Anybody that lives in this area knows about that spot so no big secret to give away. But I was told recently by two different permit holders that they had a new guy in charge at the Ranger station and he cut dogging out period. Traps only is what I was told and I also heard that the Game wardens are keeping a close eye on the river for people hunting illegal.
Yup, and it's the whole river, not just the corps land that Seth is talking about. Sad thing is that whole country is ate up with hogs and nobody who matters cares. The dang govt owns pert near all of the good land over there due to flooding and they don't care to share it with dog hunters. Either get legal, or get sneaky. Sneaky is easier, legal is cheaper. Good deal Seth, glad y'all been tearing it up over there! It's a awesome pup starter and a great refresher course for dogs of all ages! Y'all keep at it and stay safe man. thanks bud , im gonna try like hell to get a permit i really enjoy that place ! plus its good for my dogs since they're some C - TEAMERS ! lol

permit yes , waiting period maybe couple of weeks . they only allow hunting before and after duck season and only on certain weekends . you have to call or go down to the permit office and fill out paperwork to be elligable for permit . lady i talked to on the phone said its not that tough to get one . man its so worth it ! i just started doggin and ill be the first to tell you that my dogs arent all that and we caught hogs every trip down there, its crazy ! couple of weeks ago when it was raining and nasty we headed down there with a buddy of mine that has some good dogs and we caught ten good size hogs in five hours ! that place is unbelievable ! great place to start some young dogs for sure ! i applied for a permit , ill keep you posted on the turn out .

went monday morning with a buddy of mine to the trinity river right outside of baytown to run the dogs on the US ARMY CORPS OF ENG land . we've hunted there about ten times and man o man that is a honey hole ! its only accessible by boat and when you hit the bank and cut the dogs loose dont open a beer cause you wont be able to finish it before they have one bayed or caught ! anyway, long story short ......... i had no clue that you couldnt hunt hogs down there during duck season and after a long chat with the game warden and $125 later i now know the do's and donts of the trinity river corps property ! missed it by one week ! atleast he was nice enough to let us keep the five hogs we had already caught . lol

Levi, you understand then when I question how "athletic" a catch dog should be? I would rather a CD miss a catch than carry on with the cur dogs or hunt by hisself and get killed.... I don't know... still a cloudy subject.
dogo24, I damn sure got the female. What you got for a male?
my male is coming up on 2 years old , got him from joe levenridge at US HOG OUTFITTERS . hes about 93 lbs of solid muscle , he would prob weigh more but i run him on the ground with the curs . really an awesome dog and will be a great catch dog with more time and experience ! for his size hes really fast and agile , ive lead him in before and does really great but i perfer him on the ground because the dogs we run are rough . he has a tendency to catch on the head sometimes but i think its because there are already dogs on the ears ? idk you can tell when ole jasper gets there , that hog changes his tone ! lol

Yes, I've talked to Mr Mason alot about the Dogo x Cur, no doubt that was the direction I have been working towards... just was trying to make a male Dogo to female cur cross to be safe...
well if you ever decide on a cross , let me know , im wanting a good female from a good line to breed to my dogo later on down the road !

Flogos.... has a "ring" to it I must admit!!! Yes, I would do that(was planning on doing it with my female I've been raising for the last goddam yr...), BUT.... I wouldn't do a breeding like that unless I was prepared to pay for a cesarean... which I HAVE actually been considering lol dogo24... I would REALLY like to believe you.... ... I'd breed Bucho to Shiner and it would be a done deal go to douglas mason's website ......" masons catahoulas" ....... there are some pics of his catdos ! really awesome dogs with great stamina and hard catching power !
