For allot of reasons. While I dont hunt for erradication I do hunt for population control and Row Crop protection. Erradication is simply not possible. That is the main reason why my dad got started and why we do it day in and day out and why we make hunts in bad weather or heat.
Other reasons are 1. to put food on the table. 2. I love to watch and hunt and work with Cur dogs. 3. I like the adventure aspect you never know what you will end up doing or seeing that day. 4. Good exercise for heath reasons. 5. When done the right way with good people it builds Character expecially in young people but also anybody...teamwork, responsibilty, self confidence, self reliance, pride, loyalty, how to deal with loss, perserverance, problem solving, I could go on and on. 6. Comradery....I have made lots of friends through hog hunting and strengthened relationships that I allready had. Nothing makes a hunt better than spending it with people who you enjoy the company of. 7. Conservation....Not always thought about but is expecially true when considering large populations of hogs...they can really damage the local ecosystem, eating quail and turkey eggs, competing with other wildlife for food, among other things. Keeping the population thinned is good the the native wildlife and the Farmers. 8. Culture......Every culture has the right to be preserved. I feel like hunting hogs with dogs is a cultural thing its been passed down to me from the previous generation and even the dogs I hunt with have been passed down from generation to generation.
Any one of those reasons is reason enough for me to hunt hogs but put them together well I guess thats why I like it so much.
