I like a hound cur cross all my dogs are about 3\4 hound they hunt out a few hundred yard still check in longer you sit the further they go sometimes you will have to go to them . I can still pull a quick hunt with them if I pick them up after they check in the 1st or 2nd time. Alot hound these days I've seen aren't any better than a good cur but when you find a good hound they are hard to beat but you better bring plenty of beer you may be there a while and they sound so good grinding out a cold trail.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Suzuki Samurai vs Side by Side

I'm getting tired of putting bearing in my ranger thinking hard on the Samurai as I am convinced there is no such thing as a dependable Side by Side out there I paid $16000 for mine and I think I have probably spent another $2000 on it since 2015 it hasn't left me stranded but always seem like it needs something done to it 5000 miles on it now hell I'd be pissed if I had to change brakes and wheel bearings in a truck at 5000 miles I believe they engineer these things to fail to keep you shucking out money. Anyone use a Samurai? Will they go where a Ranger can and are they reliable I have never sat in one but they look about the same size.

When I started out I hunted alone and I always thought it would be nice to have some company. Then as I met new people that had dogs and got new leases to hunt I had all the company you would want. Went on a hunt last month there were so many spectators there me and my buddy had to walk away from the group to hear if the dogs were baying. I enjoy going by myself now and then you can pay attention to your dogs more. Nice Hog and dogs bud.

The first real good dog I owned was a dog named Copper a friend gave me as a put he was half Catahoula half English looked a lot like a mountain cur hard hunting always busy and honest not a super nose but good I bred him to 3 good gyps a Red tick a Doebelly and a gyp latter pulled dna on was English BMC Greyhound mix . Me and my brother have 4 dogs that all go back to the male they all hunt about the same 500-600 yard loops usually further on the first cast and they will get deeper longer you stay all quiet till ones jumped then open but not like a full hound. They don't have super noses I think they can can take a few hour old track and do OK with it they work good where I hunt smaller dogs some black and tan some brindle I may eventually throw a full hound in the mix they hut best in pair's or maybe they have gotten used to hunting that way I don't get to hunt a lot so I try to carry them all when I go .
