1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: craziest place you have ever caught a hog in on: March 10, 2011, 11:46:43 pm
Caught 1 on a lake in Fl that had houses all around it when they jumped him he lit out though the back yards and about every other one had a security light and we watched them run half way around that big ole lake by the light coming on and going off, finally caught in a drive way under an SUV good times.

Its an ice box, and we have a ford pickup thats a Florida edition but I think its a 2 wheel drive, not sure. But we try not to name anything a Florida anything not enough of us left that were born here to know what you are talking about. Except us natives and we would be Florida Crackers.
3  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: I need some SERIOUS convincing!!! on: March 10, 2011, 11:25:17 pm
Gave it up years ago moved to SW Florida from the middle of the state and had no where to go so I sold my dogs. But when my oldest son got about 12 he went looking back though all my old pics and telling me how he would like to hog hunt bought 2 pups from a friend and tried to find spots down there to go, didn't work as you know, found myself driving 2 hours every weekend to Sebring to hunt so I sold my house and moved. CRAZY I know but at least I have some place to run the dogs. My point at some point your 2 year old will be old enough to go and will want to. Dont give up yet.

No body in there right mind likes being up all night, getting scratched up and bit up, in the rain and cold or in the heat of summer. But that's what I love, guess I'm not quite right, guessin I'm not the only one. Its not for everyone but I have only had a few that didn't ask to go again.

My name is Cary Hitt, they are not allowing any hunts in the park now they shoot them and bury them, its a shame they are over run with them.
Florida curdog that's a good looking pup have one that looks just like him.

Ok new here but I will give my 2 cents, sounds like there are some guys on here that really know there dogs.
If  you have a dog that will try one through the pin and hes never been on one or been in the woods with finished dogs I would take him out of the pin and hobble  the hog and let him bay until hes tired of it, (Should be at least a half hour) even better if you know someone with a finished dog to put with him, but either  way  turn the hog out so the dog can get away far enough to regroup and go back after him. If he will not take to that than regroup and buy a pup from proven stock ( you have to do the training ) or buy a finished dog but expect to pay for it, you will not buy a finished dog for $200. I see to many new hunters get suckered into buying dogs that are throw aways, because they don't have the experience to know the difference. GOOD LUCK, and GOOD HUNTING.

New to the site love seeing people talk about the sport. You guys are right about the you tube and videos falling into the wrong hands PETA, we lost the right to have hog trials here in FL because of those videos years ago once the public gets involved we always lose people can not stand to see that thrown in there faces. I don't think we should hide anything I am proud of my dogs and the swine we catch but am very careful about who I brag to and where I post my pics and will not allow any video of my hunts from anyone I do not know very well. As far as the Hog wild show I did see it and Iam not sure how other people hunt but those people looked like a bunch of amateurs I hope that they were over acting for the cameras.

The Fl cur can be any number of colors but most are red or yellow most have a black muzzle, and a black mouth. They also can be bobbed tailed or full most oldtimers will tell you that it is preferable that they be bobbed.   They are equally at home working cows, catching hogs or trailing deer. Some of mine have been put into service as bear dogs, have been told they hold there own with there mt. curs and hounds.
But there are culls in any breed,  the pictures you provided are good looking pups but are not what we in Fl consider a Fl cur, but that means nothing goods dogs are were you find them.
