HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Striking and Winding Ability...

awesome reading. I always enjoy the post that Reuben post. It's been a while since I've been on here or even hunted, but come 1/31/24 I'll be officially retired.
Drifting it is fun to watch to me. Me too T-dog. The best I had was my Bubby female. She ran a fast track with head running shoulder high. I have lost that. I guess I went too much hound with the crosses I made. Maybe the heavy jug bred dog put a little too much hound in my leopard curs.
Bubby would run tracks faster than anything I had. Ramrod her half brother was more nose to the ground hound style dog. I made that cross and got Handsome Jack from it, but the cross went more towards the hound style dogs. Now I had luck with it, but still the high head drifting was kinda lost. Got more tree power but a little slower on track. See Bubby was different. colder nose, fast track, windy, but a pretty quiet mouth. Ramrod was hotter nose, head to the ground, heavy mouth and hard on the tree. Bubby would set off the tree and under the coon. Ramrod looked up... Bubby was so much different. very laid back, looked to really please and you knew she was looking back when you looked at her in the eyes. She really wanted to please.
She was the only one to open up going down the road. Could be on a creek, draw or a bottom. I guess just to say " dad let me out, there's been a coon here" LOL. but she was the only one to do it. She ran track different too. Head high and fast while Ramrod and jack just put the nose down like a hound. It's as if she knew that was a waist of time. She always beat them to the tree.
See to me it's not only a warm or cold nose but how much the game or hunt excites them. Bubby always looked forward to hunting. She knew what to do so I guess she was excited and so it didn't take much of a since to fire her up.
I really enjoy the reading. Now to rad some more and catch up. Maybe I'll find another good leopard cur that runs shoulder high on track that I can cross on. I still have my jack dog. He's a little over 9 now. I've a little blue leopard female that I plan on starting after deer season. we'll see how she runs track. Seems to be pretty smart. kinda of a through back pup too. Shorter ears and a pointier nose.
thanks

THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / Looking for small framed Cat pup
|
on: April 12, 2021, 09:40:20 pm

I have a friend looking for the smaller frame cat or even a cat cross. He'd like to have something ( male or female ) under 10 or 12 weeks old. He prefers a spotted pup with short hair and would like it to stay under 20 to 25 lbs. when fully grown. My leopards curs are just too big and hairy for him. You can shoot me a text at 254-631-9883 or email me at mike.rogers1967@yahoo.com and I'll pass your info on and he can call you direct. He's in no super rush so if someone's about to make a cross then that would work too. He's up North in Illinois so he'll be making shipping or picking up arrangements, but I do know he'll be down around Beaumont Tx in June or so. thanks for all the help Mike Rogers

I purchased a pair of mens FIRE HOSE BRIAR PANTS from Duluth trading company. I'm really pleased with the fit and wear. They were pricey at $50 bucks or so, but I wear them a lot.

great reading here.
I've made several crosses like your wanting or asking to do and tighter. Just make sure they are what you want ( hunt'n style, drive etc..) Your going to have better luck when breeding good hunt'n dogs together whether it's line breeding, inbreeding or outcrossing one in. The cross will work fine for you. Hopefully you'll produce like dogs. You may have a throw back or two out of the litter, but it should tighten up your line. Remember this will bring out the good traits that your looking for and enhance them, but if you have any bad traits that you dont like it could enhance them too. Good luck and keep us posted...
again goooood reading

If you would like a pup to take and train then I can hook you up with one. I've got an American leopard cur male pup 15 weeks old. He's black and tan in color. He'll have a chop mouth. You can run anything you want with him. He'll be free all I ask is that you hunt him hard and keep me posted.

I like it.... Mine is just a 4x4 box inside a old goat shed set on concrete. 28" tall with a square cut door opening in front. No side door, but I really like the side door thinking. I had a 6" lip on the bottom of the door to hold the pups in. I ended up putting a ramp on the outside because when the pups got to 4 weeks old they began to climb out. The ramp just made it easier for them to go back in box. I used a regular heat lamp with a 60 watt light bulb and it made it plenty warm. I also just hung a little fabric over the door to help hold in the heat.
again good job. Looks great.
