HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / New prospect. Cat/GSP cross.
|
on: August 31, 2014, 11:54:34 pm
|
Picked me up a free pup from an accidental breeding. Dad is cat, momma is a gsp. Dad is one of the best bay dog ive hunted behind. He has won or placed in several bayings, but will also find them in the woods. Momma has legs for days and has found many hogs herself and doesn't know the word quit. Hoping this cross brings out the best in them both. This little gril already seems to have more smarts than most of my other dogs. Got high hopes for this one. Anyone else hunted a cat/gsp cross?

Ive got one of those shadows as well. He is 3.5yrs old and he wants to do everything daddy does, be it good or bad. Ive got one ten week old pup I kept out of a litter I had. And I told my boy that was his pup and it was his job to take care of her. I can guarantee you that pup is now 110% kid-proof. My boy wants to put his pup on a lead every time we go out in the yard. Ive never lead broke a pup as fast as my boy has done. He's got a great handle on his pup, and does a pretty good job already with the older dogs.
Nothing much cooler than watchin your boy picking upnon the things that you yourself love to do!!

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Serious question for the Florida folk on here!

Thanks for the responses everyone. Sounds like I will stock up before I go. If I buy a roll here at the indian smoke shops it'll cost me bout $3 a can. I figured it'd be cheaper up here, just thought I would l ask.
CajunL. I used to smoke and dip. One day I decided to set a date to quit smoking cold turkey and did it no problem. That was 4 yrs ago and now I can't stand the smell of cigarettes. I have now set a date to quit dipping. July 5TH. I imagine I'll be a grumpy sob for a few days, but once I set a goal for myself, I see it through. Can't wait for it!!

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Another more serious question for Florida folk, or gulf coast folk in general
|
on: June 10, 2014, 12:13:29 am

Like I said in my last post I'm headed to Seagrove Beach FL for a week long getaway. I'd love to get in some fishing while I am down there, but I can't afford the 400-600$ 4hr charter trips that seem to be the norm down there. Can there be any successful fishing just wading out in the surf and casting a rod? I've only fished the gulf once, and that was off the pier at Matagorda Bay, using live shrimp for bait, and we managed to catch a little bit of everything. What kind of tackle set up would be good for this? I've got anything from light crappie rigs to some heavy duty catfish setups. I'm not looking to catch Jaws or anything, just looking for an oppurtunity to try a new type of fishing. Any input here is appreciated. Thanks.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Serious question for the Florida folk on here!

This Saturday, I'm headed from Oklahoma to Seagrove Beach Fla for a week. My question is, does anyone know what a can of wintergreen Copenhagen goes for down there?? I've looked it up online, but haven't been able to find anything. Being Seagrove is between the tourist traps of Destin and Panama, I'm guessing everything is going to be high down there. Just wondering if I should stock up before I go, or just get it down there.

Ive only hunted around eufala once. Id say that There is a fair amount of hogs round there. Dont know if I'd go as far to say that there is a lot. Might hit up bayed hard hog dogs, as that's close to his stompin grounds. Its about an hour and a half for me, but if ya go and need a hand and some rough yeller dogs give me a shout.

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / my first accidental breeding!
|

Well I'm not super stoked about this breeding, but what is done is done. I imagine most in the dog game for any time have had this happen, but its a first for me. I came home from work a few months ago and my only male had slipped his chain and was in the pen with my female in heat. When I got home she was having nothing to do with him mounting her, but who knows how long he was in there. He crossed 5ft panels topped with hot wire, so it must have been some good stuff! Daddy is a rough as they come BMC, and momma is a straight up stand back and bay not rough at all Bmc/cat cross. Who knows what these pups will turn out like. And just my luck she had 11 of them. 7fm and 4m. I'm keeping one fm the rest are free to anyone that wants one. Easter sunday born. 5 days old Two wks old. Daddy Momma

Shoot, every time my wife gripes about the cost of a grocery shopping trip to walmart, I remind her of the horses we have housed at her parents house and what we spend feeding them. When she balks at that, I remind her that the dogs are next. I'm a firm believer that with enough tobasco or sriracha, anything can taste halfway good!!
Lol! Of course I'm only halfway kidding!! But guarantee you if need ever be my good hunting horse would become a good dinner!!

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Destin Florida area
|
on: March 04, 2014, 11:51:07 pm
|
Well I was informed today that I will be spending a week in the middle of June in Seagrove Beach Florida. My mother has rented a beach house for her, me my wife and kids, and my sister, her husband and her kids. While I personally would rather vacation somewhere with mountains, I'm certainly not gonna turn down a most expenses paid trip to the beach.
Anyone here ever vacationed around that area? Are there any kind of must see or must do adventures. I've been on the interweb all night looking it up and my plan so far consists of sitting on the beach drinking cold beer and gorging myself on fresh seafood(something severely amiss in NE OK). I'm particularly interested in any type of outdoorsy type activities. Looking on a map I see there is a lot of Nat'l forest area near by, but not sure what that offers. I've already spent plenty of time looking at fishing trips in that area and I am sure I will get in on some of that. And obviously, without question I am wondering if there are any hog hunting oppurtunities nearby.
I've never been down that part of the country and was just looking to see if anyone here has and what they have to say about it. Thanks.

Looks good! My only suggestion would be to drop down to either 3/4 or 1/2 in square tubing. My first truck box I built with 1in, and it is a heavy mother. I built almost the same box for a friend but used 1/2 in, and there was a considerable weight difference, and it was still more than strong enough. A little bit of weight savings is a big deal on a utv. Just something to consider.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: How far North

Ive hunted hogs in northern OK, not far from the KS border. There are hogs in ks, but not too kany from my understanding. But could you imagine how the hogs could grow in the corn crop lands of Nebraska and Iowa. Could make for some monster hogs.

"Where are you located???"
Well dipchit had you read the ad, the last line says where it is located. I see this one on a daily basis in all the group for sale pages on FB.
The one that chaps me when I am trying to sell anything, I always put "call me" and leave my phone # then of course my texts starts blowing up. Hey people I said call me not text me. I can answer more in a 30 second phone call than I can in ten texts and this drives me crazy.

Pretty slick set up Jimmy. Them coyotes best watch out. The only thing that could possibly make it any nicer would be be to have the doors remotely opened from inside the cab of the truck. How cool would that be?!! Imagine just cruising the pasture, see a coyote, hit a switch and the race is on!! Looks good!

Not sure if they make any specifically fit a grinder, but they may. I work at a auto body shop and the buffers we use look like big grinders, but are variable speed and made just for buffing. They have a velcro pad on the end of the arbor to interchange between various foam or wool pads used for buffing. I just through grinder out there for a reference. You might try any place that sells automotive paints and supplies to see if they have a foam pad that might adapt to a grinder. I reallly don't know if the arbor sizes are the same or not.
