HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: ? For military vets

I kept my blues, my service uniforms, and 2 pairs of desert bdu's, 3 pairs of woodland bdu's. I sold several sets of both bdu's at the army navy store. I kept my boots, and my mother framed my ribbons. I have my flak, kevlar, 582 gear, and assorted molle items I'm saving for when the fit hits the shan.

I haven't had good luck with happy jack. I have had pretty good luck with water mixed with dawn soap or salt sprinkled out too. I recently bought some guineas because I heard they eat fleas, ticks, ants, and various other yard pests, but I haven't turned them out yet, so I can't speak on them really. I also alternate bayer, and permetherin on the dogs themselves.

Noah, I cannot speak for ASTAN, but fighting the insurgents in IRQ is just like Charles said, it is guerilla warfare. The enemy is not readily recognizable. The man you bought a hajji movie from in the market at 1500 may very well take some pot shots at you at 1900. They don't think the same way we do. The kids that come looking for candy, or pepsi money are sometimes looking to distract you, or will go tell their uncles and brothers what youre doing.
Charles, I agree with you on the smell. I don't hate anyone for their skin color, but even the hajjis that live here have that same "ass, feet, goat and curry" smell seeping out of their pores. I can't go in one of their gas stations even if I wanted to (which I don't) because of the smell. I have forgotten a lot of things, but I will never forget that smell.

I agree with you, Im curious though why exclude bull breeds from schutzund training. Why does using bull breeds "take it to a whole new level?""
I can't speak for Charles.... but for me, I never said to exclude them (bullbreeds) from sprot work and if I ever do it again my dog of choice will be a bullbreed no doubt. As far as another level...that could go pages deep that I don't really feel like going into....short list tho, they think alittle differnt than your traditional furries, they train different and it takes a different trainer to train one "good" and obviously liabillity....if your GSD bites anyone...it won't likely make the news....bullbreed bites someone justified however so minor it becomes "Pitbull attack" in the media.... (no matter how well trained and on the flip the training could back fire on you as well in a bite situation with a bullbreed) excellent clarification. thank you

I read somewhere about using a 1/2 and 1/2 solution of bleach and water to clean out wounds with. I've used it on one dog that got a couple of shoulder cuts a couple of weeks ago, and the wound is closed and just about completely healed now. I've used it on myself several times too and it works like a champ.
I also use sugar for bloodstop. Tampons work great too, I've never used them on dogs, but we kept them while on patrol and they are jam up for bullet wounds.
I learned to treat sucking wounds while in the corps, ziploc bags are priceless for this.
Ya'll may not like it, but there have been times when rubbing some dirt on it will do in a pinch to stop the blood, on you or your dogs.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Dog set ups for the bed of trucks.....

get a sheet of plywood to fit the floor of your bed and some short pieces of chain with swivel clips and some fence staples. Nail the lengths of chain down with the staples and brad the ends over underneath. Space them apart to where when you lay them down on the board, the clips are around an inch apart. You can carry 9 dogs like this where they can't jump out, lay over the side, or fight.
Sounds like a damn good idea! On a full size truck, you can get three setups down each side, and three in the middle. The dogs hold the plywood down, and gives them better grip than just the truck bed.
