HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Herd style hunting

Used to bunch up hogs with the cows when I was younger and drive them to the pens. Hogs has definitely changed though and it ain't too easy to do anymore. I agree with Rednose, a good cur will be better suited for the job but I am sure there are some good bulldogs out there that can do it

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: cow having seizures?

Sounds a bit like grass tetany to me. They get a magnesium deficiency from grazing fast growing forage like ryegrass. It will cause them to get jerky and act silly. It will usually kill them pretty quick if they don't get treated. The best prevention is a hi-magnesium free choice mineral.

I've switched to Montana Pitch Blend conditioner for my tack. Its a blend of mink oil and pine pitch. Their dressing has bees wax added for water resistance. Its good stuff

The lack of storage is my only complaint on the Pioneer. I have well over 2000 rough miles on it and its still as quiet as the day I brought it home.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Special packaged delivered

The mailman delivered this package sent from my cousin back home. 4 months old. He is the friendliest dude I've had in a while, hope he has some grit. The 1200 mile trip didn't bother him none.

THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / 1 year old dog, half FL cur x half cat

I've got a year old dog that's half Florida cur out of my blood and half Catahoula. I've taken him a couple times to gather cattle and he worked fine with the rest of my pack. I think he would do fine on hogs if given the opportunity. I've raised him from a pup and he is a super friendly dog. I've got to make room for a new puppy coming and I just can't get use to seeing this spotted dog in my pack. He is free to anyone willing to give him a fair chance. Located in Red River County near Paris TX. Call/text Roy Partin at 407-520-9798 or email at partinroy@yahoo.com

A cousin sent me that, said it was big news down there. It made me really proud and I'm so happy that he survived to pass on those brilliant genes. The word is he was keeping the snake in his house and I guess you need a permit for that.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Prayers please
|
on: April 05, 2015, 12:13:16 pm

I'm asking for prayers of peace for the Depriest family here in Red River County. On Friday 8 year old Cole Depriest had his horse flip and crush him. He died right there in his grandfather's arms. It's such a sad deal when a child passes.
