1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Tips to break dogs from fighting on: February 08, 2011, 05:32:35 pm
It's up to you....  Most people believe in some way or another, that they need to "be the boss" around their dogs.  I'm that way to a degree.  My dogs know who the head honcho is, and they know they'd better quit what they're doing when I say so.  But, if the dog is as aggressive as you say, your options will be much more limited than most people would think.  A hot shot will just make the dogfight worse.  I've seen it in action, and it didn't work worth a flip.  The 2 dogs fighting thought the other dog was hurting them, and didn't have any clue there was a hotshot involved.

Neuter your dog, or sell him to someone else who might be able to use him in their unique situation.  I have a patterdale/jrt cross that is as dog aggressive as they get & he won't change.  He'll fight until I break it up.  I accept it and use him only in certain situations.  I hunted him one night with a nose stapled up, because he split his nose completely in half during a dogfight in the box that night.  He found and nailed a hog that night with 3 staples in the end of his nose.  If I put him back in the same situation with the other dog, he'll fight again today.  Just the way it is, and I accept it.  He's a pain in the rear end, but he belongs to my son and he does a good job for me.

I sure get a lot of funny looks carrying a 12 lb dog in one side of my box and 3 60 lb catahoulas in the other side though.....
2  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: HOGZILLA CAUGHT IN OKLAHOMA on: August 13, 2010, 03:21:05 pm
I've seen a lot of dead hogs, and this is easily the biggest I've ever seen.  I went and saw him when I got off work that morning.  The pictures don't do that hog justice.  I tried several different ways to get pictures on my cellphone that would show how big the hog actually is & you just can't tell it from the pictures.  He's really that big.  He's fat too, when I first saw him I thought he must've been a barr because he was so fat.  His feet are 3" across, and they look abnormally small in proportion to his body.  He must've been leaving a heckuva divot in the ground when he walked through that corn.  His feet don't look big enough to carry that big ol' body.  He's thick and round all the way around that big ol' body.

I'm the world's biggest skeptic of weights on hogs, but when you see this hog in person it's not hard to believe what he weighed.  He's freakin' huge.  Up until yesterday, the biggest hog I'd ever seen weighed was 342 lbs.  This one is easily bigger.  He's a once in a lifetime hog.

Nice calf!  Jiminy.... shoot me a pm with his dob, approximate weight, and price please.  I think he might be a fuzz big for us, but as good as he looks it might be worth the risk.  Send me your number as well.

Those folks over there know their stuff & usually there are several who are a sucker for a good deal.  I hope it works out well for you.
15  THE CLASSIFIEDS / CLASSIFIED ADS / Re: High Quality Club Calf Embryos and Semen on: December 12, 2009, 04:16:58 pm
$75 for quality embryos is way cheap.  I think we gave $500 each for the ones we implanted a few weeks ago.  This should be a no-brainer for somebody.

You oughta try to sell these on the steerplanet website.  might have better luck.
16  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Porcupine! on: November 28, 2009, 11:20:19 pm
I'm sure glad we don't have those in Oklahoma!

Huh???  You mean you don't have them where you hunt in Oklahoma.  We caught 4 in one night one time.  We've caught so many freakin' porcupines that it's hard to believe our dogs will still hit them, but they will...... every single time. Angry
17  GENERAL CATEGORY / HUNTING AND FISHING / Re: oklahoma state record on: November 24, 2009, 10:20:15 pm
Bray, I saw a report about this on the news.  If you watch the newscast closely, it appears as if they broke off the right main beam sometime during the process of the weigh-in.  In one of the shots, you can see about 4" of main beam on his right side, and a guy is holding the rest of the antler & it's nowhere near the deer.  This will never be a record, sadly....... the jerks broke his horns. Shocked
18  GENERAL CATEGORY / HUNTING AND FISHING / what'll he score? on: November 24, 2009, 10:15:18 pm
This oughta be fun.  I haven't had this buck scored yet.  I shot him Sunday morning.  I'll have him officially scored and let's see who can get the closest.....
