By looks and sounds of it, he lived life and valued the important things and people. I’m sure sorry for yours and his family’s loss. Tuff loss with the dog too. I’m betting both of them are rooting for y’all to catch every hog around.

Yessir he lived life to the fullest even started a successful trapping business this year on top of a construction company his son was running so he honestly got to hunt/fish most every day Oh he’s definitely rooting for us to be successful in the woods, I had the honor of being left all his dogs, they’re the same blood as everything else I own, but the man that owned this line we both hunted (for the past 20+ years for me, David had been back in the game about 6/7 years after a 15 year break) some of the dogs behind these dogs went back to David’s grandfathers dogs so it’s a little bit more meaningful for him to have left them to me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Man we lost a one of the kind man that they really broke the mold with My hunting and dog yard partner that was more like a brother David Howard passed away 8/24/24 due to a heart attack at 50 years old out of state working I’d talked to David the evening before told him I was gonna go turn loose and he got excited wanting me to tell him all about it when I got back in little did I know that was my last chance to talk to him, and boy did we turn loose. Never caught a hog but Lucy put on a SHOW ran that hog giving it all she had put over 30 miles on her collar (about 10 just hunting hard before she jumped him out of bed) in 95 degrees and then I lost her the moment her collar hit the river had to give up and go home to meet a buddy for her truck antenna and found out almost the moment I walked through the door at the house his son had called me right after they got the news…I proceeded to go back to the woods to find the dog I got from my dear friend who was taken away too soon spent all day and half the night looking and went back first thing in the morning with no luck put a boat in and we found her down river a ways already gone best we can guess is she it the water too hot and went into shock never came back up until she went to go bay hogs with David, Lucy died doing exactly what David wanted when he put her sire and dam together World lost one heck of a dog man trapper, all around great hunter amazing father friend and man of God It’s been a ruff week but y’all keep the Howard family in your prayers David, Henry(his dad passed a yr ago this was his dads last hog) Lucy is up top, saucy is in my right hand (Lucy’s dam) and jr her litter mate in my left David and Hank (Lucy’s sire) David and his dad Lucy girl Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Figured this might be a decent topic see if some of us are closer together than we thought may be able to hunt together/make a cross or whatever the case may be
We’re over here by Lufkin TX middle of East Texas spitting distance from Louisiana(bout 1.5 hrs) 2 hrs N of Houston 3Hrs south of Dallas Most of the country over here is pine thickets/cutovers

We need real tight to a dog one time and had cur dogs with green/hazle eyes too tho instead of the traditional brown eyes you’d expect in a cur dog

It’s frustrating for sure. I think that’s exactly what was happening to us on our last trip. We were hunting at a Yaupon Tea factory. There was a brush mulcher going in one area, a tractor shredding in the bottom we were in, and people driving around. We couldn’t keep anything bayed for it getting broke before we could get there.

It’s definitely frustrating because the dogs are doing their job but things outta your control keep happening so you can’t do your part to seal the deal for them which is even worse this time of year with this heat Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Do y’all pay much attention to puppies outside of the obvious things like color, build, independence, etc.? Like the other day I scattered a hand full kibbles out on the ground and forced my 7 week old pups to find it on their own. There’s one female that I just seem to have a chemistry with. For sure she wouldn’t be my pick color wise, but everything about her is just spot on for me. She had found some kibble and it just so happened there were 2-3 pieces right there. Another pup came up and wanted to get some and she never growled or anything, but she leaned and shouldered that other pup and kept it away from her prize. That sounds simple, but to me it tells me she is a quick thinker on her feet. There was a whole lot of thought process in that split second. I smell food and here it is. There’s more than one here. No this mine, I found it. Go get your own. Physically using her body with leverage to hold off the advancement of her sibling. Getting that cleaned up and hurrying off to hustle for more. Those tools will absolutely be necessary for her make MY kind of hog dog. The drive to locate. The locating and taking care of business while still being aware of what else is happening around her. The mindset of ok this task is done let me get gone and hustle another. Which is what she needs to relay. I know this is simple but it sure is fun to me to watch it.

Yessir I like to hide kibble too or if I got old hot dogs feed them to them a couple days then do weenie drags That’s usually how I settle on which pups I want out of my litters then let my hunting buddies pick from there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have started using it a year or so ago with no ill effects and have only dosed 1 time. I dose the same as everyone else 1cc per 10# orally and did a little research and found it’s safe for pups 12 weeks of age. I’ve tested it and no ill effects. From what I’ve been able to read the active ingredient is the same as nearly every flea med you would get from the vet. I believe the difference is the dose we give when self medicating our dogs compared to the single dose the vet would sell you and again every month there after. I would be interested in seeing if anyone has had problems with there bitches cycling as I have not so far.
I’ve been using it for a 2-3 years now and mine come in like clock work every 6 months Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / 8/10/24 lil ol sow…

Man it was a rough morning Haakdt his ol lady(her first trip) Jason Oliver and myself turned loose this morning and dogs lit out We dumped Lucy yogi and CJ also had a yearling gyp off cj and Haak’s brindle gyp(2nd trip in the woods) and I brought 2 7 month old pups chip and dale(first trip) Was very pleased with all three of them they got out with the big dogs and hunted/followed them all morning But people were working at the lease this morning we didn’t know about and they kept breaking bays driving by real close on tractors/sxs finally got a sow lined out tho! Lucy and chip got down by the river about 700 yards from the buggy and jumped one cj was about 200 yards from her he joined her real quick (and they left chip in the dust) they ran him around and yogi joined them he actually pulled ahead about 100 yards and shut it down him and cj stretched it out but it shook loose and Haak sent dro and sealed the deal, Kate and dale both got there about the same time we did coming in on the track and joined the fun chip didn’t show back up till we were loading dogs back on the buggies (so no pictures of chip) Morning started out frustrating but dogs still managed to get it done despite the set backs! First bay was right beside the rd before it got broke dale and lucy yogi cj dale is an extremely calm dog was real surprised he wasn’t going nuts by the hog tho Kate Jason haakdt Haak and Oliver Haak and his ol lady And a few action shots Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah it’s to the point where it really doesn’t cool off much. Looks like you cut about half his body weight off, lol. Sounds like the dogs did a good job.
