I use sutures a lot. It is not that hard to stitch one up and makes a difference on deep cuts.
2  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Anybody Seen This on a Dog? on: August 27, 2012, 07:11:14 pm
It is a hotspot. I do not think anyone really knows what starts them.

Treat with antibiotics like Cephalexin and a steroid.

I'm glad someone else saw that deer footed calf. I rewound my DVR 5 times trying to see for sure that is was a dead deer.  Just could not believe they would say it was a dead calf and show a dead deer foot.

I must admit, I got a big crush on Lea. She makes the show.

Dogtra Yapper stoppers are good. Rechargeable which saves a lot of money and tough. I have some that are over 10 years old.

New one won't track DC30 or DC40.

If you hunt with others stay with a Astro 320 and DC40 collars.

If I hunted by myself I would buy the new system. It has got a lot of perks I would enjoy. If it tracked DC40 collars I would be ordering one.
6  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Skin Staplers on: July 29, 2012, 08:46:59 am
I actually have a small tackle box loaded with sutures, needle holders, and skin staplers. Well, it has a few more goodies in the box for really bad days.  I just had some extra staplers and was making sure no one needed a couple for their emergency box.

Just trying to help out as I get a lot of enjoyment and education from this forum. I got these staplers pretty cheap I think so PM me if you need some staplers.
7  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Skin Staplers on: July 28, 2012, 08:55:54 pm
Is there a need for skin staplers?  I have quite a few. They are opened, but clean and never used. I am sure they are 35W (wide).

I got some for a friend of mine and it was like giving him a piece of gold.
8  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: injecting ivomec vs. giving orally on: July 28, 2012, 04:18:55 pm
I hope my memory is correct, but I am pretty sure these numbers are correct.  When giving Ivomec subcutaneously it is about 75% effective against worms. If you give it by mouth it is close to 99% effective.

I squirt it on a piece of white bread and let the bread soak up the Ivomec like a sponge. Sometimes I pour some gravy on the bread for the picky eaters.

I give 3/4 ml per 50 pounds in order to get whipworms In addition to roundworms and hookworms. I also only use name brand Ivomec.

Make sure you use name brand ivermectin which is Ivomec.

If you are going to use the Panoramis then cheat and buy the largest size. Cut to the size you need if you have dogs less than 60 pounds. Saves a few dollars.
11  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Rice Bran and Baiting on: June 13, 2012, 08:11:52 am
I have about a ton of Rice Bran and was wondering if anyone had ever used it to bait hogs. I only get to hunt on Saturdays so I try to keep the hogs on my hunting land.

Thanks
Thomas
