HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Hunting Books
|
on: February 27, 2019, 08:46:29 am
|
I am working on a seminar paper having to do with right of retrieval throughout the states, and I need a book to illustrate the legal issue. So, do any of y'all know any books that bring up right of retrieval or more likely trespassing. Preferably with hog dogs, but I doubt there is much literature on the subject at all. Other things that might work would be: Trespassing to retrieve wounded animal; cows or horses getting out and on another's land. Thanks in advance.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Feed
|
on: January 30, 2019, 02:22:52 pm

Why feed Showtime--from someone who feeds it and sells it.
What I have started saying about Showtime is that it does all the little things right--unlike any other dog food. What do I mean by this? Well here are the reasons (in no particular order):
1. Every dog will eat it, even picky dogs (well probably not EVERY dog, but our feed store hasn't had a single customer complain of their dog not eating it) 2. You can feed less, even half as much as other popular dog foods (this stuff keeps a dog very well) 3. Hard stool, easy for cleaning kennels (The first time I switched, I did so without mixing previous dog food--no diarrhea. Also, when you cut your dogs loose, they poop once and aren't stopping every 30 yards to try and poop some more) 4. Price, we are in Texas and get Showtime shipped from Georgia, and it's still a lot cheaper than any other popular dog foods. 5. Results, this goes to performance whether hot or cold, and everything else listed here (This dog food is made buy field trial dogmen with results in mind. Nobody pushes dogs harder than those men, and that's all most of them feed.)
Other info/reasons: Showtime was designed by the same nutritionist that designed Black Gold. I never fed Black Gold, but ones who did seemed to love it--it tends to bring up a sense of nostalgia. The bag is easy to open--yes there is some value in this--just pull the string. I always hated having to tear into other dog food bags. A big reason to buy Showtime is because they support dogmen like us and our way of hunting. As most of y'all probably know, Showtime sponsors Uncle Earl's and the East Texas Hog Baying Championships. They also sponsor many individual dogmen and many of the field trials.
Results, results, results: For example, you would not believe how many customers, men and women who don't know anything about a dog, who we have had switch to Showtime that would come back to the store after only feeding one bag and see a difference in their yard monkey--weight, hair, energy, etc. On the other end of the spectrum, there are people like Mike who are dogmen and have been feeding the same dog food for years that try Showtime, see the results, and stick with Showtime. I find both of these examples impressive.
Another great example: Like I said, Showtime sponsors a lot of field trials. At one Showtime took 10 bags of dog food, and another dog food company took 15 bags. The trial placed the first 20, and allowed them to pick a bag of dog food for free. First through tenth place all picked the Showtime--thus, no more Showtime. Here's the crazy part--three of the next 10 placed wouldn't even take a bag of the other dog food! I can't imagine with as many dogs as most field trial people have not taking a free bag of dog food.
Lastly: If you are in Texas, I know you may not be able to get your hands on Showtime, and, like many, you are fine with what you are feeding. However, when you put together feeding less, less expensive, and results, you can't beat Showtime. So, how to get it? Give me a call, and you and your buddies tell your feed store you want it. My name is Wyatt Hinson and my number is (903)-434-2542. Call me with any questions, and tell your feed store to call me. We can fix them up!

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Valu-Pak Question
|
on: July 27, 2018, 12:17:09 pm

Recently heard a couple people complaining that valu-pak made their dogs not come in heat or breed. Anyone else experienced this or heard of such? Seems a little extreme to me. Thanks

I have fed diamond high energy for the last 5-6 years with no problems at all except the price, which is over $30 with tax. I have never fed sportmix (about same price as diamond), but I know there are people who love it and ones who hate it. Personally, from what I have heard, I lean toward the negative side. Can't afford victor if you have many dogs. Valu-pak is what it is--valu-pak (Victor=winner, diamond=valuable, showtime=ready to steal the show). Mine did alright on valu-pak for a few months then fell off hard! (I have seen valu-pak any where from $20-25.) Won't hold a working dog, people will learn this soon enough. I have recently switched to showtime, and it has been working great for me. Cost $25 plus tax for 24-20 in northeast Texas. Research shows that the field trial people and top bay pen guys feed showtime. I will never push a dog like the field trial people do and they feed showtime, so I expect to feed showtime from now on.

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Anyway to get a rough dog to back up?
|
on: January 10, 2015, 07:10:10 pm

Got a dog that hunts his heart out but is straight catch. No bulldog in him. He would be an awesome strike dog if he would ever back up. I'm assuming a suicidal dog will always be so. Words of wisdom appreciated. Thanks!

THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / 2 year old cur x cat
|

I raised this dog from a pup and wouldn't be selling him but he has bad male dog aggression. I have switched to hounds and he don't get along with them. He is used to being road hunted in front of a four wheeler so he isn't gonna hunt out much at all without another dog until you get him hogs. He moves a track faster than any of my dogs. Won't mess with deer, cows, horses, goats, or cats. If he barks it is a hog, and he has the hog stopped and is looking at it. Gonna catch with the bulldogs. When you put your hand on hog and yell get out, you won't see him again. He will roll out if there was a herd of hogs and if not he will back off 10-15 yards and wait for you to leave. He ain't gonna mess with a caught hog period. He has a great handle. $400 Mt. Pleasant, TX Call for more info. 903-434-2542 wyattthinson@gmail.comhttp://s1300.photobucket.com/user/WyattHinson/slideshow/

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Water Holding Pipe
|
on: May 29, 2014, 02:00:38 pm
|
I have seen pictures of people who had taken what looks like 4" PVC pipe and made it to hold water for dogs on hot hunts. I was wondering if anyone could post a picture or tell me how they put the spicket on one end of the capped pipe or what they used to let the water run out.
