. Always like to put them in hog country. Dont want a fresh pup to ride for hours on the hood with out getting on a hog and get bored with it. I never tie my dogs on the hood. I believe this is a good way to get a yound dog opening its mouth from the hood, or barking when going to a bay. Patients is the key. Some will never ride like I prefer, but most will ride in some form. 95% of my hunting is from the hood at night and has been for the last 15 years. This is only my opinion and some probably will not agree with me, but it has worked for me and has turned some nice hood dogs this way.

the line I have hunted for about the last 15 years are as you described. Thick, stocky, with big chuckle bulldog heads. Medium range, with lots of grit. We run them mostly off of the hood and are trying to keep the line alive. They wont suit everyone, but they sure suit a lot of us whom hunt them. Will try to get some pics when I get home monday.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: the buying stations

I dont know who you sell to, but I talk to the guys at the plants on weekly basis and they are stacked with hogs!! That is the reason SWG stations have also been shutdown for over 2 weeks now. Yes every year they do shut down for a few days to get head count, but this is more than that.

I have a buying station here in Oklahoma for one of the slaughter houses and have been shutdown for 30 days now. One of the 3 plants are closing their doors for good, and the other 2 have an abundance of hogs, and shipping is at a hault as already said. The market is not looking good for the future. They are telling me the prices are going to be cut drastically when they re-open. Whenever that may be>

Baytril for cattle. 1cc under the skin for 5 days. Same stuff as the pills the vet will give you for a dog, but about a tenth the price. Still a little more costly than pen but dang sure will kick the infection.

Well Halfbreed, if you are talking about my post I am actually in the good ole state of Oklahoma. But Im not far from the Texas line and I am willing to travel for a big load of good healty hogs and work with everyone the best I can. I would like to get all the business I can and I will do my best to keep the prices as fair as possible. Im not doing this to get rich, just do it to help support my bad habit of running these yella dogs!

As of right now yes....50.cents for anything 60 pounds and up. I know most think the big hogs are worth more, but we are just trying to help everyone out with the smaller hogs. We are making nothing on the small end. If it would be better we can drop the smaller end back down to .25 cents. LOL JK.

Coming 2 leggy yellow male. Started. Knows what a hog is and will go find one, but not trash broke. Will still bump a deer, coyote and some small game. This dog has the tools and wants to use them, I just have to many to do him justince. Hunts out real good on ground, but I mostly hood hunt. Out of some good blood. Goes back to Barton blood, Strike, BoxCar. next is a 8-9 month yellow female. Never seen a hog. Just bought her mom back and she came with the package. I already have 2 pups to start or I would keep her. Real good acting pup. Has a scar on sider of her muzzle that makes her a little hair lipped. Should be a rough kinda female. Her dad goes back to Box Car, her mom is straight from Jerral Bartons dogs. Top hood dog lines top and bottom. Both of these have the blood behind them to make top dogs, just need a chance and they are not getting it here. Come from top hog dog blood top and bottom.
