HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Coyote cross

Just wanted to touch on the cross I had a coy dog bmc cross back in the mid 90s she was one of the best dogs I've ever owned.A friend had bought an old trailer in the country and said he seen a coyote run out from under it didn't give it much thought but the second time he went to fix the hole and discovered 2 pups. He took them home only one survived and it was an accidental breeding to his sons cur dog I took a pup and from the time she was old enough to hit the woods she hunted.Back then it was bay and shoot for me if I made a bad shot she would chase them down and catch with my other dog which was my first hog dog and was a hybrid wolf and ridgeback cross very hard to handle dog needless to say but thru the years the coy dog cross lead my pack never any aggression to humans or other dogs much less livestock so all in all I think the cross worked being 1/4 coyote but might have been a tough handle at half like T- bob said may have been to skittish and been a pestering type dog.

I'm no expert by any means there are a lot of houndsman on here that might know but they are separate breeds. They say all hounds come from the English dogs except for plotts. The English dogs I hunted behind were powerful treeing dogs and blueticks seem to be more trailing dogs from what I've seen. This in no way saying they aren't good tree dogs but they trail very well.Mr Whitten might be able to give you more insight he's an old houndsman.I do know in the 40s ukc recognized the blueticks as their own breed.

Just a heads up you do need a migratory bird stamp for dove duck etc. it's 7 bucks and you can harvest mourning, white wing and white tipped dove just no more than 2 white tipped in a daily bag limit.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Record book hogs
|
on: April 03, 2014, 09:28:16 pm

Just wanted to say I've seen some real nice hogs posted this year lots of big cutters why are these not being scored for the books.Cody Weiser developed a great scoring system for us to show our trophies folks like sandbank slayer cutnshoot younghogdogger those hogs could have made the books in the tusk division.I myself caught a nice one with 11 1/8 in off teeth in a tournament with some good friends this year but missed my 48hr window for having it scored which that won't happen again because I can score now but there's a list of official scorers on wildboarusa website so let's put some on the books there's a weight and tusk division with a minimum of 400 points to make the books. So come guys and gals lets put some records in the books.

Back in the day we bathed them with peroxide and bakin soda mix and poured it right on dont get them wet u can add some dawn to it and it does fizz when mixed and rub it in and let it sit and do it over and over especially if its real strong but it will help the gear but better to just wash it and air it out.

Well ive had 2 curs years ago that suffered tendon damage and that was the only option now i have one i got from ryantbh he had his back leg amputated last year hes doing great still rough as a cobb but hangs with the strike dogs and will hunt out 750 by himself with no worries it will take time to learn balance but they snap back pretty quick.Give it a couple months should be back at by the time it cools off.
