1  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Breeding my own version of the Bullarab. on: January 23, 2013, 10:39:54 am
I think you all are right, plus I would probably lose the build that I want them to have with the hound in the mix!.
2  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Breeding my own version of the Bullarab. on: January 22, 2013, 11:18:56 pm
Good point, but they would be only 1/4 Elhew Pointer. I think Plott's have good traits that would be an asset and would give the final result a better nose, and they would still be silent!.
3  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Breeding my own version of the Bullarab. on: January 22, 2013, 09:39:35 pm
I am thinking about breeding my Stag/Game bred Pit male to a Bird/Bull of my own breeding, not done yet. I think that the Aussie's had the right Idea, but they should have used game bred pit's and Stag's instead of Bull terriers and Greyhounds. I am also considering adding some Plott blood into the mix, maybe the Stag/Pit to a Plott, then to the Bird/Bull, What do you all think?.

6  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Are there any Hogs in the El Paso TX area? on: January 20, 2013, 08:47:15 pm
HI hogdoggers,
I joined this forum just over a year ago, and shortly afterwards ended up moving for a short time to NM, then to the north west where there are no hogs!. I thought my hog hunting days were over before I even got started!. Anyway, I have moved to a ranch about fifty miles from El Paso TX with a open invitation to stay as long as I want. I still have my Cottingham bred Pit's, and a well bred Stag female that is a proven coyote hunter, and my pick of the litter male pup out of a good Stag male, that I bred my Cottingham Gyp to, he is six months old 25 inches and I would say around 80 lbs. I plan on breeding my male Pit to my Stag Gyp again, I lost the last pups out of them. Anyway, I am happy to be in the south again, and am looking forward to hog hunting!.

Thank's Texas Lacy, and Hoghunter 71409, you did push my buttons a little, and I appologize for coming off the way I did. I am getting tired of people saying, you can go to the pound and get all the free dogs you want, the last I heard it was $70.00 to adopt a dog from the pound, and they are fixed before you can adopt them!. And more than likely, theye are someone else's culls!. I am going to be in it for the duration!!! I have learned alot about breeding dogs from having game bred Pits for the last thirty years, and I have made a few mistakes in the process, and that is what I am trying to avoid!. I love all dogs, but Pits will always have a special place in my heart, whenever I look at another breed, I say to myself if it was crossed with a Pit it would be a better dog. I plan on breeding my Pits to Scottish Deerhounds, my minds made up on that!. I like Plotts better than any of the other hounds, or curs, I would love to breed 50/50 Plott/Pits for my other dogs, and cull! cull! cull!, I still might, its just that I keep reading on this forum that they would be to rough. Its kind of depressing, that is why I keep throwing out these other crosses and asking about them.

Im curious about a Karelian/Mtn Cur cross, it could turn out real good.
13  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Ridgeback breeding combinations/ their uses on: March 04, 2012, 10:46:03 am
I wonder what a half Ridgeback, half Bird/Bull would turn out like? I bet you would get some real good ones out of that cross!.
14  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Has anyone tried Karelian Bear Dogs on hogs in the U.S. on: March 04, 2012, 10:07:06 am

16  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Has anyone tried Karelian Bear Dogs on hogs in the U.S. on: March 04, 2012, 09:32:30 am
I am was just curious about it, from what I have read about them they are silent on trail and bring the game back toward you, instead of away from you, and my question was about hog hunting, not bear hunting, its pretty well known that Plotts are the one to have for bear hunting. As far as your coment on free dog is concerned, to each his own! some are breeders at heart, and take pride in the dogs that they produce, and others could care less, its just the hunt that matters to them, its obvious your the latter, more power to Ya! but dont knock others because they dont feel the same as you. I am one of those guys thats always trying to figure out a way to build a better mouse trap, you might think that Im a fool,
so be it, but without guys like me, there would be no pure bred dogs today.
17  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Has anyone tried Karelian Bear Dogs on hogs in the U.S. on: March 03, 2012, 10:50:55 pm
I have known about the breed for a while now, It just never accured to me that they could be used on hogs, intell I was thinking about what Plotts were bred for, so I looked them up on the internet, and lo and behold, they have been used on hogs in Finland and Russia!. They are a black and white spitz breed from Finland, that is suposed to be a real tough dog, that they hunt Bear, Moose, and Wild Boar with there. I met one once in Missoula Montana a few years ago, they are impressive dogs.
18  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Bird/Bulls, how good are they. on: March 03, 2012, 08:09:20 pm
Hey Smarlowe,

19  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: $1000 black mouth cur pups, who buys these dogs on here?? on: March 03, 2012, 04:17:25 pm
Let me start by saying $1000.00 is to much for any pup, but if your not willing to pay a fair price for a reg. pup, there are plenty of cross breeds out there, that are available that are probably better dogs than the pure breds! why do you think so many people are doing it, because none! of the breeds being used  today were originally developed to hunt hogs with. Maybe some feed their dogs a scoop of Ol Roy once a week whether they need it or not,LOL, but to my knowledge it cost money to feed a yard of dogs!, if you think that breeders are raking in the dough, your wrong.
20  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: $1000 black mouth cur pups, who buys these dogs on here?? on: March 03, 2012, 10:15:40 am
I almost did a few months ago, it's a good thing that I didnt get paid when I was suposed to, and a fellow Hog Dogger on this forum warned me about him . Let me say, that the only reason that I was considering it, is because he advertised that his pups are garenteed to work or he will replace them, and when you consider all the time and money invested in a pup and If  they turn out to be cull's, it would be worth it!. I should have known better, even the best bred litters seldom produce litters without culls in any!! working breed, and if it's a cull, why would you want it back? to sell to someone else. Now having said that, let me say that I believe that $500.00 is a fair price to pay for a pup when the breeder has spent years working hard to produce a yard of good dogs, and if you do get a good one, you have a dog worth far more than that! anymore and your just in it for the money!!!
