Monty its good to see that you are still wearing the hogs out. I always like catching up on your threads.
3  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: our right on: December 11, 2012, 11:36:17 pm
Don't they gain weight once they've been cut?  I know a lot of competitions pick a winner based off the weight of boar. I could be wrong, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Id have to say they gain more fat but I couldnt say that a barr gets heavier at a faster rate than a boar. Seems about the same to me.
Ive seen some fat.....fat barrs caught that were eating out of protein feeders but I have seen more fat...fat boars caught doing the same.

4  HOG & DOGS / HOG HUNTING CONTESTS / Re: Barrs on: December 11, 2012, 10:51:56 pm
Much appreciated even if not deserved Chance. Work has kept my internet hog hunting in hiatus but I still think about it and have a peek at the board from time to time. I expected to see folks still threatening to track down and whip hell out of the infamous dog trader Caude Ard but discrimination of  a wise ole barr hogs gets me rialled.  Grin
I would tell you a story or two about some legendary barr hogs thats give me and my dogs the slip many a time but I would have to tell you the story about a hog hunter with better dogs that ended up catching them! lol. Livestock my arse! They make up in in brains what they may ( or may not ) lack in fight!  But thats just my humble opinion.

How do I change my name to BarrNinja Mike?

5  HOG & DOGS / HOG HUNTING CONTESTS / Re: Barrs on: December 11, 2012, 10:10:00 pm
I say let em weigh in barrs! I have a feeling the only folks complaining about barr hogs at these contest are the ones that aint catching them.  Wink

The best hog hunters Ive ever known barr hogs and they do it for good reason! Good eating! That simple. The odd thing is that they don't have hog problems either. Lots of days they have to ride far and wide to pick up a track in their country. Go figure.
jhy.......THANKS!!!! Really! Your opinion gave me one of the best belly laughs Ive had in a long time! Keep em coming buddy!
Fatboy......... If you are serving boar hog at your hog roast please let me know. I will pack a sack lunch!  Wink

Long before hunting hogs was such a noble cause, hog hunters barred hogs for better table fare and to get the most out of their efforts. I suspect the practice will be around longer than hog hunting contest and pro wrestling.

Paul T. I couldnt agree with you more that barring hogs is a regional practice. You folks that aint in a position to barr your hogs need to get a handle on your hog population. I have a feeling its getting out of hand!  Grin

Put me in the magnum club. Its hard to be those slow moving, pile driving magnum pistol rounds out of a repeating carbine rifle. 357 and 44 mag are my favorite.
7  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Three legged dogs for hunting!?! on: March 27, 2012, 08:32:25 pm
A dog man once said, "I rather feed a good 3 legged dog than sorry 4 legged one". I had to agree.

What was the vets take on amputation?

Just the mention of ninja and he would be all over that. But he hit below the belt Grin It is funny when I try to work with him because he is so small. But he might just be able to get you down. He just would not know what to do then Grin

Haha! If he hits below the belt then he will be able to get me down!  Cheesy
10  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Why does everything turn into an arguement???? on: March 25, 2012, 09:16:49 pm
How come every dern thread on here gets turned into a big a$$ fight and ends up getting closed? I understand everyone has their opinion and likes to push it onto people, but why? If your reading a thread and think the person is an idiot that wrote it, then why are you commenting??? Instead people post dumb things and get everyone all riled up!!! One guy catches a pig and calls it 300 lbs, another calls him dumb and says its 250. One guy says he has big black mouths, another calls him a liar and says there is bulldog in the mix!! Does it really matter?? I like to read up and learn new things that I haven't thought of, but when something just starts getting good someone posts their opinion (when they know it'll start a fire) just to stir the pot... GET OUT AND HUNT IF YOUR THAT BORED!!! Ok I have just been wondering this for a long time... Lets all just get along and stick, or tie some dang hogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I think there is a lot to be learned through good debate and even what you may call argument. If you like to read and learn as you say then shut up and read when the BS starts. LOL. Thats what I do most of the time.
I dont ever say much in rebuttle unless it is just plain bad advice( yes you get bad advice here sometimes) however; calling BS and having a good debate is healthy from time to time.
Ive had folks call BS on some things I have said. It turned in to a good debate and I didnt let it hurt my feelings. After all, us hog hunters are supposed to be a bunch of tough guys right?
As for BS weights on hogs? I was bad about guessing the weights when I was younger. A 300 pound hog looked 500 to me after I caught and tied it! A scale and other hog hunters telling me I was full of crape checked me up real quick and I was thankful for it in the long run.
I say lets all get along but dont be afraid to call BS if it sounds like Im trying to send some BS your way.
OK I will shut up now and go find a happy place for the rest of the night.  Cheesy

15  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Our new ride! on: March 04, 2012, 08:29:46 pm
Hah! Well Im glad yall are already putting some miles on the ole boy. You wont break any spead records on him but he is a good ride and loves to go on a hog hunt! Im not sure if Robin can spoil him more than he already is though. lol
When that buffalo hair falls off him he is pretty flashy!

If it is from Boar Ninja it most be the worst mule ever just a cull. He will tell you himself that he only has culls. Now for those that don't know I only have culls too. Grin

Hey dub the cull is still at my house waiying for you!

One ole maverick boar in a whole mountain range or herds of hogs on a prarrie stacked up like the buffalo use too, Id use the same East Texas bred cur dogs I do now to hunt any place in this world.
