1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Deer and dog interaction. Opinions wanted. on: August 01, 2013, 01:54:46 pm
A lot of people around us don't understand how hunting pigs with dogs work either and there are some really smart ranchers that think we just go out turn these dogs loose and they go chase the pig or they think you just go in the brush walking with a bulldog see a pig and turn dog loose on him. When you tell them hey you ever go coon hunting when you were a kid and they say ya well then I say you spent a lot of time hunting for coons not cows not deer not skunks well it's the same way with us we hunt pigs not farm animals or deer! Usually they think about it a week or so and then give a call.

My thinking is them boys in South Texas run a lot of hogs and use dogs to gather cattle the same way they bay pigs and they seem to shoot the biggest and most deer

Ita also funny all the young guys iv helped get started and now I dont even hear from them or get invited to go hunt with them.its funnny how this old world works anymore.but I st

I see what your saying but the only way that could be enforced is if the hogs were in captivity which opens another can of worms in which if they were in captivity your holding pens would have to be inspected or if they got on the road and a car hit one they could sue you.

Feral hogs are not property after speaking with the government trapper and inspector for the animal health commission. On the other hand it is against the law to trespass and also against the law to shoot a hunting dog that is not posing a threat if they are treeing coons, baying hogs, hunting birds, etc that is not posing a threat doesn't matter where they are.

Game Warden here in Texas told me it's a fed offense to shoot a marked hunting dog ( one with obvious tracking collars on) and that was after he told the deer hunter that called him and said he was going to shoot my dogs if they came back across his lease.

12  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: the right price for the right dog.... on: May 18, 2013, 03:26:19 pm
take that 2k put it in the bank and get you a young dog and work it hard and you will be proud to say i started and finished that dog out. best part for me about hunting is to get to see something you worked hard on develop into a true working dog. and if you dont have time to do that your in to big of a rush
I agree to me you get more out of it when you train them yourself. But I do know people that are better off buying a dog cause they don't know how to train dogs and or don't have the patiance for pups
Agree with both here.

Hey Chris, I got a place up there i have been meaning to check out for a while now. Landowner says the hogs got his hay pastures ruined...
We were suppose to make a run Sunday but ol boy that owns it had something come up so we are gonna try next week. Suppose to have 4k acres. Guess I'll hang around Jonesboro and hit that ol river up. I'll keep you updated on it

Just wondering if the hog population is very good around there. May make a run over that way.
